The Preliminary hearing for Judge Percy Reynolds...
who was charged for the second time in two years of a brutal murder began today..
Judge Keith Morrison, the father of our friend, Attorney Keith Jones was presiding over the hearing..
Olivia, Beverly, Nelson and Dabnis Coley were present for the defense..
Olivia's college friend, Assistant District Attorney Karen Page was prosecuting.... She said to us in the hallway...
"This may be the last case I'll be prosecuting Liv.." she said,.
''Why? Are you leaving the D.A.'s office?" asked Olivia..
"No...After this case I'll be in charge of the Wrongful Conviction Unit...I'll be overseeing cases of wrongful convictions...We may even work together on the same side for a change.." said Karen..
"I'd like that..."said Olivia..
"That would be so cool.." said Beverly..
"Yeah.."said Nelson..
"I hate it that I'm trying Percy....I clerked for him and I've tried a number of cases in his courtroom...I like the guy....The other thing I hate is that I have to work with HIM again..."
she said pointing to Lt. Tragg..
Beverly laughed..
"Oh yeah, your boyfriend.."laughed Olivia..
''Don't start!" said Karen sighing..
Dabnis looked at me...
"Are Liv and Bev always sooo friendly with the ADA?" he asked..
"Liv and ADA Page were in Law School together...They're old friends..." I said.
"I usually keep a distance from ADA's..." said Dabnis..
"It's good to have friends...Someone you can maybe proffer a deal with ,if need be." said Nelson..
Dabnis smiled... He respected Nelson's argument.. He had grown to really like the both of us over the past few days...
"Ahhhh point taken....I'm amazed that you all can stand to be around Rockland Cambridge..
.I understand you guys had several battles with him in court.." he said.
"He's not so bad....Things were intense in those early days...but after he started dating Beverly's mother...
and he got to know us...he's become a check in the friends column."I said..
"The power of the panties!" said Dabnis..
"You sound like my wife.."laughed Nelson..

"ALL RISE for the honorable Keith Morrison, Judge of the fifth circuit court" said the Bailiff..
He looked over at Olivia, Beverly, Nelson and Dabnis and Judge Percy Reynolds...A mentor and personal friend...
He liked Percy....He couldn't possibly believe that he had killed a man...
He looked at his younger by 25 years , beautiful and sexy wife, Patricia...also an Attorney and one time a Judge herself...It was known in the small legal community that she was fast and loose with her body and had stepped out on the judge a number of times...A beautiful woman like that could drive a man to kill....He could certainly sympathize.
He remembered a few years back Percy Reynolds had been accused of killing a man he had caught flirting and fondling Patricia...They had fought....but after a sensational trial ,it was discovered that another man had actually killed the man he had been fighting over her...
Now here he was , years later accused of killing yet another man...A man he and his wife were buying a house from..
Karen Page argued brilliantly that Judge Reynolds killed Herbert Jeffries out of a jealous rage when he discovered that his wife was sleeping with Mr. Jeffries..
Judge Reynolds laughed and slapped his knee....He thought this was preposterous..
Lt. Tragg smiled and leaned back....
Several Policemen, Forensic Specialists and people from the M.E.'s office and The Crime Scene Investigation testified...
Olivia, Beverly and Nelson didn't ask them a question...
Dabnis was surprised....
"You guys aren't going to question them?" he asked..
''What for? They are stating facts we already know..." said Beverly..
''Sit tight."said Olivia.
Dr. Hazel Baylor was up next....
She presented the crowbar which had fingerprints and DNA belonging to Judge Percy Reynolds on it..
On Cross Olivia asked her...
''Dr. Baylor, was there any additional fingerprints and DNA on that crowbar?"
"Yes there was, Jack McCandles...the previous owner of the house had his fingerprints and DNA on the crowbar too.." she said.."And it was more profound than Judge Reynolds..
Jack McCandles sat in the courtroom astounded...He slipped down in his chair..
Karen had did her homework...She called Patricia Reynolds to the stand..
She asked Patricia if she was having a sexual affair with Herbert Jeffries..
Patricia said" No...Absolutely not"
She showed the time stamped film footage of her going to the house at 1:35 pm and of her leaving at 5:57 pm..
"Took you nearly six hours to sign papers? Do you always drink wine with your realtors?"asked Karen..
"I object, Relevance?"said Olivia.
"She's badgering the witness." said Beverly...
"Move on counselor.."said the Judge.
Karen Produced Bed sheets with DNA and sweat from both Herbert Jeffries and Patricia Reynolds..
"I'll ask you again...Did you have a sexual relationship with Mr. Jeffries?"
"Yes....but just that one time...He agreed to knock $3000.00 off the asking price if he could have me just one time.." she said and began to cry.....
"If it was just that one time....Her husband clearly knew nothing about it and that destroys your motive right there.."said Beverly...
"Plus we can prove that he was not there at the time..."said Nelson...
''Everyone who has testified has testified that the murder occurred between 6:15 and 6:45.....Patricia Reynolds spoke to him on the phone as evidenced by her phone record, Defense exhibit one at 6:02 pm...She was on her way home...She turned and drove back.."said Olivia.
"Our client as proven by defense exhibits B, C, D, His Credit Card receipts was dining at Big Rigs Soul Food Joint near the Airport....Miles Away...From 4:00 pm- 7;00 pm when he left.."said Beverly..
Nelson and Dabnis called waiters, bartenders, servers and customers, one the judge gave an autograph to who stated he was in the restaurant from 4:30- 7:00....
"There is no way our client was in the area at the time of the murder...."said Olivia..
"Our client's fingerprints and DNA was the crowbar because he and Herb Jeffries were investigating a smell and a bulge in the wall of the second bathroom the day before as provided by these pictures."said Beverly.

"If Mrs. Reynolds did indeed have sexual relations with the deceased, Our client knew nothing of it..until just now."said Nelson...
The Jurors looked stunned...
Judge Reynolds looked stunned at the revelation....Then he thought..."She got $3000.oo knocked off of the asking price and I got $1000.00 knocked off the day before..That's $4000.00 dollars."
Patricia looked stunned...distraught.....

Dabnis called Jack McCandles..
Jack McCandles looked nervous.....
"Mr. McCandles….I understand when my client and Mr. Jeffries started pulling the wall apart in that bathroom , you got angry with them....You snatched the crowbar away didn't you?" he asked..
"Yes....I told them I wasn't going to be responsible for any additional work and to let The Judge and his wife deal with that after they were in the house...Herbert argued with me...When I returned...He had knocked part of the wall out....I was furious...I snatched the crowbar from them both."he said.
"There was a peculiar smell coming from that bathroom...and a bloating in the wall, that is what they were complaining about....Tell me..Did your wife complain about that smell when she was living with you?" asked Nelson..
"OBJECTION! RELEVANCE!" said Karen , who stared icily at Lt. Tragg...
He had given her another dud case..Another poorly investigated case...She decided not to go any further with this... A trial would be a waste of time and an un needed loss for her..
"Your honor, in lieu of the overwhelming evidence that clearly show that Judge Reynolds was not in the area at the time and could not have possibly have committed this murder.. The People move to drop all charges against this client.."said ADA Karen Page..
"So Noted...All Charges are dropped, Judge Reynolds...You are Free to Go!"said Judge Morrison with a broad smile.
"I had the best lawyers in the world...I had no doubt I'd be acquitted..."said Judge Reynolds..
"I'm so sorry you keep getting put in these situations.."said Olivia..
"Yeah, Me too!" said Beverly.
"Well you're home free now and you can go and enjoy your happy home.."said Nelson..
Dabnis looked at Lt. Tragg...
"I intend to sue the Philadelphia Police Department and you in particular for rush to judgement and Harrassment of this man.." he said..
"Good Luck with that pal!" said Lt. Tragg...
"The Best thing about this trial is I don't think I'll be embarrassed by your poorly prepared investigations anymore..I'm going to a new unit come Monday." said Karen Page icily to Lieutenant Tragg...
"Karen baby!" protested Lt. Tragg.
"Don't Karen Baby me!!!....And you put your hands on my legs again or try to run your hands up my skirt...I'm slapping your face.."said ADA Karen Page.

Gary Lockwood, Investigator with the District Attorney's Office
and a squad of Tactical Police entered the house..
Using the crowbar they pulled apart the wall in the small bathroom and made a grisly discovery..
wrapped in plastic.....The mummified remains of Jack McCandles wife, Joan McCandles… She had dropped out of sight five years ago....At long last the mystery was solved...My hunch had been right!
"Ooooooou the smell is maddening..."said Hazel..
"Good Pull Donnie Ray...This is why he killed Jeffries, to keep him from finding the body of his wife..He wanted to come back in here and remove the body himself before it would have been discovered."said Gary...
"I'm just glad we found it and got him before he managed to flee town with over a million dollars."I said..
Jack McCandles was handcuffed and taken down town....Charged with the murder of his wife five years before and Herbert Jeffries..He was convicted and sentenced to two life sentences without parole.
We watched as the body was wheeled out!
Outside the house...
''Wow, he committed one murder to cover up another.."said Olivia.
''Woww! Donnie Ray was on point again as usual."said Beverly.
"We didn't have time to bring that up during the preliminary hearing.."said Nelson..
"You Understand why I was going to block that kind of testimony..."said Karen..
"Yeah, but we would have found away around it had it of gone to trial.."said Dabnis..
"You were taking notes weren't you?" laughed Beverly..
Dabnis smiled lustfully at Beverly...
"I sure was.." he said.
"On The Law right?...Nothing Else?" said Beverly, who was quite aware that Dabnis had been checking out her sexy body the entire time he was talking.. The past few days his attention had swung from Josie and almost exclusively to her and sometimes her Aunt...
Olivia just looked at her niece and smiled, shaking her head...
EPILOUGE-
Dabnis Coley did sue the Philadelphia Police Department on Judge Percy Reynolds part on the charge of rush to judgement in two arrests...
Lt. Tragg argued in his defense that due to Mrs. Reynold's known sexual history and the Judges temper and obsession with her ,it was only natural to suspect that he may have killed in a jealous rage..
The City decided to pay The Reynolds an unnamed sum to make the law suit go away...They did and Lt. Tragg was put on Administrative leave indefinitely...The City wanted no more immediate screw ups..Lt. Tragg was furious... He asked his underlings to get him the book on Attorney Dabnis Coley...He was going to see to it that he was paid in full one day for what he had done to him..
TWO WEEKS LATER-
We found a quiet , small bar on the other side of town to celebrate...
"Well Josie, congratulations...You passed the Bar with flying Colors..."said Olivia, hugging her..
"I am so proud of you....Attorney Josie Boyd."said Beverly...
"You've come a long way baby girl..." I said.. I hugged her too!
"Thank You, Thank You, Thank You..."said Josie..
"We got you a Gold Name Plate for your desk."said Olivia..
"This law practice has come right along...You've got the same amount of attorneys as Mr. Foxworth."said Nelson.

and Pizza was served... It was a nice quiet celebration...
Dabnis walked in...
"Well Hello, Congratulations counselor.." he said and tried to kiss Josie in the lips..she turned her head and accepted a kiss on the cheek..

"Yesss...I certainly would." said Paris, putting down his slice of Pizza.
''Come here baby."said Josie, putting her arms around his neck..pulling him close to her..
Josie and Paris.. kissed passionately like they never wanted to stop...
"Oh for the love of Pete!" said Dabnis..
Dabnis was obviously aggravated...He couldn't call Patricia...She and her husband were at their home, enthralled in lovemaking …..
Her phone kept going to voicemail and it was obvious,

"Hey guys...Me and my guy are going back to my place to celebrate privately....Thank you all for another nice night...I'll see you guys first thing, Monday Morning.."said Josie..
"Good Night everybody."said Paris, as they left out...
''We'll be in the car." said Beverly softly..
Nelson followed her to the car....
"Looks like I'll be uh leaving too...It was nice working with you guys...Perhaps we'll work together again sometime..." said Dabnis as he walked out..
"Well Mrs. Alexander...Your chariot awaits ." I said...

Dabnis watched as we all drove off....He took one last look at the small bar we were in...A Place he wouldn't frequent himself and walked toward his car..
