That Morning on the train ride to work...

"I hear you guys are working on a huge case today." said Sean Marks, A Federal Public Defender and husband of Natalie's best friend, Brooke...

"Yes, it involves nine people who were convicted of a crime they may not have committed , five years ago....One of them was able to get the INNOCENCE PROJECT to look at their case and they subsequently brought his eight co-defendents cases to our attention.  We hired Olivia and Beverly and their team and Yvette Jones Lockwood and their team to help us... This is the first time we've worked with both teams at the same time...We've booked our conference room for the next two weeks." said Brooke.

These cases were originally prosecuted by our old pal, Nick Fuentes, the former Deputy D.A.  He made his name putting these 9 guys accused of a brutal gang rape of a white jogger in prison... This got him put on track to be D.A...

He didn't get the nomination and Gil Garcetti won....and he became Garcetti's biggest critic...

 He is especially interested in this since he is planning another political run...This time for States Attorney and after we put a bad taste in his mouth last year when he tried to make Brooke confess to a wrong doing she wasn't responsible for...He's really interested in making sure this case is buried..." said Natalie.

"Yeah, he's going to fight this to the very end.." said  David..

"And we are going to fight him til the end and beat him again."said Natalie.

"Yes Mam!"said Brooke, high fiving her best friend...

"You better know it." said Natalie..

"That's the spirit girls.." said Sean

At the next station all of their  friends and associates got on....

"Hey Sean, Brookie, Nat, David...Seems like we were all just together...huh? On The Beach a week ago."said a smiling Jazzy...

"Yeah and yall got another big case...Damn!  I love when you guys get a big case.. It brings everybody together.." said Dabnis..

"As if we aren't together enough..We all live on the same street for the most part...."said Kayla.

''Well I for one ,like to see the other Bennett women"laughed her husband, Ray.

"Liv and Beverly and the rest will be along...They're making sure our food orders are up to snuff..We'll be getting Hoagies from the Hoagie Shop today."said Bresha,.

"Wow we get to work together."said Tony....

"You and me get to work together on this one babe." said Josie.

''Wow...Me as a para-legal assisting you."said Paris.

"I just love facilitating all of you."said Jessica,.

"You're a good Project Manager...Slim said So."said her husband, Chip

"Least we don't have to go far...Just downstairs..."said Keith Jones..

"Yes and by the time this goes to court...Ole Lt. Tragg will still be at sea and not in our way at all.."said Bee Bee.

"This case has nothing to do with him anyway...For once..He wasn't the arresting officer."said Sofia.

"Yeah, that feels good."said Kahlil.

"Wow..back from our mini -vacation and into a new case.."said Yvette..

"I know...Maybe we take another one after this case.."said Jade.

"Not a bad idea..."said Virginia.

Jetty just laughed...

"Your wife will be down here today...Olivia is bringing the entire staff this week." he said.

"Yeah ,I know...I might drop by,."laughed Rockland.

 

 II-

After eating breakfast in The Cafeteria.. 

Everyone set up in the Conference room.  Olivia and her team had arrived by now and had set up on their end..

Beverly and Nelson and Josie...and her her husband, Paris, now a Para-legal, helping them for the first time.. Bresha and her attorney husband, Tony, assisting them also for the first time on a case...The girls, Josie and Bresha loved having their husbands assisting them...Donnie Ray was there....and Alfreda was along to co-ordinate the delivery of the food.. With Lt. Tragg away, they didn't have to worry about their vehicle being bugged and they drove in and parked in the indoor parking  garage.

Seated near them was Yvette's group from upstairs.. Yvette, Keith Jones, Beatrice Jones, his wife, Sofia Garcia-Ahmed, and her husband,Kahlil, and Ms. Jade.. Yvette's team and Olivia's team not only mirrored each other..but had worked together many times before on cases...

Their office manager, Virginia Shaw Dukes was also present to help with facilitation on their end..

ADA Karen Page was running the show...along with Jessica Sanchez-Burrows ,her husband, Charles "Chip" Burrows and staff attorneys, Brooke Marks, Natalie Charles and her husband, David Charles.

They were dissecting nine separate cases concerning a crime that occurred 5 years ago in which a police officer and a civilian lost their lives... These 9 people were roped in and accused and convicted of two murders and sentenced to life... THE FAIRMONT 9

There was evidence that the wrong people may have been arrested and convicted after a three week show trial.

There was boxes of files..

Olivia and her team had three boxes of files ,dealing with four defendents..

Yvette and her team had three boxes of case files..

These Case files contained Trial Transcripts, Autopsy reports. Crime Scene photos..and the names and addresses of witnesses..

The last three boxes of case files went to Brooke, Natalie, David, Jessica and Chip..

These nine defendants were defended mostly by Public defenders, overworked, underpaid, who advised some of them to plead out... When it came time for sentencing...they all wound up with life sentences..

But now... they had a Dream team of Attorneys looking into their cases.. Private Attorneys like Olivia and Beverly's team and of course, McCluskey/Cozen/Connor and Pratt's team of Yvette, Keith, Bee Bee,Sofia and Kahlil.. The Innocence Project's best, Jessica and Chip and of course the Staff Attorneys of the Wrongful Conviction/Conviction Integrity Unit.

Karen placed a glossy on the table.

"Most of the Public Defenders who tried the original cases have moved on to bigger and better things..I don't want Jade and Donnie Ray wasting time trying to look them up, but we are in luck...One of them works right across the street from us...This Person, Kathryn Stassen.

She showed us a photo of Kathryn "Katie" Stassen..

"That's Katie...We knew her from the Public Defender's Office...She was our superviser.. I don't know who had the biggest crush on Natalie.. Her or David.."laughed Brooke.

"Oh Please, like she wasn't checking you out too?" laughed Natalie.

"She has good tastes. I gotta admit that...You had a lot of guys salivating and looking at both of you..."said David, who remembered..

''Yeah we did...Brooke and me used to laugh...We weren't interested in any of those guys...." she remembered..

"She was Bi-sexual...She had a boyfriend at one time....His Name was Hal Jenkins...He was another Public Defender there....She was crazy about him....She told me he was hung like a horse....but he was also a big Dog....and when they broke up, I suppose that uh swore her off men for good.." said Brooke.

"WOWWWWWWWWWWW,SO MUCH DRAMA AT THE PUBLIC DEFENDER'S OFFICE...WHO WOULD HAVE THUNK IT?"laughed Karen..

"Oh it could be a regular Peyton's Place around there sometimes..."added David,laughing... 

"Well we are in luck..Kate Stassen works across the street at the Women's Law Center...One of you bring her over here...She can shed some light on the case...."said Karen..

"Let's flip a coin for it." said Brooke.  "Heads" said Brooke

"Tails" said Natalie, laughing..

"You win Nat or you lose, depending on how you look at it."said her husband, David.

Natalie laughed... "I'll go...This ought to be good for a laugh." she said.

III-

While this big meeting was going on...About a mile away, down the Marina at a diner...A Meeting was taking place between ,Former FBI Agent, Now Private Investigator, Bert Vandenberg and Lt. Tragg.

''Artie , this place is a dump..but the Burgers are incredible..."said Bert..

"Yeah, I know..The guys on the ship hipped me to this joint.." he said..  "This is Day Three of my 45  Day hitch on that boat, care of that little bitch, Lisa Waters...Ouuuuuuuu I hate her."  said. Lt. Tragg

As they enjoyed their Burgers, Fries and Milk Shakes..

"So What you got for me?" asked Lt. Tragg...

"Well at first not much...

Your girlfriend, Lisa Waters works all day and sometimes at night...When she's not at her law firm in Center City, she's in court....

Her girlfriend , Kate Stassen is a workaholic too! Same Thing, Working hard at the Women's Law Center...

But the other night...They got into a loud knockdown drag out fight in Curleys... 

Curley had to get in between them They appear to have broken up...

And Katey Poo has been busy...Spending a few nights with this chickadee..

Savoy Brown, An Attorney at the Women's law Center she's become quite close to..

"His name is Hal Jenkins...He's also an Attorney....They used to have a thing...back when both were Public defenders...Now he's in Private Practice also...And our girl apparenty had no problem playing on the other team for a night....huh?" said Bert, showing Lt. Tragg racy photos of Hal Jenkins and Kate Stassen making love in his loft a few nights before...

and to make matters worse...

Sue Sue has called her 125 times and she hasn't returned her calls....."said Bert...

Lt. Tragg laughed loud and long....

"I want you to mail these photos to Susan Waters...If I'm right...These will drive her over the damn edge." he laughed loud and long...

''Why are you doing this ? Why do you get so much joy out of other people's misery?" asked Bert Vandenberg...

''SHE IS THE REASON I'M ON THIS GOTDAMN BOAT!!! THE CASE WAS OVER...SHE LOST OKAY ? SHE HAS TO CALL A PRESS CONFERENCE BLAME IT ALL ON ME, GO ON HARD BOTTOM, DO A HIT JOB ON ME ON TELEVISION, COMPLAIN AND WHINE TO MY CAPTAIN AND THE DEPUTY OPS UNTIL THEY HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO TAKE ME OFF THE STREETS, PUT ME BACK ON THIS GOTDAMN BOAT... AND TO MAKE THINGS WORSE, SHE BRINGS UP ANOTHER CASE..A CASE THAT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE CASE SHE LOST AND BLAME ME FOR THAT." bellowed an angry ,Lt. Tragg...

''Artie, if I recall...You arrested a young Black woman named Faith Grudin, accused of her of killing and robbing her business partner..

And a Black Lawyer named Alvin White...

Accused him of raping and murdering his ex- girlfriend.....You loused up both cases and they both were acquitted and it turns out the same guy...

Toby Tyler, a white guy was responsible for the murder and robbery of Faith Grudin's business partner and the rape and murder of Alvin White's ex-girlfriend, you didn't read the autopsy reports, didn't recanvass, didn't look at any other suspects....That makes you look like a racist and incompetent...Artie, she made some very valid points..."said Bert...

It was as if he had said nothing at all...All of that went right over Lt. Tragg's head..

"Just send those photos..." he said dryly....

He stared balefully at Lt. Tragg....

His phone rang.....

It was Attorney Nick Fuentes...

"Bert, this is Nick Fuentes....Do you have the data on the Attorneys involved in this wrongful conviction case...?/" he asked.

"I do and it's more attorneys than you may think...In addition to the two Innocence Project Attorneys and the four Wrongful Conviction/Conviction Integrity Attorneys....They've hired Olivia Bennett-Alexander and her team and five attorneys from McCluskey/Cozen/Connor & Pratt.. "said Bert..

"OHHHH GOOD LORD!!!!  Stop by my office tomorrow morning...I'll see you then." said Nick Fuentes..

"Another client?" asked Lt. Tragg...

"Yeah and he hates the same people you hate...Olivia, Yvette and their associates and a few hangers on." said Bert..

"Crimminy, I've wished I could get enough dirt on them to get em all disbarred or run em out of town, but unfortunately...They're all squeaky clean...every last one of em.."said Lt. Tragg..

Bert stared balefully at Lt. Tragg...."How could one man have so much hatred for other people?? Be such an asshole." he thought to himself.

THE OFFICE OF ATTORNEY KATE STASSEN...

"Natalie...Natalie!!! You look great..Marriage is good for you..Congratulations to you and David...He's a nice guy...and a brilliant attorney...You couldn't have picked a better guy.....And Brookie too, She got married again...To the same guy?? WOWWWWWW that's just great...I'll have to come across the street and visit you ,Brookie, David and Jessica and Chip...Wow...all of the old gang from the Public Defender's office.. Did you know, My ex-girlfriend prosecuted a case against some other ex-Public Defenders... Olivia Bennett-Alexander, Beverly West and her husband, Nelson East....They were there when I was there  but before you guys came...They were tight with a Jasmine Jenkins too!" said Kate Stassen.

"She's Jasmine Coley now..She's married  too, She and her husband works across the street and we all live near each other..You'll see them all tomorrow, including Olivia ,Beverly and Nelson and company...They're working on this case too!"said Natalie..

"Oh I can't wait.....Yes, I'll come over and I'd be glad to give you some insight on the case...."said Kate.

"Thanks...So How you been otherwise?" asked Natalie..

"Career wise..It couldn't be better.. Now my lovelife...That's a whole nother subject...Unlike you I'm in a kinda reflux... I broke up with Susan Waters....and I'm afraid it's for good...She's very moody and sometimey and she has a mean streak...When things aren't going her way...She takes it out on me, loudly and violently sometimes...

She slapped me in Curleys a few weeks ago,,,,I slapped her back...It was the first time I had ever stood up to her.. We got into a fist fight...

Knocked over beers, broke glasses...

Curley got in between us and threw both of us out... We went our seperate ways..... I haven't talked to her since.. Look at my phone..

She's called me 125 times since then...I haven't answered."said  Katey...

"WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!" said Natalie. 

"Yes....I've been seeing a pretty young Black Attorney at the Women's Law Center named Savoy,

 Savoy Brown....We were getting pretty close and we are both still exploring options....

Then my ex came back into the picture..Hal Jenkins....You remember him from the Public Defenders Office don't you?   Hal with his big ole penis nearly had me enslaved for a couple of weeks...but I'm afraid that's all he wants, is to have a constant bed partner...but little more...So the jury is still out on him and Savoy is looking better by the minute." concluded Katie.

Natalie had come to ask a favor of an old co-worker and had gotten more than she bargained for or even wanted to know...

"WOWWWW! What a life!" was all she could say with a smile..

"Yeah....I've been in your building before...I know where your conference room is...I'll stop by tomorrow morning...It was so nice seeing you again Natalie and congratulations on you and Brooke's marriages.." she said.

"Thank Youuu!" said Natalie , smiling.. She and Brooke had always liked Katey.

IV- 

It was a pain...but we had to keep these case files secure...

Donnie Ray secured all of the files in his Lincoln Navigator, which was parked securely in our building's parking lot...

Olivia was having the buses to come down and give everybody a ride home..

Tonight, a Wednesday and our third day of working on this case, We all decided to descend to the NO ID Bar across the street from our building..

Natalie and her husband, David weren't talking, just kissing....

As was Brooke and her husband....

"We 've had quite a few days this week...I'm glad we are securing those files In Olivia and Beverly's safe every night...I just feel so sorry for Donnie Ray ,lugging them to his car and driving them back and forth..."said Jessica.

"Yeah, but we guys help...And it's nice not to have to ride that train home..We relax in these buses every night.."said  her husband, Chip..

"Especially since we are working until 10:00 pm." added Jessica.

"I'm glad we stopped in here to mellow out."said Donnie Ray.

"Yeah, we needed it after the work day we put in.."said Olivia.

"Well next week, we'll be hosting everybody at our spot." said Nelson.

"Yeah , that way, we won't be compromised at all." said Beverly...

as they drank their Martinis and Beers..

"Baby you were great today, acting as my para-legal..I can't wait for you to be an attorney too!"said Josie..

"Ummmmm don't I uh get a reward for being so great today?" asked Paris slyly...

"That'll be fun....It won't be like work at all.."said Keith Jones, her husband..

''We do everything together... Work together....Live together....Play together.."said Sofia.

"I know...This is like a big ole club."said Kahlil..

"You guys will be at Olivia's..Donnie Ray and I will be out on the streets"said Jade.

"You can come and eat with me..."said her husband, Danny.  "Tragg is gone for 45 days..We can eat at Sam Mother's joint." he added..

"With him gone, the whole city feels at peace...No Innocent person is getting arrested..."joked Virginia..

Her husband Jetty cracked up laughing...

"Shame everybody will be at our place....No more kitchen time.." joked Alfreda...Speaking of their kitchen trysts..

"Yeah I know..." laughed Rockland..

"I can't wait to get you home." said Dabnis to his wife Jazzy...

"Thank you...Hi Savoy....This is my husband, David Charles.. He is a staff attorney at Wrongful Conviction Unit.

"Hi Katey."said David. "Pleased to meet you Savoy." he added..

"Olivia...I thought I recognized you all during the Alvin White trial... My ex- girlfriend ,Susan Waters prosecuted that case..."said Katey....

"I thought we recognized you...Hello Katey...I was leaving when you were just starting there.."said Olivia..

"I wasn't there much longer after my aunt left, but I remember you."said Beverly....

"I remember you well."said Nelson.

"Hello Katey.."said Jessica.  "We are neighbors now..You're across the street from us.." said Jessica, Hello Savoy...We met  at a seminar last year."said Jessica.

"Hi Jessica, Hi Chip."said Savoy..

"It truly is a small world..."said Chip....
