He was either over here at her apartment or with her at Olivia's house, he had clothes at both places......He said he couldn't bare to be without her... She joined him at his house, a house he was becoming uncomfortable with daily, just a few times..When they made love, one of his neighbors banged on the wall telling them to "QUIET THE NOISE!" This both embarrassed and infuriated Rockland to no end.

The nights he did stay at his house....When he was working on a case...He'd find himself calling her...

"It's become a pain in the ass, if you'll forgive me saying that...I don't get along with my neighbors and my house is just too far away from things... I'd like to live near people..real people...Especially since I have friends now. I uh didn't have any friends when you met me.." he said and hung his head.

"That's okay...You have friends now.." said Alfreda..."So you got any prospects?  I'm staying with My daughter and Olivia in that sub-basement...but I'd like a place of my own...Staying with Liv and Beverly will give me a chance to look." said Alfreda.

"Well Olivia put me in touch with her realtors.. Sepia Morris and Bonita Foxworth..

We had great conversations and they showed me a great house..

A House I plan to buy.... Well , I didn't tell you, but I've already purchased it , about a month ago...and when my present house was surprisingly  sold quick..I was able able to pay the balance off on this house and I still had some money left over." said Rockland.

Alfreda's eyes lit up..

"Wowwwwww...good for you.. You're a very smart man...I've always liked that about you." she said. "You're farther ahead in the game than I am...I don't have a clue as to where I would like to purchase a place." said Alfreda.

''Wouldn't you like to live closer to where you work? You know, like Josie and Bresha do.? " asked Rockland.

''Well Sure.. Virginia lives six blocks away from everybody....I was thinking about asking her is there any apartments open in her building.."said Alfreda.

"How about if I told you, that you  could live closer, like across the street?" asked Rockland.

''What are you talking about Rockland? You know a place close I could get?" she asked.

''Let me show you my new house first.. Come Inside." he said and took her by the hand.

Rockland and Alfreda pulled up in front of the house he had bought.

"Ouuuuuuuu, you're across the driveway  from Kayla, Ray, Josie, Paris, Jessica and Chip, Yvette and Gary, Keith and Bee Bee, Sofia and Kahlil and Jade and Danny... You are real close to friends."laughed Alfreda.

"Yeah and a block from the Train station. I can commute to work sometimes." said Rockland..

"I'm a stone's  throw away from Olivia and Beverly." he said.

Alfreda walked inside..

The light came on..

She saw several tables loaded with hot food trays...

"OH MY GOD!! Rockland, what is this, a Surprise House warming party??...Wait, you've already moved in haven't you?" she laughed..

"A few days ago...I uh have to finish unpacking my things " he said.  She saw a row of boxes by the living room wall .

"Hello Alfreda."said Olivia, hugging her..

"Hello Ms. Alfreda." said Bresha

"Hello Ms. Alfreda." said Tony.

''What's going on Rockland?" it's not my birthday..and it's not yours either.? What's with the food ? And why is everybody here? How did they know I would be here?" asked  Alfreda..

The doorbell rang!  

''Hold on."he said and answered the doorbell...

"Aunt Alfreda.."said Kayla. She hugged her and kissed her on the cheek.

"Why do I think this is something more to this than what it is?" said Alfreda.

"Hi Ms. Alfreda. What do you think this is?"said Ray, kissing her cheek.

"Hi Ms. Alfreda."said Josie, kissing her cheek.

"Hi Ms. Alfreda." said Paris.

"Hola Ms. Alfreda."said Jessica, kissing her cheek.

"Hi Ms. Alfreda."said Chip.

"Hi Ms. Alfreda."said Yvette.

''Heyyy Lady." said Gary.

"The Gang is all here...Hi Ms. Alfreda." said Keith Jones..

"Hi Ms. Alfreda."said Bee Bee, kissing her on the cheek.

"Hi Ms. Alfreda."said Sofia, kissing her on the cheek.

"Hi Ms. Alfreda." said Kahlil.

"Hi Ms. Alfreda."said Jade, kissing her on the cheek.

"Hi Ms. Alfreda." said Danny Ho.,

The doorbell rang...

Ms. Virginia arrived..

"Rockland, what is this all about?" asked Alfreda. "What are you doing?" she asked.

"I bought this house for you Alfreda and Me!!!!  Would you marry me? Would you live here with me?" he asked.

He fished out a ring..a sparkling ring....and gently placed it on her finger. Her eyes grew as wide as saucers!!! Tears flowed freely from her eyes.

She kissed him passionately as tears flowed down her face... She had had a daughter and had seen her daughter get married and yet, she had never married herself, now she would be married...

Among the women, there wasn't a dry eye... The men all clapped...

Champaigne Bottles popped and people toasted  and ate...They always loved a chance to fellowship.

Beverly and her mother Alfreda sat on the steps..

"This is nice.. You'll be living right around the corner from me now.." said Beverly..

"How do you feel about this? I mean are you alright with this baby?" said Alfreda ,hugging her daughter.

"Sure! Rockland makes you happy Ma....I've never seen you happier in my whole life...And if he makes you happy...Then that makes me happy too!" said Beverly, who made her peace with her father being married and living in California.

"I know Rockland worships the ground you walk on..He'll never hurt you.."said Beverly.

Alfreda hugged Beverly....

"It is nice to be worshiped" Alfreda laughed.".Ouuuuuuuuu I love you so much...Not exactly how things should have ideally turned out, but hey, life is short...We gotta be happy any way we can I suppose." she said.

"I love you  Ma!" said Beverly..

Olivia sat on the stoop with her and Beverly.

"Freda , you and I were sooo excited when Baby girl here, got engaged.. Remember us picking out patterns for the bridesmaid's dresses and all? Now We are going to pick out the patterns for your dress." said Olivia, smiling and hugging her.

"How long did you guys know about this?" asked Alfreda,laughing..

"A few weeks...We were so glad you didn't see the Moving Vans putting Rockland's things in the house.."said Olivia.

''Your things that are in storage can be brought over here on Monday...And you and Rockland can arrange and situate things...We'll all help. And after you get married.. We'll help you move the rest of your things into the house." said Beverly, hugging her mother.

"I love you two... I swear I love you two to death....You have always looked after me...Now I'll be your neighbor..and can look after you properly." said Alfreda, smiling. "I just came out here to get some air.. Let's go back inside.." she said...

MONDAY AFTERNOON-

Two Uhaul trucks arrived with Alfreda's things from her now former apartment complex....

Under Alfreda's direction, Donnie Ray, Gary Lockwood, Nelson East, Paris, Tony, Dabnis, Ray, Keith Jones, Kahlil Ahmed, Danny Ho and  Chip Burrows helped unload her things and place them where she wanted them..Except for her things that were over Olivia and Beverly's duplex, the new house was fully furnished.

The young women, Olivia, Beverly, Josie and Bresha, from Alfreda's office cooked and cleaned most of the day.  They closed their office and worked in the house all day...

After they got off work they were joined by Yvette, Jazzy, Kayla, Bee Bee, Sofia, Jessica, Jade and Virginia.  

By the time Rockland got home... His new home was completely clean and furnished..

"I can't thank you guys enough....WOWWWWWWWWWWW!" he said.. 

"Well, our house is ready...but we shouldn't live in it until we are married."said Alfreda.

''Alfreda...I've already sold and moved out of my house...I uh don't have anywhere to go...Most of my things are here."said Rockland.

''Sure you do...Right now I'm out of my apartment...Where do you stay any other night?  With me!

It was refreshing...For the first time in a long time. he felt relieved...No stress..He had bought his new home in a community near people that looked like him and were his friends...and the girl of his dreams had said she would marry him. He was beyond Happy.  This was better than any courtroom victory.
