Where Did The Sun Go?

PROLOUGE-

Friday Night We all went to Josie's..

It was as usual ,packed , but all of us in our group managed to carve out a section where we could sit together...

There was five visiting D.J.'s who spun good music... Practically everybody was on the floor dancing at some point.. These five D.J.'s were very good..

We danced and enjoyed the fellowship and good food...

"This was the first bar I came to , when I was old enough to drink...and came to visit my dad."said Josie.

"I met you in here...I remember...You were sitting at the bar, by yourself." said Paris.

"We didn't discover Josie's until after we graduated from law school and moved into this neighborhood, but we've loved it ever since." said Bee Bee.

"This was and definitely the main place to be."said Sofia..

"I liked it when I came here years ago on the Black Dragon Case.." said Jade..

"This is our safe spot...from everything.."said Virginia, who had been coming here for years...

"Dabnis, remember the time you and I sneaked upstairs and did the hibbity bibbity in that spare room Gus has up there?"

"I sure do...We were gone the entire night...by the time we came downstairs.. People were filing out and nobody was the wiser.."laughed Dabnis..

"I love this...This is the way it used to be...All of us safely in here..Together."said Sissy.

"Yeah everybody eats somewhere different,other than Sam Mother's Diner...but at least we can all drink at our neighborhood spot."said her husband, Eddie C.

"Lt. Tragg is the reason we don't eat in Sam Mother's Diner...We have our own building and I understand, Most of the lawyers work out of the Bridge Building and they have their own cafeteria.."said Keith Wallace.

"That way we all eat in peace." said Carlotta.

"Yeah, no whining and complaining..." said Tyriq.

"He has no idea that he has run practically all of us out of there does he? " asked Sirena.

"Most pain in the asses don't realize they are..."said Jimmy.

''Well Sam Mother realizes it...When he hears that Lt. Tragg is suspended and on that Marine Boat, he sends out texts with specials on it to get us all back in there."said Angie.

"It works...We all do wind up back in there."said Duke.

"I hate to catch a homicide and you guys aren't involved...Working with hm drives me crazy.."said Hazel..

"Yeah like this current case....He arrested that Lawyer, A Partner at Yvette's firm and accused him of killing another lawyer...not one bit of forensic evidence and not much of a motive...And they found the guy unconscious with the murder weapon in his hand...Would a real killer hang around like that...I looked at the crime scene photos...It's evident to a kid coming out of the academy that that crime scene was staged." said Hop.

"You forget who you're talking about.." said his wife Sharon..

They all exploded in laughter.

Our good friends, Private Investigator ,Kevin Morris, his wife, Realtor Joanne "Sepia" Morris , who had sold all of us our homes..

"Nice Night tonight.." said Kevin..

"It's a beautiful night " agreed his wife, Sepia.

Our Good Friend, Bonnie Shay and her husband, Ronnie Shay were there too!

"I love this place...It's so warm and homey..."said Bonnie.

"Yeah...and good wings and shrimp too!"said her husband Ronnie, who was chowing down...

Kevin's Main Man, Kool Kat  and his wife...

They sat quietly just enjoying the music and munching on fried chicken and shrimp!

There was fried chicken, fried shrimp to eat and plenty of food and drink for everybody...

SATURDAY MORNING-

A lot of us were at No I.D. Bar for Brunch...

The Best thing about this was there was absolutely no interaction with Lt. Tragg.... Everyone was happy and relaxed...The way you needed to be before trial...

Lt. Tragg for his part wasn't thinking about any of us either...He had talked his way into Assistant District Attorney Holly Madison's apartment and bedroom...

FRIDAY NIGHT

He was with ADA Holly Madison. She was no drinker.. He introduced her to Tequila.. Keith Jones, Third Chair, Sofia Garcia-Ahmed, Fourth Chair and Kahlil Ahmed, Fifth Chair."said Yvette.

''Capital Murder?? Capital Murder, Did I hear her say Capital Murder, This carries a death sentence upon conviction." said our client, Robert Conner, name partner of McCluskey/Cozen/Connor & Pratt.

"Sir, Every Murder charge is serious and carries the possibility of Life in prison or , the death penalty..Relax, We have planned a robust defense for you." said Bee Bee.

It was just hitting him, the seriousness of this...I could tell... He'd been out on bail, free, staying in a hotel, even working remotely...but now his moment of truth was here....and he was afraid..deathly afraid.  I patted him on the back.. "It'll be alright..We got you." I said.  I don't know if that did him any good.

"Relax Mr. Connor. The State doesn't have much of a case...Considering who arrested you,I'd say they have no case...We're gonna get you out of this." said Sofia.

Kahlil patted him on the back and said the same thing I said.,

"It'll be alright..We got you."

He seemed to simmer down a little..

Jade then whispered in his ear... "If this makes you feel any better...I know who the killer is and we plan to prove it before this is done." she said.

Assistant District Attorney Wilber Patch looked like a hungry wolf..

"They're just kids...I'm gonna have them for damn lunch, heh heh heh.." he laughed..

Assistant District Attorney Holly Madison sat on the opposite side of ADA Wilbur Patch, away from Lt. Tragg...She was deeply ashamed of herself. She was no drinker and everytime she drank a lot and got drunk...She got sexually loose.. It happened in College...she got drunk and slept with the Captain of the Football team, The Quarterback and at least three running backs in one night...She swore off drinking until the night before she was supposed to graduate from law school...She got drunk and slept with one of her favorite law proffessor's...To this day, she couldn't look him in the eye... And Now she had gotten drunk and slept with Lt. Tragg, all night and into the day...She didn't want to look at him, nor did she want a repeat of last Friday Night/Saturday Morning..She slept until Sunday Morning...She woke up with her bed stained of semen and semen all over her...She was appalled at her behavior..

Lt. Tragg had a pleased as punch smile on his face..He clearly had enjoyed Holly Madison's affections two nights before...He kept staring at her and smiling, while she looked away...

The Hearing began.... For the next two days of his prosecution, it clearly became an argument of wills between ADA Wilbur Patch and Lead Attorney Yvette Jones.. Their arguments became so impassioned that at times it seemed personal...

His frustration with Yvette and her knowledge of law and predicates began to wear on him to the point that he actually said..

"You know, you need me to take you over my lap and spank you...."

"EXCUSE ME?" said and angry Yvette..

"YES EXCUSE ME MR. PROSECUTOR!!  WHAT DID YOU SAY?" said Judge Wong... "We'll have order and cordialness in this courtroom, is that understood?" said Judge Wong..

His second chair, Holly tried to do damage control, but she was out of her league trying to go up against Yvette with this case.

The war of words between me and him was not much better... Like Ms. Yvette, I made intelligent objections and cited Laws, Predicates and laws used in previous cases like this..

He was  as red as a beet and looked like he wanted to strike me at one point..

The same thing happened between him and Kahlil, who he really didn't like.. He viewed Kahlil as a simple street hooligan who knew law..... Kahlil made a mockery of him....

You could see the redness in his face and the anger in him, his body shaking... This prosecution was not the slam dunk he had thought it would be and he was being eaten alive by us....The worst was yet to come..

Bee Bee and Sofia were destroying nearly all of his witnesses and challenging his forensic evidence on top of making intelligent objections and citing Laws, Predicates and laws used in previous cases like this..

His second chair, Holly Madison tried in vain to help him...but she was not match for Bee Bee and Sofia...They were just too well prepared.....

By the time Wilbur Patch closed his argument and asked that the case be held over for trial..He didn't have much of a case left....

Judge Julie Wong felt a little sorry for him... He hadn't been having a good time in court lately...

A few weeks ago... he had lost a grueling Three week trial to Olivia Bennett-Alexander and crew...

In which Paul Smith, somewhat of a career criminal was acquitted of murder charges...

ADA Patch had been on HARD BOTTOM  bragging that there "WAS NO WAY" he was going to lose this case and how he was going to end.  "This fear Prosecutors have about going up against Auntie and Niecey" a nickname his late brother, also a prosecutor had given Olivia and Beverly and yet he had lost..

Then he had recently been bested in court by Wrongful Conviction/Conviction Integrity Attorneys, Brooke Marks, Natalie Charles and her husband, David Charles who freed Micheal Frisby, a man slated for execution for allegedly ordering the murder of a Motel Manager 14 years ago.... He had successfully prosecuted Frisby twice , in 2008 and 2009... The Pennsylvania Supreme Court and the States Attorney tossed his conviction out, said there was reason to believe he did not get a fair trial and ordered a new trial

A TWO WEEK TRIAL ended in an acquittal for Mike Frisby....

And a second career loss for ADA Wilbur Patch..... and now he appeared on the verge of a third loss to us.

"Mrs. Jones-Lockwood...Do you wish to present a defense?" asked Judge Wong..

"Yes I do your honor, but due to the lateness of the hour...I respectfully ask if we can resume this tomorrow...and I assure you we can clear this entire matter up." said Ms. Yvette.

"Yes it is late.. Alright....I want everyone here tomorrow morning, at 9:00 AM... Be on time and Be ready for trial.." said Judge Wong...

"You Guys are really good!  I'd walk into a courtroom with any one of you....Yvette has really mentored and prepared you guys well." said  Robert Connor.

"Thank You Sir.." I said.

"We told you that the State had very little...We haven't even begun our defense." said Bee Bee.

"Our Defense will clear this matter up quickly....It's not going to trial.."said Sofia..

"We told you...We got you."said Kahlil.

"When he said he wanted to take you over his knee and spank you ,I wanted to kill him." said Jade to Ms. Yvette.

"Oh he definitely has problems with women.." said Yvette.

Another Overcast Day in Philadelphia.

We all walked over to Sam Mother's Diner. where we ordered a Big Breakfast, Pancakes, Sausage, Hash browns, Omelettes, Biscuits and Gravy, Coffee and Orange Juice..

We all sat a big table..

"This was just what the doctor ordered ." I said as I chowed down....

"Makes up for the missing sun in the sky eh?" laughed Bee Bee. She too was chowing down.

"I can't tell you how proud I am of all four of you......You guys really had my back and performed admirably....See?  You prepared well and you had the much more experienced and older attorney looking like a fool...He came in very cocky , thinking he was going to have you four for lunch...Me too!

He's just a year younger than my father....but he didn't....We ate his lunch."said Ms. Yvette..

''We sure did..He was something, talking about he ought to take you across his knee and spank you..."said a disgusted Sofia.. She was ready to cut him...

"You got the wrong guy and when that becomes apparent...I want you to volunteer to go on the Marine Boat for a month. You ready to take that wager?" she said...Knowing he wouldn't.

"I'm not taking any kind of bet....but if I find out you moved any evidence or disturbed my crime scene in any way....I'm gonna snatch your license and use it for toilet paper...do you hear me?" he said.

 

"GET AWAY FROM OUR TABLE!!!! You've made your little statement, NOW GET AWAY!!"said Bob Connor in a very threatening voice...

"YOU'RE IN NO POSITION TO TELL ME A DAMN THING PALLIE!" snarled Lt. Tragg....

"Artie, come on..Get Away from their table...I don't want any controversy before this trial is over." came the voice of ADA Patch...

Lt. Tragg stared at Bob Connor.. "You're a lucky man Connor." he said.

''Am I? I think you're a lucky man.."said Bob Connor staring at Lt. Tragg with Icy Hatred.

"Mr. Connor paid our bill, I think we can all leave now." said Ms. Yvette...

"That's a real good idea." I said.

"Yeah." said Bee Bee holding my arm..

"Right behind you." said Sofia.

"Good idea." said Kahlil.

"See you in court.." Jade said to both Lt. Tragg and ADA Patch..

Lt. Tragg seethed with anger..

ADA Patch simply stared at us as we left with a baleful stare.....

"Not the slam dunk you thought it was going to be counselor, huh?" said Bob Connor.

"Laugh now...I plan to be there when they stick the needle in your arm. Connor." snarled Wilbur Patch.

Later that afternoon..

We are all at home, relaxing at the end of the prosecution's case.

Ms. Yvette and I produced witnesses and doctors who testified that Bob Connor was left handed..

Then showed the photo of an unconscious and wounded Bob Connor with a bloody head wound and the gun, the murder weapon in his RIGHT HAND!!

Sofia and Kahlil interviewed people from the M.E.'s office and police on the scene who testified that the person who called them on the 911 call was not Robert Connor and that he was unconscious when they arrived.

Bee Bee showed his phone and the call that was made to him at the precise time he said it was made..and then the phone belonging to Frederick Glover that made the call....

"Frederick Glover didn't make this call....He was already dead....but my client believed that that was him calling."said Bee Bee.

"OBJECTION!!!! Your Client has worked at the same law firm with the victim for years...He didn't know his voice?" asked ADA Patch snickering.

"Our next witness will shed some light on that...We call Attorney Richard Biggs...." said Ms. Yvette.

Attorney Richard Biggs took the stand...He was a little nervous...He didn't know why he was being called.

"You've been with McCluskey /Cozen/Connor & Pratt for awhile haven't you?" Ms. Yvette Asked.

"Yes. I uh started with the firm just a little before you did..I remember when you started and I remember when you recruited those kids..." he said.

"Yes and I recall we both were competing for Partner at the same time...So was Mr. Glover... I got named Partner and Shortly there after, Mr. Glover got made a Partner and you, who had been around before both of us, felt left behind.... You were increasingly galled when you were picked to work FOR MR. GLOVER Weren't you?" asked Ms. Yvette.

"Yes, I didn't feel as though he deserved it...I felt as though my hard work counted for something and when we lost the Construction Contract.I felt as though it was his fault and yet he tried to fire me...Tried to blame it on me...When I had done most of the leg work..He had done nothing!"said Richard Biggs.

His hatred and resentment for Frederick Glover was coming out...He wasn't trying to hide it...He was playing right into Ms. Yvette's hands..

"You told me that you used to be an entertainer down in Atlantic City before you became a lawyer...You used to do voice impressions and was a ventriloquist....That's how you paid for law school with the money you made at the casinos.." said Yvette.

"You were furious...You knew you had sent that proposal to Frederick Glover in time for him to present it to the union...but he didn't answer his phone and lied about ever receiving it...You were incensed and you went to his condo to have it out with him and you saw it..You saw it in this photo, this crime scene photo on his fax machine....You shot him didn't you???  YOU SHOT HIM, stripped him of his clothing and turned the shower on....You faked the voice ofFrederick Glover and it was you who made the call to Bob Connor...Knowing he'd come over...and you who knocked him out...and placed the gun in his hand and poured Brandy all over him....but you made some mistakes.." said Yvette.

"Mr. Connor doesn't drink...Not Anymore." I said.

"The Police did a urinalysis right after he was taken in....Not a drop of alcohol was found in his system..."said Bee Bee.

"He's left handed , you placed the gun in his right hand and then whacked him pretty hard..."said Sofia..

"And you left a smudged print...a latent print on Mr. Glover's phone." said Kahlil.

"No that's impossible..I wiped that phone down before I left." he said and then he realized he had just placed himself at the scene of the murder..  "I uh don't think I want to say anything else without legal counsel." he said.

"That's a very good idea.."said Ms. Yvette...

"Oh My God, Rich killed Freddie!!!...Oh My God!!!"said Ericka , who we had subpoenaed, but never intended to call...

"In Lieu of this new information , I am dropping all charges against Mr. Connor."said Judge Wong.

"The People concur your honor."said ADA Wilbur Patch....He was livid...It wasn't technically a loss , the trial didn't go to a jury, but it would have been an embarrassing loss had it of gone to a jury....He angrilly turned to Lt. Tragg..

"Artie, How in the hell do you keep that badge?? How in the hell? You overlooked other suspects...You never brought any new forensic evidence to bear and just a lot of little things...He was knocked unconscious...The Gun was in the wrong hand...Did you even read the urinalysis that was taken??  My GOD MAN!!!" said Wilbur Patch as he angrilly walked out of the courtroom.

Holly Madison ,didn't look his way...She followed her boss out of the courtroom, She wanted to put as much distance between her and Lt. Tragg as possible.

He stood there looking stupid with that baleful stare as the courtroom emptied.. Once again, he was the laughing stock of the department....

Later that afternoon at a Tony Rooftop Steakhouse...

"It worked out better than we thought...His hatred for Frederick Glover was  higher than most...He didn't even try to hide his animosity towards him...." I said.

"Once we found out he used to be a Ventriloquist and a Voice Impersonator...We figured out what had happened..How it happened.  He came there killed Glover and then called you Mr. Connor, making you think Mr. Glover had called you...He placed the body in the shower ,turned on the water and then threw his voice once you got there and slugged you..but he overdid it and he made several mistakes."said Bee Bee.

"I've worked with Rich for years....I can't believe he'd do such a thing...The Ironic Thing was , We were going to make him a Managing Partner....Right after Frederick died." said Bob Connor.

''Everybody but Lt. Tragg thinks so...I  wonder if he'll figure out I did move one thing from the crime scene?" asked Jade.
