A Monday Morning at our building....The Bridge Building at Penns Landing..

A woman walked into our offices...

"Ohhhhhh this is a beautiful office.." she said, looking around..

"May I help you mam?" said Virginia, our Office Manager, who then did a double take.... "I know you...

You're Yvette's mother, Mrs. Cora Jones.." she said.

''Yes Dearie...I know she's been here for almost three years now and this is my first time visiting her here...Is she in?" asked Cora Jones..

"She went out to get some coffees, but she'll be right back." said Virginia.

I walked in just then...

"Ohhh Hello Mrs. Jones." I said.

"KEIIIIITH! HELLO!" she said and hugged me.... 

"Where is that pretty little wife of yours?" she asked...

''Right here Mrs. Jones... Ms. Yvette is not far behind us....We went to a coffee shop a few blocks from here..Her favorite...You're just in time." said Bee Bee.

"Mrs. Jones...HOW ARE YOUUU??" said Sofia, hugging her..

"Ohhhh Sofia!...Hiii baby!" said Cora Jones, hugging her... "Hello Kahlil." she said, hugging

"Hi Mrs. Jones..." said Kahlil...

Ms. Yvette walked in with coffees and Jade walked in with Bagels and Doughnuts...

"Mommy!  Well hello....You finally got down here huh?" said Ms. Yvette.

"Hiiii Babyyyy!" said Cora Jones... "Hi Jade!" she said.

"Hello Mrs. Jones...Come into our conference room and join us." said Jade.
 She had a tray of Bagels, Cream Cheese and Jelly

and hot out of the oven doughnuts..

We all adjourned to the conference room...

"Well Mommy, welcome to our suite and our building...After we eat ,I'll give you the tour of the building and this suite...." said Yvette..

Ms Virginia entered with Ice Tea...

''We were celebrating our latest court victory....So I was treating my staff to a continental breakfast."said Yvette.

"WOW!! Staff, you have a staff, your own suite and you're a managing partner....You've come a long way since that day Me and Mrs. Bennett brought our two little girls to the University of Penn Law School on their first day..." said Cora Jones..

"Mommy we were 22 years old...I had graduated from Lasalle University and Olivia had graduated from Temple...We were grown women...and you and Mrs. Bennett gushed over us like we were headed to our first day of Kindergarten.." said Ms. Yvette with a smile...remembering how mortified she was that her mother had accompanied her to her first day at law school and glad that she wasn't the only one...That Olivia's mother had accompanied her too and they both were equally mortified..

The two girls found a kinship...They discovered that they both were in the same sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha..Had both pledged the same semester......They decided to be room-mates and a friendship developed that wound up lasting a lifetime..  

Today they lived across the street from each other and had each others back whenever the need arose.

They both grew to consider themselves the sisters they never had.

"Awww Ms. Yvette, they were proud of you..." said Bee Bee.

"If we had let them, our mothers would have come up with us too!"laughed Sofia.

"My Dad came up...He helped the three of us move into our rooms...but that was a little different.. He was amazed we were in a co-ed dorm..."laughed Kahlil.

My mother's boyfriend came up with me...Helped me get settled... I hadn't met Bee Bee, Sofia and Kahlil yet...That would be a day later... It was a non-eventful first day for me..

After we finished in the conference room... Mrs. Cora Jones met with her daughter privately in her office.

"Vettie honey, I'm here today because I need a favor..."said her mother, Cora Jones..

''What do you need mommy, money?" asked Ms. Yvette.

"Oh No...No...No.... I need your legal help!" said Cora.

''Are you in trouble Mommy?" asked Yvette, surprised....

"No , not me...one of my church members....Eva Sellers...Her son, Curtis Sellers is in big trouble.

He lives in Bayside...He's been arrested and accused of murdering the Deputy District Attorney's wife..

he worked for her...he was her personal assistant...I know he didn't do that...He was quite fond of her.."said Cora Jones.

"HOW FOND?" asked Yvette.

"Oh get your mind out of the gutter Vettie...Not like that....He worked for her...They were friends..just friends...He thought the world of her...He would've never of harmed her.. He was set up.." said Cora..

She passed Yvette an envelope that had a check for $5000.00 and another enevelope that had $10.000.00. The first check is money the church raised for his defense...and the other check is from the local NAACP...That's a retainer and we can pay more.. We are still raising money... Go to Bayside and talk to him, Hear his side of the story at least...Eva knows you're a big time lawyer and she asked me if I could get you to represent her son... I told her I'd go and see you and ask you today. So now Vettie...I'm asking." said Cora.

"Mommy, how can I tell you no for anything.."said Yvette, hugging and kissing her mother.

We'll go to Bayside tomorrow and see about him." said Yvette.

"Oh Thank you Vettie, you've always been my favorite daughter." laughed Cora Jones.

"I'm your only daughter." said Yvette, laughing..

"I know...but you're still my favorite..."laughed Cora Jones.

BAYSIDE- THE OFFICE OF DEPUTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY CORADO STALL.

"Sylvia, I suppose you're wondering why I called you here..." said Corado Stall.

"I completely understand Deputy...You want me to handle the prosecution of Curtis Sellers, the young thug suspected of murdering your wife." said Sylvia Lively, an up and coming Assistant District Attorney.

"Not suspected of...HE DID MURDER MY WIFE....OH MY GOD!" said Corado, bursting into tears....

"Oh My God...Don't cry..Don't cry..You're right...He did kill your beloved wife and I'm going to nail him to the cross..I promise."said Sylvia Lively..

She was originally from Philadelphia.. She had been a Senior Associate Attorney at McCluskey/Cozen/Connor and Pratt...a major law firm.. A terse unthinking remark to one of the partners got her fired..  She hired a slew of attorneys to plead her case..  She sued. Yvette Jones-Lockwood and all four of the partners for 1.6 million a piece.. It would have been a hefty sum for her had she of won...but Yvette Jones

 hired her girlfriend...Olivia Bennett-Alexander and her team and the four attorneys who Yvette had worked with and mentored..

and they turned out to be far superior to the team of attorneys she had hired..  She didn't get a red cent..

She got her job back and her back pay and a demotion to Associate Attorney, which caused her to lose her office and wind up back in a cubicle.

It was an embarrassing and humiliating defeat..and she worked there for a few months before she turned in her resignation and came to Bayside, taking the job of Assistant District Attorney...

She lost her first case.. To another friend of Yvette's and her team of attorneys...

How she hated Yvette Jones -Lockwood more than anything and how she was glad she was here in Bayside and didn't have to see her anymore...

After that loss, she went on a tear, winning her next 50 cases and being listed as an "Up and Coming star in the District Attorney's Office.."

Even the city's handsome District Attorney , Britt Reed noticed her and gave her praise..

She was on a roll and she wasn't going to let anything blow her high...

''Sylvia, let's go out for drinks.." said Deputy D.A. Corado Stall.

"Who is his defense attorney?" asked Sylvia..

'Well last I heard he didn't have a lawyer, but it's probably going to be some Public defender...You've beaten enough of them...No worry." he said.

III-

"I heard Mama Jones paid you a visit today.. Sorry I missed her.." said Yvette's husband, Gary...

"Yes she came by...She told me to tell you hi....She gave me two checks totaling $15K...as a retainer." said Yvette.

"What? Is she in trouble or something?" asked Gary.

"No...but one of her church member's son is in trouble...His name is Curtis Sellers...He's accused of murdering the Deputy District Attorney's wife.." said Yvette..

"That would be Corado Stall..."said Gary.

"You know him?" said Yvette.

"We've met!  I don't like him...He's a Psychopath..If I know right...HE PROBABLY KILLED HIS WIFE." said Gary, half joking.

"YOU ARE SO BAD!...How is he as an attorney?" asked Yvette.

"Cut throat....but you're not going to face him...You know he can't prosecute the case..It was his wife, he's too close to the case.. It's going to be someone else." said Gary.

"You're right and you're very smart...That's why I married you...That's why I sleep with you."laughed Yvette.

"Well I'm glad of that."said Gary as they began to kiss..

"I know you are." she laughed as their kissing got more intense..

"What color panties are you wearing?" he whispered in her ear...

"I'm not wearing any panties.." she whispered back as she lay on top of him, kissing him..She smiled at him devilishly...

"This is a nice place...It's a few blocks from where I used to work.."said Sylvia.

"Mommy Curtis Sellers has a preliminary hearing tomorrow and we plan to be there."said Yvette.

"Oh thank you baby....I am so glad you and Olivia are still friends and still together....You came up together...You should be in each other's lives...I love it and I love the people you have around you.." said Cora Jones. 

 "Olivia is the sister I never had..." said Yvette, hugging her best friend..

Olivia smiled.

"Yeah...Olivia is my sister in law." joked Gary...

"Pass me a biscuit baby." I said.

Bee Bee passed me a biscuit... They were hot and soft and the butter just melted in them...

Sofia and Kahlil passed each other plates loaded with good hot food..

"Olivia, Alfreda and Donnie Ray spent all afternoon preparing this meal.."said Kahlil.

"I'm sure they did...What you can do when you don't have a big case.."said Jade.

"Yeah..If I know right, a week from now, they won't have time for this."laughed her husband, Danny Ho.

"I'm glad they had time for it today.."laughed Virginia.

"Ummmmmmmm, so am I."laughed Jetty.. 

"Dig in..there is plenty of food."said Olivia.

 

"Yes and we don't have room enough in our refrigerator for most of it."laughed Donnie Ray.

"Oh don't worry...The way everybody is eating...We'll be lucky if anything is left."laughed Beverly.

"Look at my husband." she said.

Nelson wasn't paying attention to any of the conversations...he was busy eating and enjoying his food...

as was Josie , sitting on the other side of him...

"Between the cafeteria in our building and here...We eat pretty damn good."said Paris.

"Yes we do....I plan to visit the gym and the spa in your building this week."laughed Bresha.

"Yeah, me too!"laughed Tony.

"I'm glad we made enough food." said Alfreda..

"I'm glad you did too." said Rockland..

Olivia's cousin, Kayla also came over...with two Sweet Potato Pies for dessert..

Everybody raved over that...

"Maybe we should have brought three pies babe...These pies are going to be gone soon." said her husband, Ray.

"Everything is just beautiful." said Yvette's mom, Cora Jones.

Tomorrow a new case began!
