VENTURES: An Engaging Saturday

Renee and her husband Tyrell were hosting another get together at their house..

Renee loved to entertain...This afternoon was no different...

She and Olivia and Beverly and Alfreda had been frying chicken all night before and were not at the NO ID Bar Friday Night with the rest of us.

There was trays of hot Fried Chicken spread out.....

"Thanks for helping me cook yesterday, Liv, Bev and Ms. Alfreda."said Renee.

"You and I have that in common Renee..We love to entertain...When me and my niecey poo moved on this block it was just us and Josie and Josie was living a few blocks away at the time.. We were very lonely at times, Just the six of us...Me, My husband, Beverly, Nelson, Josie and Paris...."said Olivia.

"But gradually, Ms. Yvette and her team and Jazzy and Dabnis , my cousin Kayla and Ray and Jessica and Chip filled in the neighborhood, Along with my husband Nelson and Donnie Ray and Zoey and Lem and eventually everybody else...And this is how we all show our appreciation by organizing these events...We all like each other's company...."said Beverly.

"We sure do. I know you all certainly made me and Rell feel welcome when we first came around here...I told him, I didn't want to live around anybody else but you guys.."said Renee.

"Ditto that....I was over the moon when Rockland sold his house and bought the house across the street where we live now...Being around you guys keeps me young."said Alfreda.

"Awwwww you're forever young Ms. Alfreda." said Renee.

They Also fixed Potato Salad, Collard Greens and Candied Yams..

"That food smells good." said Donnie Ray...

Donnie Ray was fixing a Louisiana specialty Southern Fried Lemon Fish.

He Had slow cooker Shrimp Jambalaya on the oven too...

Nelson was helping him prepare that.

"That smells good ,Tall Dark and Southern...Ummmmmmm!" laughed Alfreda.

"Stir that Jambalaya Nelson...Don't let the noodles stick." said Donnie Ray..

"Ummmm it sure smells good...So does that fish." said Nelson.

Natalie and I, Brooke and Sean and Serendipity and Kevin were the first ones to arrive...

"Hiiii Everybody! Ouuuuuuuuuuu wow! Everything looks and smells good."said Natalie.

"Hey guys." I said.

"Hiiii everybody." said Brooke.

"WOW, Hey Everybody, Everything smells great."said Sean.

Srendipity and Kevin walked in behind us...She had a big smile on her face..

"Natalie, Brooke...Kevin and me...We're engaged..We are getting married in the spring.!" said Serendipity..

"Everyone here is invited..." said Kevin ,smiling sheepishly...

"Yes...it's going to be in May....Please come."said Serendipity...

The rest of the crew entered.

"Fried Chicken and that Lemon Fried Fish Donnie Ray made when we were in San-Francisco."said Keith Jones.

Jetty and Rockland arrived with Beer and Wine.

"The food smells so good....I can't wait to eat.." said Jazzy...

"Oh My God...Hi Serendipity...what's new with you?" asked Dabnis.

"Kevin and me...We're engaged..We are getting married in the spring...Everyone here is invited."said Serendipity, showing off her engagement ring.

"OUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU GIRL!!! ENGAGED....WOWWWWWW ,I'M SO HAPPY FOR YOU!" said Jazzy, hugging her.

"I'm So Happy for you two...Congratulations....I can't wait until Spring."said Karen.

"Nothing like a Spring Wedding." said B.L.

"I love weddings. I don't care what time of year it is." said Natalie.

" Most women feel that way."I laughed.

"Yes we do....We'll have a nice big wedding for them.If they let us."said Brooke.

"Ohhhhhhhhh wowwwwwww!" laughed Sean.

"I'm Happy for you both." said Zoey.

"Yes, me too!" said Lem.

"Thank you guys...I love you all." said Serendipity..

"You're all the best. The Very Best!" said Kevin.

"We knoww! " said Tyrell. Everyone erupted into laughter...

"Grab some plates, The Food is ready." said Paris..

Natika came by herself....Her boyfriend, Deputy D.A. Lester Burke felt some kind of way about it being known and him being seen partying with many of the attorneys his office would be prosecuting cases against..She told him that was ludicrous and that no one of importance would know he was here.. Still,

she couldn't hide her annoyance. Especially since all of her contemporaries were here with their significant others...

She saw Serendipity and she noticed her left hand..

"Dippity Are you engaged?" she asked.

"Yes I am We are getting married in the spring..Everyone here is invited." she said......showing her engagement ring..

"OUUUUUUUUUUUUU GIRL I AM SO HAPPY FOR YOU!" said Natika, hugging her and rocking her back and forth...

Alexa began playing music....a mixture of Smooth Jazz, Neo Soul and Hip Hop...

Everyone began making plates and eating the good food....

Renee had a huge basement , a basement that could house all of us comfortably.

Everyone was enjoying the food and the fellowship...

While we were eating....Matthew got down on one knee in front of Lee...

"What are you doing?" asked Lee as she prepared to make a plate..

"Lee ,ever since we met in the basement laundromat of our building...I've known there was something special about you....I'd be happy, so happy if you made me the happiest man in the world by marrying me...By being my wife." he said.

He pulled out the engagement ring and placed it on her finger...

Lee was deadpan...

"Just the happiest man in the world?...I thought I was at least a Goddess of the Universe."she said.

Everybody laughed out loud...

"YES!!! YES I'LL MARRY YOU!" she said...with tears in her eyes....

The room went up in cheers...

Serendipity hugged Lee and kissed her on the cheek...

She Hugged and Kissed Kevin Collins also.

Natika hugged Lee and Matthew...

"Congratulations to you all..." she said.. herself in tears..

"This is great, two weddings this spring....I love it."said Olivia.

"This group loves to be festive.." said Donnie Ray.

"We do....I am so happy for our friends."said Beverly.

"This Spring is going to be lit."said Nelson.

"It sure is." said Josie.

"Today is lit...This food is good." said Paris.

"Yes it is." said Bresha.

"Great meal Ms. Alfreda."said Tony...

"Thank you, but it wasn't just me...My daughter, Olivia and Donnie Ray helped with the meal...Nelson too!"said Alfreda.

"Yall really put your foot in this food." said Rockland.

"Today was mind blowing...."said Jazzy..

"Indeed!" agreed Dabnis.

"Two surprises, two engagements." said Kayla.

"Yeah, things are moving fast."said Ray.....

''Where's your boyfriend Natika?" asked Jessica.

Just then the bell rang...

"I'll bet that's him now."said Chip gently...

And he brought with him a bottle of wine..

"Hello Everybody!" he said..

"Let me fix you a plate."said Olivia.

"Hello Karen."said Lester.

"Hello Lester, glad you could join us..." said Karen.

"I know you're happy." said Natalie to Natika.

"YESSSSSSSS!" gushed Natika.

I smiled... I knew that bedsprings were going to be squeaking tonight in someone's apartment..

"I'm happy for Natika...I know she wanted her fella to be here...She didn't want to be the only one here without somebody.."whispered Brooke to Sean.

"Especially with two engagements being announced.."said Sean

"This has been a great day."said Zoey...

"Renee ,once again you have given a great event." said Lem.

"Thank you, Thank you...Thank you all.."said Renee.

"Thank you all and congratulations to everyone getting ready to get married."said Tyrell.

"Ohhhhhhhh thank you....My head is spinning right now." said Lee, hugging her fiance..

Matthew smiled sheepishly...

"You all are welcome....I am so thankful for you all." said Serendipity...

"I am equally grateful...Thank you all." said Kevin Collins...

"Ummmm I'm stuffed." said Nina.

"Me as well." said Carlos.

"I'm coming over tomorrow to help you finish up this food."laughed Yvette..

"No, come on by....I'm serious...There is plenty of food leftover...or make yourselves a plate.." said Renee.

"I'm down with that."said Keith Jones.

"That's our dinner for tomorrow night."said Bee Bee.

"Yes....Ours too!" said Sofia.

"Yes." said Kahlil.

"Nelson and I are fixing plates for our dinners tomorrow too."said Beverly.

"Good Idea." said Jade...

"I want some of that Shrimp Jambalaya.." said Danny.

"Oh Me too!" said Virginia.

"Other than that,our Saturdays are pretty much open after brunch."said B.L.

"Dip, we are glad you and Kevin are joining us today."said Natalie.

"Yes, they all are our people."said Brooke.

"Glad to have you guys aboard."said Sean.

"Well let's make some plates and eat up."said Zoey...

"Yeah let's." said Lem.

"I worked out all week in the gym and spa in our building, Me, Brookie, Natalie, Kayla, Jazzy and Ms. Yvette all did...And we missed a few meals too! I'm certain we lost a few pounds.."said Renee.

"Hmmmmmmmmmm ,not in the most important places."laughed Tyrell.

"Last night was incredible."said Lee, talking about the late night love making they made...

Jade envied most of them...They'd known each other and had hung out in one way or another for years.

Danny smiled and finished eating his breakfast...

"These Mimosas are extra good..."said Virginia.
