A Christmas Story

 Renee and Tyrell were hosting Christmas...It was their first year as husband and wife in their new home....

They had a beautiful tree up and were ready to welcome their guests...

Renee was so excited and so happy to host Christmas Dinner...

"Hi everybody....As Ms.Alfreda says...Dig in...Grab yourselves a plate...We are all family here...There are no strangers..."she said excitedly..

So was her husband, Tyrell.

Kayla and her husband, Ray St. Jacques hosted Thanksgiving Dinner at their house.. They used the top floor of their house..  They were more than happy to switch the Christmas Dinner to Renee and Tyrell's house which had much more room...

  Kayla smiled... She, her cousins ,Olivia and Beverly, Donnie Ray and Alfreda had cooked the meal and had worked with the caterers to bring in all of the food. They had left Renee and Tyrell's house a little after one o'clock the night before and had Renee and Tyrell over their house for Breakfast this morning...

"Buffet style Baby." said her husband, Ray,...

"Renee, everything is just beautiful... you've outdone yourself girl."said Olivia.

''Well done ." I agreed.

"I had help...Thank you all for all of your help...with the food, the decorations, everything..

"Oh you're quite welcome...There's enough food for everyone and then some..." said Alfreda...

Her cousin, Olivia,Olivia's husband,  Donnie Ray and her "Aunt" Alfreda prepared the Christmas meal and The Christmas Table..

Donnie Ray's Sister and brother in law and his Niece and Nephew were up from New Orleans again, this year and were dining with us.... His sister and brother in law were staying in the spare bedroom in 

Olivia and Donnie Ray's domicile... While the kids were staying downstairs with Beverly and Nelson.

Beverly and her husband, Nelson and his mother arrived shortly afterwords...

Josie, Paris and his mother and father arrived too..

Bresha, Tony and Alfreda's husband, Rockland arrived.....Rockland had spent many holidays alone...He was glad to be in the company of friends at both Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Jazzy, Dabnis and their parents arrived...

Jessica and Chip arrived with their Parents and Jessica's Grand Mother..

Jade and her husband, Danny Ho arrived....

Yvette,and Gary and Ms. Yvette's Mother arrived next....

Sofia and Kahlil arrived with their parents and Sofia's Grandmother.

Bee Bee came with her mother and father...

Keith Jone's  Father came again with girlfriend...Someone we all knew 

ADA Sharrone Stokes...

It had been two years and they were still together...For him, that was a record, according to what Keith Jones told me.

 Virginia Shaw and Jetty Dukes Arrived next...

Jetty brought Champaigne and Wine..

"Now it's a party" he declared as everybody cheered.

The Caterer arrived with a tray for everybody... An Italian Buffet, A Pan-Asian Buffet, A Latin Buffett, A Middle Eastern Buffett and a Soul Food Buffett...

Everyone's Parents were impressed and really happy that we had thought about all of the different heritages our group consisted of

Zoey and Lem arrived and  Newlyweds, Karen Page and B.L. joined us.....

New Bride, Karen Page looked sensational....

B.L. looked like he had a continuous blush on his face....

And newcomers, Brooke, her husband, Sean, Natalie, her husband, David, Renee and her mother and Tyrell , her new husband and his mother and sister joined us...

"OH MY GOD!! ALL THIS FOOD!" exclaimed Brooke...

"Liv told us to bring our appetites.." laughed her husband Sean...

"She didn't lie....and she told us to bring containers to take some of this food home.."said Natalie..

"Good Idea....That will hold us on the weekends." said David..

"Oh My God...I really like hanging out with these guys, being affilliated with them.."said Tyrell..

"That's why we moved around here babes.." said his new wife, Renee.

Our circle of friends was growing even wider.....That was a good thing! This was our biggest celebration yet....

II-

In addition to dinner, we had games....Cards, Backgammon, Chess

and in their finished basement... Alexa and music... for dancing...

Most of us retreated to the basement for dancing...

'Enjoy yourselves everybody!" said Renee.

"We can bring the drinks down here if you like." said Tyrell.

"You guys have done enough, this is incredible." said Kayla.

"Yeah,maybe we'll have a New Years Party here." joked Ray.

"You know we always bring the New Year in at Josie's." said Olivia.

""Yeah that's right...I'm playing with the house band that night."said Donnie Ray.

"I can't wait to see you Mr. Donnie Ray." said Renee.

"Renee, everything here is beautiful...Thank you for hosting all of us." said Alfreda.

"Great collection of music.."said Beverly...

"Old School R&B, Neo soul, Classic Hip Hop,Latin Jazz...Tyrell has skills if he programmed all of this."laughed Nelson.

"I'm certainly having a good time." said Josie.

"Best Christmas Everrrrrrr!" said Paris.

"Can't argue with that." said Bresha, who was working up a sweat on the dance floor with her husband..

"Like Paris said...Best Christmas Ever." said Tony.

"Best thing is...We can all walk home from here." said Rockland.

"I might be too tired to walk home....I'm going to ask Renee if we can stay the night." joked Jazzy...

"I'll carry you home if I have to."joked Dabnis...

"It's just three blocks."joked Jessica , who was line dancing and Salsaing with her husband..

"You've got a buzz......"laughed her husband, Chip..

"It's Christmas...Let her enjoy herself."laughed Jade.

"You certainly are."laughed Danny Ho.

Yvette was enjoying dancing with her husband, especially on the slow songs...

.."Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmm girrrrrrrrrl" he moaned..

"I am having such a good time." said Sofia.

"I am too!" said Kahlil.

"Best Christmas Everrrrrrrrr!" said Bee Bee...falling into her husband Keith's arms....

After dancing her fill, Virginia plopped down on her husband, Jetty's lap....she giggled.

"Now this is how you celebrate Christmas."said Karen Page...Her and B.L. were staying in Olivia and Beverly's sub-basement tonight.

"Yes indeed." said B.L.

."This is the best Christmas I've had in a lonnnng time."said Brooke, hugging her husband, Sean.

"Me too babe!"said Sean...

"I hope we'll all always be this close."said Natalie.

"I do too!" said her husband, David.

"We all live in the same area..We ride the train to and from work...We eat all of our meals together on most days and work in the same building...Can't get much closer than that."laughed Tyrell.

"We shop together too."laughed Renee.

As Alexa played Christmas music..

Everyone had left...Another Christmas had come and gone...

''Mrs. Jones, tonight was a big sucess.." said Tyrell.

"I think everybody enjoyed themselves." said Renee..

"I'm about to enjoy myself again." laughed Tyrell.

"I should've known you'd want some tonight..."laughed Renee...

Renee and Tyrell were on a flight headed to San-Francisco for the first time as a Married Couple..They both had relatives in San-Francisco...

Flying with them was Olivia and Beverly and company...Naturally Donnie Ray, Nelson, Josie, Paris, Bresha, Tony and instead of Alfreda and Rockland, Cousin Kayla and her husband, Ray....The "Bennetts "for lack of a better term..

 

 

We were flying to San-Francisco.....

Olivia's older brother, Jimmy West and Beverly's father, former Philadelphia High School and Semi Pro Football great, Now the Anchor of a Popular San Francisco Morning Television show and his wife, 

Malinda West, an actress , who I had seen on several TV shows and also in several straight to streaming movies, mostly on Tubi met us all at the Airport....

He hugged and kissed Olivia and Beverly and Cousin Kayla.... He lifted them each up and spun them around....continuing to hug and kiss them...

"Baby Sis..... BEVERLY....... And look at you Cousin Kayla.....just as cute as a button...all of my girls." he said.. He was so glad to see them...

And Olivia simply idolized her big brother...She melted in his arms.....

''So glad to see you Big Bro." she said....

"Daddy!" exclaimed Beverly...

"Cousin Jimmy!" gushed Kayla...

"Liv, you look great....And Beverly, Kayla....look at youuuuuuuuuu , yall are so grown up...I can't believe it!" said Malinda.   She and Olivia had been childhood friends... Beverly and Kayla, Olivia's niece and cousin always wanted to tag along and hang up under the two of them....Now they were grown women and married....

"I see the men are taking good care of you girls...What's up Brother in Law...Donnie Ray....I bought you a bottle man.. Heyy Son In Law, Heyyy Ray...." he said..

"My Mannnnnn" said Donnie Ray, smiling...

"Hello Mr. West." said Nelson...

"What's Goin On Mr. West?" said Ray, smiling...

"You remember my associate attorneys, Josie Boyd and her husband, Paris... He's a few months away from graduating law school, and Bresha Billips and her husband, Attorney Tony Billips from last time ?" said Olivia.

"Yes, I remember them.."said Jimmy..

"How are yall doing?" said Melinda...

"We are doing just fine." said Josie..

"Love this California Weather." said Paris.

"Yes indeed

And these are our two new friends, Renee and Tyrell Jones... They have people here who they've come to visit.."said Olivia..

"Pleased to meet you.." said Renee.

"Pleased to meet you." said Tyrell...

Olivia, Donnie Ray, Beverly and Nelson were going to stay at her Brother's house... 

The rest of us were going to Stay at the AirBNB provided by Ms. Yvette's law firm....

Paris and Tyrell rented cars at the airport.....

The Next Day ,Olivia, Donnie Ray, Beverly, Nelson, Josie, Paris, Bresha , Tony and Kayla and Ray all had a delicious meal at one of San-Francisco's newest and trendy restaurants...Jimmy paid for all of their meals.

"Larry North's not the only one who knows trendy restaurants and cuisines.." said Jimmy...

"Jimmy, everything is delicious..."said Olivia.

"Mannnnn you are starting to rival me in your knowledge of great eating spots." I laughed..

"Nah New Orleans...You're still the man." laughed Jimmy...

''Although Donnie Ray has been slippin a little back home." joked Beverly , playfully nudging Donnie Ray on the shoulder.

''Ahhhhh not that much...We just been meeting a better class of client."joked Nelson.

"Yeah right...Not our last two cases." joked Josie..

"Yeah one you took Pro Bono and the other one you were paid by the Wrongful Conviction/Conviction Integrity Unit and The Innocence Project."laughed Paris.

"Point is..we got paid..but just standard....Not what we'd get from a well heeled client." said Bresha.

"Aren't you tired of all this lawyer talk?" Tony whispered to Kayla.

"Yeah,let;s talk about this good ,hot food...It is delish."said Kayla.

"Yesss, it is.."said Ray..

''Where are your other two friends?" asked Melinda.

"Oh they both have relatives in Oakland...

and Daley City....

We are supposed to hook up with them tomorrow." said Beverly...

The Next day...

Everybody hooked up with Larry North and his wife, Teel..who took us to a romantic restaurant....

 

"I love steakhouses Larry, this one may be the best yet.." said Olivia.

 

"Yes indeed!" said Donnie Ray...

"Larry you know the best places." said Beverly..

"That's because Mister Big Shot is always taking his clients to these spots..."laughed Teel..."He's no longer with the Innocence Project....He's in Private practice now, with a Private San-Francisco firm."said Teel.

"Oh woww..Congratulations are in order." said Nelson.

"Thank You....Thank You...It's only been a month!" said Larry North..

"No wonder we haven't been called out here to help with a case." said Josie.

"Yeah."laughed Paris.

"That's Okay...I still run Wrongful Conviction/Conviction Integrity unit here in San -Francisco....I may call you guys if a case calls for your expertise." said Teel, smiling.

"We often work with Innocence Project/Wrongful Conviction/Conviction Integrity at home." said Bresha.

"Yeah." said Tony.

"I've worked with both groups myself." said Renee.

"Ouuu here comes our steaks." said her husband, Tyrell...

The steaks and baked potatoes and salads arrived.. The food was delicious...

Everyone went to the same club in Oakland , the next night where there was live music.

and a large crowd...

"I love this club....I'm glad it's still here." said Donnie Ray.

"I am too! " said Olivia.

"Girrrrrrl, it's a good thing your father isn't here....He'd have a fit seeing you in that dress."said Nelson with a wry smile.

"But you like it and I've got your last name...so really, it's none of his business."said Beverly smiling

"Pay her no mind Nelson...If Mr. Jimmy walked in right now, she'd head for the ladies room until he was gone." said Josie.

''HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH, YOU GOT THAT RIGHT JOSIE!"laughed Kayla.

Paris cracked up laughing...

"LAWWWWD, ALL THREE BENNETT WOMEN ARE SAYING A TASTE TONIGHT!" Gary whispered in Paris's ear.

"I've got a slight buzz, These drinks may be cheap, but they aint watered down." said Bresha.

"I knowwwwwwwwwwww!" laughed Tony.

''Well at least we've got no Homicide Lieutenant playing Traffic Cop overseeing us tonight."said Renee, who had a slight buzz herself.

"Feels good doesn't it?"laughed her husband, Tyrell.

The crowd was jumping and the band played most of the night.. The Bar had DJ's and the drinks were cheap...

We had a ball...

The next day, their last....They all did a little shopping.

and sight seeing.....

finally winding up in a local bar they loved....

"I remember this bar, last time we were here." said Kayla.

 "Yeah...I do too, a little smaller than the ones we hang out in at home." said Ray..

 "True, but it serves a purpose." laughed Olivia.

"Yeah, cheap drinks!" said Donnie Ray...

"I'm here for it!" said Beverly....

"It's Thursday Night... You think everybody at home went to Curley's? " asked Nelson.

"I doubt it..."said Josie..

"They're probably at Josie's " said Paris.

"We'll be home tomorrow!" said Bresha...

"Yeah and gettin ready for New Years Eve!" said Tony....

"This was a nice Mini Vacay."said Renee.

''Everybody was glad to see us and not surprised that we hooked up and got married."laughed Tyrell.

The Next Morning...After saying their goodbyes...The 12 of them boarded the plane and headed back to Philadelphia..
