Just One?

SATURDAY MORNING!  

We arrived at Curran-Fromhold....Called "CFC" on the street, a modern city jail where 100 or so innocent or legally presumed innocent men sit awaiting to go to trial... Mostly men who have Public Defenders and can't afford bail money...

 We were visiting a high profile suspect, who was being kept segregated for his own safety... Assistant U.S. Attorney, Todd Dellums, currently charged with First Degree Murder....He was seething with anger and wanted to kill Lt. Tragg for arresting him and forcing him into this situation...

He thought about his new girlfriend, Assistant District Attorney Vanessa Stevens, two years older than him...So nice, Skin so soft, Smells so good..Breasts so big, 

Kisses so soft....

He thought of the Friday Night and Early Saturday Morning he and she might have been having..

Him slipping her panties down...

They were supposed to take in the Regatta on the Boathouse row...He was pissed that he'd be missing all of that .  Now his sleep was being disturbed because he had visitors... He wondered who it could be?

To his surprise....He saw Vanessa...He had to do a double take.. Could he be dreaming?

"VANESSA?? What are you doing here?" he asked.

"Why wouldn't I be here?  I came to see you....and I brought your legal defense team." she said..

"Good Morning Todd!" said Olivia.

"You can't stay out of trouble can you?" joked Beverly, whose body, ways and demeanor reminded him of his former fiance, 

Beatrice Evans-Jones..

"Morning Counselor." said Nelson.

"Good Morning."said Josie..

"Good Morning ." said Bresha..

"Morning Counselor." I said.

Upon seeing us, he smiled from ear to ear...."This is great, you guys are my defense team, the bane of Lt. Tragg's existence...I LOVE IT!!!" he said..  We had gone up against him five times in the past... resulting in three hung juries and two victories for us... He didn't hold it against us...He knew we were skilled attorneys...and he respected our talent...Especially since it would be used to help and not hinder him...

"We brought Food!"said Olivia...

Hot Doughnuts...

Bagels, Cream Cheese, Jelly.

Pastries...

"We know you're hungry....So we brought you a continental breakfast." said Nelson..

"You guys are the absolute greatest...." said a very grateful..Todd Dellums.  All he'd had to eat since his arrest was a dry Ham and Cheese sandwich and a cup of semi warm coffee at Central Booking.. He was famished.

"And for lunch, we picked this up at Luigi's Primo Hoagies..because Vanessa told us these were your favorites.." said Beverly, showing him the Hoagies.

"Before we begin...I believe you owe me some sugar!"said Vanessa.

"But of course.."said Todd, smiling sheepishly....

He kissed her passionately.....So passionately...We all blushed...

Olivia pulled out a Thermos of Hot Coffee...

"Now...We are going to talk about your case...Something we rarely get to do this early in the game..Usually our clients are down at Central Booking where the walls have eyes and ears..

We have a modicum of privacy here,,,We are going to get you a Judge and some charactor witnesses on Monday and Tuesday Morning, we are going to get you arraigned... We've secured a Bail Bondsman too!" said Olivia..

"I like the way you guys work..Neat and efficient...You get right to it."said Todd.

"That's why we win."said Beverly..

"And we plan to win this case too!" said Josie.

"You know, our last three cases didn't involve Lt. Tragg at all..One court case and two litigations.. Thanks for bringing us back in his gun sights..Thanks a lot."Joked Bresha.

''Yeah Thanks!" said Nelson with a grin..

"Wait til he finds out we are on this case...His head is going to explode..." I said..

Vanessa cracked up laughing..

"Sorry Guys...."shrugged Todd..

Beverly, Olivia and Josie cracked up laughing.... And we slowly took our seats and began chowing down religiously ,laughing and talking...

 

II-

Lt. Tragg's weekend couldn't have been better.. The man he hated the most, Assistant U.S. Attorney, Todd Dellums was behind bars and not in the cooler, but in the city jail, accused of First Degree Murder..

He laughed with glee at that...

 This Saturday morning, his mind was on the night he had had previously..

FRIDAY NIGHT

He hadn't seen ADA Jill Jones in at least nine weeks....He missed her and he needed desperately to get laid..

He was with ADA Jill Jones.. She was no drinker.. He had introduced her to Tequila.. At Sam Mothers Diner...The gang was all  there, except for Olivia and her crew....Jazzy, Dabnis. Kayla, Ray, Jessica and Chip decided to throw caution to the wind and have breakfast at Sam Mothers Diner this Saturday Morning..

"I can't believe Liv and the Gang are working today."said Jazzy..

"They had a Big Case...U.S. Attorney Todd Dellums was arrested and accused of Murder."said Dabnis.

"They are up at the City Jail visiting with him this morning..They're still going skating with us at the Bayside skating rink tonight." said Kayla.

"They stay busy....but that's why they make the big bucks." said Kayla's husband, Ray.

Jessica laughed and drank her orange juice.....

"I envy them." she said..

"You idolize them like we all do.," laughed her husband, Chip....

"It sucks...Them working on the weekend...I'm just glad it's not every weekend."said Josie's husband, Paris.

"I hear ya."said Bresha's husband, Tony.

They were all at the counter..

Enjoying their breakfasts....and quietly laughing and talking... Yvette and her crew were all seated at one large table in the center.

"I miss Livy not being with us.."said Yvette..

"They are at the City Jail.. They got a big case...Wanna tell em Kahlil?" asked Gary.

"Todd Dellums was arrested and charged with murder Thursday Night." said Kahlil.

"WHATTTTTTT? MURDER???He's a lot of things..but he's no killer." said Bee Bee, who had known him all her life and was once engaged to him..

"He's not my favorite person, but even I agree with you there." said Sofia.

"Olivia and Beverly are going to prove that." said Keith Jones..

"They picked up his case pretty quickly.." said Jade.

Her husband Danny laughed..  "Lt. Tragg arrested him, wouldn't let ADA Vanessa Stevens even talk to him...When he finds out she hired Olivia and Beverly and team, his head is going to explode."he said.

"I'd like to see that."laughed Sofia...

"At least you didn't have to work today girlfriend.."said Virginia to Alfreda..

"Nope...I'm resting up for tonight when we all go skating."laughed Alfreda, our office manager...

Rockland put his arm around Alfreda and squeezed her tightly...She smiled and rubbed his hands softly...

As their breakfasts arrived and they began eating..

Jetty walked in with a bottle of champaigne..

He ginergly poured champaigne into everybody's orange juice glasses. everybody clapped  and applauded...

"WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING?" snarled Lt. Tragg....who was just coming in and noticing that some of his favorite people were here..Eating and talking ....The counter was full, every seat was taken and everyone else was in the center , eating and laughing and talking..

"WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE I'M DOING?  WE ARE HAVING MIMOSAS WITH OUR BREAKFAST....NOW TAKE YOUR FIVE DOLLAR ASS AWAY FROM OUR TABLE BEFORE I MAKE CHANGE!" said Jetty...

This was met with raucous laughter...

"IS THAT A THREAT BUDDY?" snarled Lt. Tragg...

"I DON'T NEED TO THREATEN YOU BUDDY!" said Jetty...

"Ignore him Honey, come on , sit down and have some breakfast with me.. I already ordered for you."said Virginia, who didn't want to see another fist fight in here.

Jetty finished filling everybody's orange juice glass with Champaigne and he sat down with them at the huge round table.  Sam only carted it out and had it put together when he expected a big crowd.. Yvette had called ahead.

He paid Lt. Tragg no mind at all..

Everyone decided the best way to deal with the Lieutenant was to ignore him completely and continue their  conversations..and continue eating...Not to engage him in anyway... Their conversations had nothing to do with legal matters anyway...

He stood there  being ignored...Everybody was eating and drinking and talking as though he wasn't there.

"WHERE IS OLIVIA, BEVERLY AND THAT GANG?" he bellowed..

No one answered.

 "They are somewhere...Not being annoyed by you Artie...Now either order something or GET OUT!! I WON'T TOLERATE ANY TROUBLE TODAY!" snarled Sam Mother..

None of the kids at the counter said a word...They kept talking quietly amongst themselves... 

Lt. Tragg noticed that the husbands of two of Olivia's girls were present, but neither of them were.

THEY WERE UP TO SOMETHING...HE KNEW IT!!!

Lt. Tragg folded his arms like a petulant child and took a seat at a table and waited for a waitress to bring him some coffee and take his order..

And at the prison...

"I was in the middle of a very sensitive prosecution...Federal Prosecution.. Randy Wiggins was a confidential informant...He had already given the government very sensitive information regarding this case..We were very close, very close to a multiple indictment...He called me Thursday Morning.. He sounded afraid. He said he couldn't come to the federal building ..He said he had to meet me someplace safe and quiet, away from the public eye...He told me to meet him in that warehouse...It was empty,it was quiet...and to come alone... I did.. when I got there a little after two...He said that his identity had been compromised that they "knew his name..they knew who he was." Before I could say a word, a gunshot rang out..a single gunshot and he fell to the ground and I was hit from behind and knocked unconscious...I didn't have a gun...I never saw that gun before in my life...When I woke up...it was in my hand....still hot, still smoking...and I was surrounded by police and medical examiners personell..."said Todd Dellums.

"Did you tell anybody you were going to be meeting Randy Wiggins there at that time and at that place?" asked Olivia.

"No, Not a soul...Our meetings were always confidential...I didn't write any notes pertaining to him either. He was known as Witness X."said Todd.

"Well Somebody knew you were meeting him there...He must have been followed by whoever he claimed knew about you two trading information."said Beverly...

''And what were the police and the medical examiners people doing there?? Nobody was up that time of morning, No one would have heard that shot... He could have been in there mouldering for days before he would have been discovered...and whoever could have very well have killed you too!  No...This was a set up...Somebody wanted you discovered with the hot smoking gun and his fresh corpse." I said..

''Donnie Ray!" said Olivia..

"Sorry, I do tend to get descriptive." I said.

"I think Donnie Ray will one day wind up on Television.Hosting his own Television show, like "HARD BOTTOM"joked Beverly.

"I think one show like that is enough." laughed Vanessa.

"While we are here...write down the names of people who will be your charactor witnesses...We'll round them up on Monday." said Nelson..

Todd wrote down about twenty names,phone numbers and addresses...He passed his list to Bresha.

Bresha put the list in her purse.

"I'll find us a judge also on Monday... I hate that you have to spend an extra day in here."said Josie.

"Believe me, Nobody hates this as much as I do."sighed Todd, Arrested early Friday Morning and having to spend, Saturday, Sunday and Monday in stir before his arraignment on Capital Murder charges on Tuesday Morning.

III-

SATURDAY NIGHT- BAYSIDE SKATING RINK...

We left the jail around 3:30... It had been a great visit for Todd...It had lifted his spirits... Afterwords..We went home and we all loaded up in our buses and headed to the Skating rink..

We were all at the skating rink in Bayside.. Olivia and I, Beverly and Nelson, Josie and Paris , Bresha and Tony and Alfreda and Rockland.

"What a day we've had... this is nice and relaxing." said Olivia, skating alongside me....

I held her hand and we both began skating backwards and then spun around and skated forward...

''We make a pretty good team don't we?" I said , smiling.

Beverly and Nelson were skating together...with her head nestled on his shoulders..

"This is soooo nice." said Beverly..

"Like a dream come true."said Nelson, swooning..

Like Olivia and I, Josie and Paris skated backwards and then turned and began skating forward....

She had her head nestled on his shoulder...

Bresha and Tony didn't do anything fancy...They simply skated together..

With his hand on her waist....

"Come on Old man, let me see what you got."joked Alfreda, who was 13 years older than her husband, Rockland as they skated together..

"I think you know what I got babes."joked Rockland..

Yvette and Gary, Bee Bee and Keith, Sofia and Kahlil, Jade and Danny, Virginia and Jetty were also out tonight..

Yvette and Gary skated together in perfect rhythm...

He held her hand softly and spun her around and then skated away with her...

Bee Bee and Keith skated together, holding hands..

"Lovin the music, how about you?" asked Bee Bee.

"Both of those D.J.'s are working tonight..."said Keith...

"Yes they areeeeeee!" said Sofia.

"This is so much fun." said Kahlil as they too skated together.

Jade and Danny skated together in perfect rhythm...She remembered learning to skate and skating with her parents in both China and Japan.

Danny held her hand softly as they skated..almost as if they were waltzing..

"Come on Old man...put on some skates and skate with me.."said Virginia, lacing up her skates....

"Nawww darlin....I like watching your sexy figure better."laughed Jetty...The only one who did not lace up...He was happy to watch.

With the exception of Jetty...Everyone laced up some skates and was skating tonight..

Rounding out our crew was  Jazzy and Dabnis, Kayla and Ray, Jessica and Chip and Zoey and Lem.

"Come on Honey....Let's goooooooooo!" said Jazzy, skating faster..

'' Slow it down a bit.."laughed her husband Dabnis ,tryng to keep up with her..

Kayla and Ray laughed at the two of them as they held hands and skated together.

"You better catch up with her Dabnis...she's getting away from you."laughed Ray.

Jessica was an excellent skater and she skated backwards and spun around, coming back to her husband, who she had taught how to skate and grabbing his hands ....

Skating backwards , while he skated forward..

"They Look so cute together." said Zoey , watching them skate as she and her husband, Lem skated slowly...

He was a pretty good skater. He smiled and patted his wife's booty..."We are cute too!" he said as they skated with the rest of us.

The calm before the storm...Olivia.Beverly, Nelson, Josie ,myself and Bresha knew it....If no one else did as we enjoyed ourselves, skating..

There was three D.J.'s tonight...and the music was slamming as the young folks say...

After we finished skating...We all found a modern Asian Fusion Restaurant in town....We had dinner and drinks.

"This is the proverbial calm before the storm... I really enjoyed myself tonight and I plan to sleep late tomorrow."said Olivia.

"Yeah Me too!" I said..

"This food is delish.."said Beverly...

"It is..." agreed husband, Nelson..

"I'm with Liv...This is the calm before the storm...I'm sleeping late tomorrow." said Josie.

''At least you'll be in bed with me."said Paris.

Bresha laughed hearing Paris's remark... She looked lovingly at Tony..."I'll be with you in bed too!" she laughed.

"That's what's up."laughed her husband, Tony...

"Ummmmmmmmmmm this food is delicious..."said Alfreda..

Rockland looked at Jade..

"I defer to you....You show me what is good.." he said.

"Ouuuu so many things....try the spicy vegatable rolls first." said Jade.

Danny smiled....

"Ummm this food is delish.."said Yvette , munching on some of everything..

as was her husband, Gary.....

"Wow, we are having all this fun and poor Todd is sitting in jail... I know if he is innocent of murder, seeing Lt. Tragg  would actually drive him to murder." said Bee Bee.

"They've had two punch outs in the past...You're probably right though."said Keith.

"He's got good counsel...The Best, next to us."laughed Sofia.

"I'm glad we don't have to defend him, for many good reasons." said Kahlil.

"Having met him...I'd have to agree." said Virginia.

"Ahhhh he's not so bad."said Jetty, sampling the hot steaming food.

"Mmmmmmmmmm, I don't know what to start with first.."said Kayla.

"I'm having some of everything."said Ray...

"Me too!" said Jessica..

"Make that Me three." said Chip....

"The Scunnions make everything tastier.."said Jazzy, who was the only one of us who had actually been here before..

"Ummmmmmmmmmm this food is delicious..."said Dabnis...

"Yes it is."said Zoey...

"No Argument here.." said Lem.

enjoying his food.

We were all glad to be here, in a Philadelphia suburb, nowhere near Lt. Tragg.

IV-

COURTROOM A- TUESDAY  MORNING 8 :45 AM,  Two Days Later....

Judge Tad Thornton presiding..

It was a little early, Lt. Tragg was there...With a pleased as punch look on his face... None of the attorneys were here yet....He had no idea who was going to be defending Todd Dellums. he thought it might be a Federal Public Defender... but then thought better of that... This wasn't a federal case.  He couldn't imagine a guy like him getting a regular Public Defender either.. He could afford better.

The Assistant District Attorney, Thelma Bell was brand new and being Brand New..she drew this case...

"VA VA VA VOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!" he said checking her out as she sat next to him.

Then his mouth dropped. He saw Olivia, Beverly and Todd Dellums flanked by Nelson, Myself, Josie and Bresha.

Todd Dellums had on a fresh new suit and had his hair cut inside the jail... He looked and smelled good, He smiled at his well wishers... as he and legal team took their seats...

ADA Thelma Bell took note.. "Wow...Olivia and Beverly...I've heard of them, I've followed them, Never thought I'd try a case against them....Wowwwwwwwww!" she said.

"I DON'T BELIEVE THIS!!  They faced off against him five times last year....They frustrated him...They're the last people I'd expect him to call... If he'd call Yvette and her snot nosed youngins I wouldn't have been too surprised...but THEM?? THEM??? I DON'T BELIEVE IT!!! I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!! ANY CASE,....ANY CONTROVERSIAL CASE...THEY WIND UP STICKING THEIR DAMN NOSES IN IT!!! ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" he grumbled to no one in particular..

He was livid! Absolutely livid.

ADA Thelma Bell argued that Assistant U.S. Attorney Todd Dellums murdered Randy Wiggins...She argued that he lured him to a warehouse early in the morning and shot and killed him...she said that due to the "Monstrous nature " of this crime...Attorney Dellums should be held without bail... She brought up that he had considerable resources...and was a flight risk.

Beverly and her aunt Olivia argued that Assistant U.S. Attorney was an officer of the court and had served the city and the Nation for a number of years and is one of the brightest shining lights among attorneys period....They argued that he was in no way...a flight risk and that he should be granted reasonable bail.

Bresha, Josie and Nelson  paraded six charactor witnesses a piece before the Judge and the court..They were Attorneys within the Federal system... Both Federal Public defenders and other Federal Prosecutors...

Beverly interviewed the last two...both Federal Judges...

Olivia interviewed an FBI agent who worked closely with Todd Dellums...Then she closed with an emotional plea for bail to be set,....

Judge Tad Thornton was impressed...He released Todd Dellums on his own recognizance...

A release on one’s own recognizance is entirely at the discretion of the judge and Judge Thornton, (who knows Todd Dellums personally) used his discretion to have Todd Thornton released without bail.

It was a major victory for us...One that we don't usually win...

Lt. Tragg was as red as a beet....

Olivia, Beverly, Nelson, Josie and Bresha didn't look his way, they hustled Todd out of the courtroom..

But Todd couldn't help glaring at Lt. Tragg and sneering as he and his legal team walked out of the courthouse...He was glad to be free...He took a deep breath of fresh air and smiled broadly..

"Thank You...Thank You guys.." he said.

He addressed the press..

"I am 100 percent innocent and I look forward to my day in court to fight these ridiculous charges brought on by a detective and I use that word loosely, who has a vendetta against me..He's been wrong several times before...He'll be wrong this time too!"said Todd.

''No Comment...We'll talk after trial." said Olivia.

"We'll Talk after trial." said Beverly....

Nelson and I pushed everyone away and tried to protect Josie and Bresha

by surrounding them as we slipped out of sight and jumped on the train...

Heading Home...

By the time Lt. Tragg got out of the courthouse....There was no sign of us.. He angrilly kicked a trash can until it dented...

He had really enjoyed having Dellums in jail and facing a murder charge...Now he was free again and being defended by Olivia and Beverly....He was furious...Couldn't he make one arrest that didn't involve them? Just one???
