''Passed out in some back alley somewhere." laughed Sofia.

''I heard that at one time he was a very good attorney." I said.

''Yeah I heard that too!" said Kahlil....

''He was... Then he started drinking and he hasn't been the same since..." said Ms. Yvette. Our second ADA here got romantically involved with a prominent and well heeled attorney James Renander, after law school...who I happen to know..... She lived as his fiance in California for three years...Something must have happened because she left and moved back to Philly and got a job in the District Attorney's office.  I think Renander was a guest lecturer at Yale when the alleged affair began...He must have waited around for her after she graduated and passed the bar." said Yvette, smiling wryly...

"I had a Law Professor who liked me.. He was cute too.....He liked Sofia too! But he was a stone dog."laughed Bee Bee.

"He sure was! He didn't know we were room-mates and sorors and that we talked...We had him for different classes and he was always trying to get me to stay after class, help him take materials back to his house.. He lived a few blocks from campus. I did once and he tried to kiss me and was groping me the entire ride there....I never went back again." said Sofia.

''Same here.. I went once, maybe twice and he did the same thing, Kissed me and groped me, that was it for me...I could see all he wanted... In the end...We both busted him....All he could do was laugh....." said Bee Bee.

"I remember him...He tried to make a move on a couple of young ladies."said Kahlil.

"It didn't end good for him...He got caught with somebody's wife and the woman's husband walked in on them and shot and killed him..It happened right after we all graduated." I said.

Ms Yvette began laughing hysterically....."I'm sorry....I know it's not funny.....but I can't stop laughing." she said as we all sat around the conference room table and smiled.

It was funny!

II-

Jade sat in Sam Mother's Diner....

She looked at some notes she had as she waited for her food to arrive. An Omelette, Hash browns, Bacon, Coffee and Orange Juice.

She was just starting to eat when "Mr. Warmth" himself, Lt. Tragg walked in...

"Jade...I hear you used to be a hot shot Homicide Detective back in Tokyo, but this is Philadelphia...My turf....Everybody I've interviewed about this case has told me  "I already told the Female Asian detective already."... Impersonating a police officer is a crime in this city." he said.

''So why haven't you been arrested?" asked Jade as she put a fork full of food in her mouth...

A Black couple within ear shot at the next table cracked up laughing...

Lt. Tragg was furious....He was thin skinned and hated being the butt of the joke.

''Sit down... I have something to share with you..." she said..   

He was shocked at actually being invited to sit down with Jade... They mutually despised each other.

"This ought to be good for a laugh." said Lt. Tragg with an arrogant smirk.

"YOU GOT THE WRONG GUY!!" she said.

"OH REALLY?" he said smiling... He expected her to say this.

"No you do... Look at this." she said and she pulled out some glossies....

"His name is Jason Seward...

She showed him a photo of one of the tallest buildings in the city...It was a few blocks from our old building...

"If you recall, last year, a month after we defended Olivia and Beverly in that big trial, when they got sued,  a man leaped to his death from the roof of this building." said Jade.

"Yeah, I remember that...A suicide...What has this got to do with this woman's murder?" asked Lt. Tragg.

"I'm going to tell you, if you'll give me a chance. " said Jade.  "That man's name was Justin Seward....the CFO of Home Goods Inc., died at a time when his company was experiencing severe losses in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic and this year’s substantial inflation, according to insiders. 

 Less than two weeks before, he was named in a federal class-action lawsuit concerning allegations of federal securities fraud, insider trading, and breach of fiduciary duty, court documents reviewed by The Independent show. The lawsuit comes as the company planned to close 150 of its 900 stores, along with a mass layoff affecting 20 per cent of its corporate staff. Mr Seward was cited in the suit along with activist investor  Ryan Kalua. 

 They were accused of collaborating in a “fraudulent scheme to artificially inflate the price of Home Goods Inc. publicly traded stock”. 

 The suit, filed in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia on 23 April last year, claimed that the pair provided “materially false statements regarding the financial condition and holding situation” of the home goods company for their financial benefit. 

The lead plaintiff is listed as investor Pen Chen Ling. Laying out the case against them, the suit states: “The defendants, knowing that the information they disclosed was false, took advantage of the inflated stock price and used fraudulent and misleading SEC filings to sell all their (HOME GOODS INC.) shares and options at artificially inflated prices to unsuspecting and innocent public investors and then retained control of the profits.” On 18 April, both Mr Seward and Mr Kalua sold shares of the company, with the former selling more than 42,000 shares for an estimated $1million, and the latter selling the entirety of his 9.8 per cent stake through his firm, RC&D Ventures. 

 Shares in the company then plummeted. According to the lawsuit, it is alleged that Mr Kalua, co-founder of Chewy Chewing Gun and chairman of Games We Play Computer Games, approached Mr Seward about his “pump and dump” scheme as early as March 2020, and “convinced Seward that their plan would be a "mutually beneficial one” from which they would profit handsomely by coordinating their share sales to optimise returns. 

Mr. Kalua copped a plea and was given 24 months (2 years) in Federal Prison and a 1.4 million dollar fine.

Mr. Seward leaped to his death....

The Attorney, The then Assistant U.S. Attorney who made the case at the time was ....wait for it.. Christine Lockhart.

The man who jumped off that roof was this man's twin brother... Justin Seward..

"His name is Jason Seward... He is the twin brother of Justin Seward.... He took his brother's suicide very hard...He blamed former U.S. Attorney Christine Lockhart for it and he called her constantly, yelling and screaming threats and obscenities...There are records of this. She found him outside her apartment.... She had a restraining order sworn out on him and she changed her phone number two times and moved three times to get away from him... Considering we saw this guy on the day of her death..I'd say that gives him a motive, more so of a motive than Frank Jerkins." said Jade.

Talking to Lt. Tragg was like talking to a brick wall...He folded his arms... Most of what she said went in one ear and out of the next....

"Nice Story, but I don't buy it!" he said.

"What? He's another suspect!!!!...He has a viable motive... Ms. Yvette and I and the others were in that Rooftop Bar and Grille that day....HE WAS THERE, just like our client... We don't deny that our client was inappropriate with Ms. Lockhart...but after she slapped him...He paid the tab and left...She left when we all left and this man...this man was there!!!" said Jade.

"Yeah? So what?" said Lt. Tragg.

"You know, when this goes to trial, you're going to look pretty foolish knowing I gave you a heads up, probably the only time I will ever share information with you and you didn't at least look into it." said Jade.

She had finished her food now and went to the counter to pay her bill..

Lt. Tragg watched her...She was a stunningly beautiful woman...Sexy ! With an alliruing walk and a sexy body....she smelled great....He had even gotten a slight erection while sitting with her... but he still had no plans to seek out this man or talk to him...As far as he was concerned...He had the right guy!

"He go for it?" asked Ms. Yvette

"No, not at all!" said Jade.

''Well, we tried." said Yvette.

Kahlil and I were in the media room. We had found Frank Jerkins car and had traced it the entire route from the bar to close to his home.. We cut and pasted our video and copied it..

We then got the copy of the ATM receipt and the time and an ATM photo of him, time and dated.

Sofia and Bee Bee were doing the necessary research of Laws that applied to the case, Predicates and similar cases.... 

The Big  wrongful conviction case was over... But Jetty Dukes was back in our building and our office again.

''Jetty the case wrapped yesterday.. Karen Page isn't even in today." said Virginia, who knew why he was here..

"Oh, she's uh not?  We were uh supposed to have an end of case report.." said Jetty nervously....

''Jetty...I was a lawyer once... Since when is there an "End of Case" report? If you wanted to see me just say so...You don't have to make up lame excuses....I'm sure you knew Karen Page was taking off today..." said Virginia, smiling devilishly...

"You're just too smart and sexy for me..." he admitted and took her into his arms...

and kissed her passionately.

''Ummmmmmmmmmmm Jetty, I like it when you come to see me." said Virginia.

"Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh and I like to come and see you..." he whispered...

After work, Jetty took a bunch of us to a Meat Market, about six blocks away from where we worked...

"You guys can get on the train afterwords...You'll thank me for this.." he said.

"Thanks for inviting us Mr. Dukes...We are going to feast on this tonight..." I said.

"We are coming back up here Saturday in the car... Ms. Olivia has a deep freezer in her basement..She'll let us store any extra, now that she had that cook out and cleared out all of her extra meat." said Bee Bee.

"You guys got a pretty good deal living across the street from Olivia..She's got a law library yall can research in , a deep freezer you can store extra food in...a Bus company that transports everybody to and fro.... They got a full service law practice huh?" joked Jetty...

"They serve the community well...We Love them." said Sofia.

"They're our friends." said Kahlil..

''And good friends to have..." laughed Jetty....He loved all of these young attorneys...

We all purchased as many good cuts of meat as we could..

"I take it you're cooking for Ms. Virginia tonight eh?" said Jessica Sanchez-Burrows.

"I am indeed." he said with a smile.

"You got any wine/?" asked Chip...

"Ahhh, thanks for reminding me...I'm going around the corner to grab a bottle.. I'll see you kids tomorrow...enjoy!" he said..

"THANKS!" we all said in unison as we walked towards the train station..

and headed home....

Inside a small dive bar near Penns Landing.. Frank Jerkins was entertaining another young lady....We had told him to keep a low profile....I guess this was as low as he could go...

"What Did you say your name was sugar?" he asked...

"You've been talking to me and feeling me up for an hour now and you're just getting around to that?" she laughed, removing his hands from under her skirt. "It's Connie....Connie Joy." she laughed..

Tequilla was being poured.. Frank had bought a bottle and the two of them had laughed and talked for close to three hours and finished the bottle...The second..

"I don't live that far from here... Why don't go to my place and get comfortable and have quiet conversation?" he asked.

"Yes, why don't we, before you rip my panties off...you've been tugging on them for the past hour.." she said....

He paid the tab and the two walked out of the bar hand and hand..

Jetty was down the other end of the bar...purchasing a bottle of wine to go..

He saw Frank Jerkins and the young lady exit... He laughed his head off..

At Frank's house....

"I was gonna ask you to carry me." he whispered and they both giggled.

"Mmmmmmmmm I've got a buzz, how about you? " whispered Josie to her husband, Paris.

"Yeah....I'm glad we came on that bus and nobody is driving home." laughed Paris.

Bresha and Tony were kissing passionately.....oblivious to everyone else..

As were  Alfreda and Rockland..

"Ummmmmmmmmmm I;m good and toasted." said Jazzy ,leaning her head into her husband's shoulders.

"Guys....it's Friday tomorrow...We are working remotely from Liv's office... 10:00 AM..." declared Ms. Yvette.

"Must be nice." said her husband, Gary....

"Oh wowww! We can sleep late.." I said.

"That means more time to make love." whispered Bee Bee in my ear.

"Good, because the way I'm drinking tonight...I won't be able to get up on time." said Sofia.

"We don't want to be like Denver Pyle do we?" joked Kahlil.

Jade cracked up laughing....

"Well I do have to work tomorrow, you all enjoy ." said Lt. Danny Ho.

"Look there is our client!" said Virginia noticing Frank Jerkins, who was with a woman.

"That's the woman from the night before ." said Jetty.

"My lawyers are over there amongst that crowd....I was on vacation in Florida recently with all of those nice people...We uh shared a hotel floor together." explained Frank to Connie.

"Ouuuuuuuuu you guys must have had fun..." she said...  Frank had his hands up her skirt, gently rubbing her legs and gently rubbing her behind...

She rewarded him with a soft slow kiss...

"Ummmmmmmm Frank , you're as hard as a baseball bat darlin.."she said...She was softly stroking the huge bulge in his trousers...and continuing to kiss him.....

"Everything seems to be going well for our client tonight." said Yvette.

Sitting by himself , drinking glasses of cold water was Jason Seward, the mysterious other man.

''Sofia, look who's sitting across the room." said Bee Bee, who spotted him first.

"Jason Seward....wowww, of all the times for him to rear his head." said Sofia.

"Yeah....I see him." I said.

"Ms. Jade, do you have the subpeona on you?" asked Kahlil.

"I always come prepared, especially after work." she smiled.

She went in her briefcase and produced it and then walked over to him... She sat down next to him..

"If you want me to buy you a drink....You have to agree to go home with me ." he said raffishly, checking Ms. Jade Out.

''Ouuuuuu aren't you presumptious...I'm here to give you something." she said, laughing.

''Well you're already giving me a huge erection!" he laughed.

''Well My husband is here and it would be safer for me to present you with this." said Ms. Jade.

"See you in court next week and uh calm down..." she said, smiling and walking away.

His erection quickly faded....He was livid... He saw she was sitting with a group of 26 people...He watched her the rest of the night....

and watched her and her friends all board two buses that pulled off headed to God knows where....

She was the least of his worries...He was summoned to appear in court as a hostile witness in the defense of Frank Jerkins, the man charged with murdering Christine Lockhart....

Every Dog has his day and now he was to have his.  In Court.
