 I have to hand it to Lt. Tragg...He is nothing if not consistant...He walked into a City Council Meeting where Attorney Benjamin Akers was presiding and arrested him, charging him with the  First Degree Murder of Bernice" Bunny "Johnson...

The Press was there in full force and took photos of him doing the perp walk as he was taken into custody...

Assistant District Attorney Janice Hankins called us immediately...

"Ms. Olivia...They got him...They arrested Benny just now from City Hall...during a City Council meeting, The Press was there and everything.." she said.

''Don't worry baby..We are on our way...." said Olivia..  "Beverly, get us a judge and an arraignment ASAP.."said Olivia..

"On it Auntay!" said Beverly...

"Josie, go with her...Make sure she gets us a good judge...Anybody but old Judge Crawford..."joke Olivia..

Josie cracked up laughing..

So did Beverly.....

The Rest of us headed to Central Booking.

At Central Booking in the Interrogation Room, nicknamed "The Fishbowl"by the Detectives,

Attorney Benjamin Akers sat, saying nothing....Stone Faced...

Lt. Tragg walked in .......

Lt. Tragg tossed the .40 caliber pistol on the table..

''Recognize that ? Of course you do....It's yours...Know where we found it?? In the dumpster behind the building you live in....It passed the ballistics test...This is definitely the murder weapon... You covered your trail pretty good fella... We found no fingerprints or DNA or yours in her apartment...Of the 20 some witnesses we interviewed , Not one person saw you....BUTTTT!!! The murder victim...Ms. Bunnie Johnson scrawled your name in her lipstick on the mirror...Probably the last thing she did before she died...Led us right to you.... Oh yeah , snatching her hard drive was cute...and trying to smash her phone with your foot , even cuter...but we managed to pull your calls off of her phone..You called her at Eight o'clock that night....After you sent her those flowers....We don't have a lot...but I'd say we have enough to charge you with MURDER ONE BUDDY!!! What have you got to say for yourself?? HUH??" bellowed Lt. Tragg...

Benny Akers looked at Lt. Tragg and smiled...Then he busted out laughing...

"You really are as big a jackass as they say.." he said..

"WHYYYYYYYY YOUUUUUUU!!!" snarled Lt. Tragg, for the second time nearly being drawn to violence..

"Play Nice Children!" said Olivia as she entered with Nelson and Bresha.. I was not with them..I chose to use now to view the crime scene.. I had stopped and picked up the Autopsy Report and the Crime Scene Report and photos...

"Olivia, thank God you're here, Long time no see eh?...How did you know?" asked Benny Akers..

"Let's just say you have a good friend in high places...Who gave us a call after your public arrest." said Olivia.

"Hi Benny, long time no see." said Nelson...

"Nelson East?? Heyyy Mann, So you're with Olivia now huh? Woww... Heard you got married.."said Benjamin Akers..

"I'm married to Olivia's niece, Beverly West...She and our other Associate are rounding up a judge for your arraignment... This is our new associate, Ms. Bresha Williams.."said Nelson..

"Pleased to meet you..." said Bresha..

"Likewise I'm sure..."said Benny "Uh Lt. Tragg...I'm meeting with my attorneys...This interview with you is uh OVER!" said Benjamin..

Lt. Tragg was livid beyond measure...He stomped his foot and stormed out of the room, slamming the door....

''Who tipped them off? It had to be someone in City Council...Had to be...And where is Donnie Ray?? Or Beverly or Josie??? " he pondered...

''Benny you just sit tight...We are going to get you out of here and then we are going to talk."said Olivia.

Beverly and Josie walked in just then...

''We got a Judge and an arraignment in less than an hour."said Beverly, smiling..

"And she got us a good Judge Liv." added Josie , smiling..

''Hi Bev...Long time no see..I didn't know you were Olivia's niece?  Small World..Your Aunt and I used to work together.." said Benjamin Akers

"Heyyy Benny! Yes, she told me yesterday...It is a small world." said Beverly, hugging him..

"Congratulations on you and Nelson 's marriage...I didn't know you two even knew each other." said Benny.

"Nelson and Beverly and I worked for many years in the Public Defenders Office... When I began my law firm, those were the two I wanted working with me the most...We've always worked well together..

And allow me to introduce our other Associate Attorney, Ms. Josie Boyd...She's been with Bev and I since we opened our doors.."said Olivia.

Josie smiled.

"You certainly keep beautiful women around you Olivia...Any other staff members I haven't met?" asked Benny..

"My Husband, Donnie Ray Alexander...He's our in house Investigator and he's working on your case as we speak.." said Olivia.

''Excellent...I feel better already..You got married again...Good For You!."said Benjamin..

Lt. Tragg peered through the window at them...He was livid...They seemed like old friends..They were going to lose this one...He was definitely guilty...he mused.

FORTY FIVE MINUTES LATER-

We were in Judge Martika Anderson's Courtroom....She was a good judge, A friend of ours..

Olivia smiled.. 

"My Girls, you done good.." she said, kissing Beverly and Josie on the cheek..

"Told You." laughed Beverly...

Josie smiled...

Benny sat between the girls and Nelson and Bresha..

"I have a good feeling about this session." said Nelson.

''We've had her before."said Bresha.

They brought in a Special Prosecutor....(Because no one on the D.A.'s staff wanted to work this case with Lt. Tragg being involved) His Name was Bert Bennett....He was said to be pretty good...

The arguments began.. Bert Bennett argued that this was a messy lovers spat that had gone wrong..He brought in three people who knew about Benny's pursuit of Ms. Johnson and of her spurning his advances continuously...

Bresha, Nelson and Beverly argued vehemently that were not arguing the particulars of the case here. Only that Mr. Akers was an officer of the court, Has a sterling public and private record and should be released on reasonable bail..

Olivia and Josie presented 27 charactor witnesses, 2 Judges and the rest attorneys who vouched for Benjamin's charactor and 12 civic leaders..

It was enough for Judge Anderson to release him on $3000.00 dollar bail..

Bresha wrote a check for $300.00 to the bailiff, who was always ogling her and smiling at her.. She smiled back at him and passed him the check...And they all walked out...

Lt. Tragg was furious...He couldn't believe it...This guy had just been arrested and in little over two hours, he was a free man..... It seemed like he himself could not win for losing..

The same Press that was there a few hours ago when he was arrested was there when Benjamin Akers was released.

"This was a rush to judgement....I welcome a trial so that the facts can come out and I will be fully exonerated." said Benjamin Akers to the press...

Olivia, Beverly, Nelson, Josie and Bree chose not to comment, only to smile and wave at the press..

II-

I was able to get a copy of the both the Autopsy Report and the Crime Scene Report and Photos without a subpeona.  Lt. Tragg makes getting these reports hard for attorneys purposely...but because I got it so fast and through a friend on the force got access to the crime scene..He was unable to block it.

I was in the living room where Bernice "Bunny" Johnson  was murdered...There was no sign of forced entry at all, so she obviously knew her assailant..

There were two glasses of a beverage poured...so she knew her assailant quite well...

She was shot in the back of the head...She never saw it coming...The bullet exited out of her right eye..This more than likely killed her instantly...She was dead before her body hit the ground.  Then the killer fired a second shot into her body....I suppose to make sure she was dead...

A mirror was 25 feet away...Where "BEN" was scrawled in lipstick...A lipstick tube that was never found.

The killer then stripped the laptop of it's hard drive and then smashed her phone with his foot.

Which means he or she was here after the two shots.. There is no way the murderer would have allowed her to scrawl that name on the mirror and just leave it there...She was already dead..It's simply impossible and improbable.

I was thinking the killer wore gloves because there were no fingerprints or DNA on anything except hers..

Several calls were made to her...One from Benjamin at 8:00 pm..  He had ordered a bouquet of flowers for her and paid for them..

But then there are several calls to an un identified number, which traces to a burner phone which were immediately after Benny's call.. The call lasted longer and was at 10:00 pm until 10:15 pm..and then nothing..

Her caller arrived around midnight...her time of death is listed as being from 12:15 am to 12:30 am...

Two witnesses said they heard two loud blasts around a little after midnight , then the sound of something breaking, then nothing..

The street cameras, the traffic cameras and the ATM camera across the street yielded nothing...So either the killer was someone who lived in this building and never left or he entered from the back door and came up the back stairs...

Finding the gun in the dumpster behind Benjamin Akers Building

was a real red herring...As a former Homicide Detective... We never get THAT lucky during a homicide..This was obviously planted there..This was a real good frame..but not that good..It was obvious..Too obvious and any detective other than Lt. Tragg would've seen that..

My phone rang...

"Hello" I said..

''Hi sexy" said Olivia..  ''We got Benny out on bail...We are headed to the dining room in Big Fed....It's the safest place to talk and away from Lt. Tragg, who is on a tear right now as you can imagine." she said.

"I'm finished here anyway...I'll meet you all there." I said.

We met at the dining hall in the federal courthouse...The place that was nicknamed  "BIG FED"

It was comfort food today...All of us had the meatloaf, mashed potatoes and peas and carrots today...

"Ummmph, this is good." said Nelson who was really chowing down..

''Are you enjoying yourself baby?" asked Beverly , teasingly...

"Yes indeed." said Nelson..

"Nelsonnnn, I know you're enjoying your food, but stop eating so fast , before you choke."said Josie,lovingly..She and nelson had a Big Brother, little sister relationship..

''You guys are soo much like a family..." said Bresha.

"You're family too Bree..You're our little sister." said Beverly, hugging her..

"Liv, Donnie Ray...They aren't going to find my prints or DNA in Bunny's apartment.. because I've never been in her apartment..I've dated her for two years and she  never invited me up."said Benny.

"Benny were you uh actually dating?  Did you two uh....I hate to ask you this..Were you two intimate?" asked Olivia.

"No...We went out for drinks a lot...I uh took her to a couple of concerts...At Josie's , Mulberry Street and a spot in Cherry Hill...We went out to dinner a few times and uh a few lunches...Once she let me take her to breakfast, early in the morning...but we never so much as shared a kiss..." said Benny, bowing his head in shame..

"And this went on for two years?? Benny...She never was that into you." said Beverly...

"You're An Attorney...Single, No Kids...You're a catch for a lot of lonely women out here...Why were you wasting your time with her?" asked Josie..

''Because that's what , who he wanted.."said Nelson, who understood..

Beverly looked at Nelson and realized he was talking about her...How he chased her the same way until she finally realized that she liked him too!

She kissed him slowly and softly...

"Benny, how much did you really know about  Bunny Johnson??  That's a pretty expensive condo she was living in...and a very,very nice car she drove and yet she didn't seem to have any visible means of support..She wasn't listed as working anywhere I can find.." I said.

"Somebody was paying her rent and her car note Benny...If it wasn't you then who?" asked Olivia.

"You know...she never did say what she did for a living, but she always seemed to have a lot of cash......I met her at the Mermaid Crab Tavern..

All of the lawyers and managers of uh my firm used to go there for drinks  after work on Fridays and she was always there..Like she was waiting for someone...Someone that never arrived..We struck up a friendship somewhat and we began dating...She just never wanted to take it any further...It seemed like she'd be high one week and we'd be going to lunch, dinner, drinks...maybe a show...Then the next few weeks she wouldn't have time for me.." said Benny...

"Let me tell you about her.." I said and I tossed some glossies out on the table..

I certainly could understand his obsession with her...

Somebody was her sugar daddy..." said Nelson..

"I checked her bank account..It's been closed and that car she was driving was leased..It's been returned. I tried to trace the bank account..It was in a pocket account that was rerouted to everybody's favorite spot, The Caymen Islands...under a phony name.."I said.

"You think she had something on somebody? Somebody powerful??" asked Josie..

"Or somebody married with something to lose.." said Olivia..

While we had been in court most of the morning and lunch most of the afternoon..

Our Office Manager Alfreda finished filing away our case files and tidying up the office , when the bell rang...It was her boyfriend, Assistant District Attorney, Rockland Cambridge.. he had brought lunch for both of them...

Two Italian Hoagies..

and two Coke's....

They ate lunch together in the conference room...

After they finished lunch, they wound up in the kitchen, kissing passionately..

"Ummmmmmmmmmmmm.." she moaned..

"Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Alfreddddda...I'm losing my mind." he moaned..

He didn't even ask...He opened her pants and marveled at her panties and bra ,

The Bell continued to ring and the bamming on the door continued..

It was Lt. Tragg...

"OPEN UP...I KNOW SOMEBODY IS IN THERE!!!" he bellowed..

Alfreda calmly opened the door..

''When are you going back on the Marine Boat or Out of town or something?" she asked.

"I need to talk to Olivia and Donnie Ray RIGHT NOW!!!!" he bellowed..

"They are not here...and anyway...if you don't have a warrant or a court order...You aint talkin to nobody.." said Alfreda.

"NOW LOOK!" said Lt. Tragg.

"NO YOU LOOK!! "said Assistant District Attorney, Rockland Cambridge.. "YOU ARE STILL ON A CEASE AND DESIST ORDER!! If you don't have a warrant or court summons, you have no right to even be here...Now I have your Captain's number on speed dial as well as the Deputy of Operations..Get the hell away from this office and don't come back...If I hear you did...Captain Cantrell and The Deputy Of Operations will have you in their office,."said Rockland.

Lt. Tragg angrilly got in his unmarked police car and sped off.,.,

Furious  as usual... He was gone for about five minutes when Olivia ,Beverly, Nelson and I walked in with Benny, Josie and Bree.

"Hi, we are back!" said Olivia..

"We had a pretty productive day.." I said..

''We got Benny arraigned and released." said Beverly,..

"And we are beginning to put together his defense." said Nelson..

''You guys are good, All of you..."said Benny.

''Why thank you...and we don't want you to worry about anything.."said Josie.

"How was it here Alfreda.?" asked Bresha.

"You all just missed Lt. Tragg...He demanded to see you Olivia and you, Donnie Ray..."said Alfreda.

"You know, it's bad enough he harasses us in Sam Mother's Diner...but now he's going to start coming to my home???...No he's not!" said Olivia, now angry herself.

"He probably knows I was at his crime scene."I said..

"Benny ,for your peace of mind...You need to find a Hotel or Motel, check in, using your real name..and stay there for a few days ." said Nelson..

Beverly passed him a Portal..

"You can use this Portal....We'll communicate with you through this." said Beverly.

Josie passed him a burner phone..

''All of your calls to us and us to you will be through this phone..Here is the number, don't lose that.."she said.

"And for purely legal reasons....You guys don't want to know what hotel I've checked into right away right?" said Benny...

"Now you're talking...You're thinking like a lawyer."said Olivia with a smile..

''Thank you guys for everything.. Have a good night.."said Benny as he left us...

IV-

He checked into a Hotel in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, right over the Bridge.....He had been settled in his room for an hour when there was a knock on his door..

Benny smiled..

"Heyyyy how did you find me?" he asked.

"I know you like this place...You stayed here before..I know Olivia and Beverly told you to check into a hotel under your own name...and stay out of sight...I'd of done the same thing if I was defense..I have done the same thing when I was defense.." laughed Assistant District Attorney Janice Hankins..

She had her briefcase and legal roller with her...She had just come from court...

"Rough Day at work today?" he asked..

"Nope...I won today... Making the only blemish on my otherwise spotless record...YOUR present defense attorneys..." laughed Janice..

"You like them...You respect them even though they beat you....You got them to represent me...I know it was you.....You're a good friend....You've been a good friend all this time and I've bent your ear with talk about Bunny...when all along...I should have been talking about you.." said Benny...

"Oh Benny, I'm your friend....Friends are there for each other..." said Janice..

They stared in each other's eyes...He took her into his arms and they kissed slowly and passionately..
