A Spell

MORNING IN PHILADELPHIA

We were all up and ready for Breakfast...

The smell of Pancakes wafted out of our window and down below..

Yes, Blueberry Pancakes, Hash Browns, Sausages, Fresh squeezed Orange Juice and Hot Coffee was being prepared by Olivia, Alfreda and I..

In no time,Nelson and Beverly were upstairs in our apartment..

"Liv, two reasons you got me to leave my old firm and come work for you... Beverly and the good food! Though I don't know if it's in that order.."laughed Nelson..

Beverly playfully punched him...

before he scooped her up into his arms and kissed her passionately..

Josie and Bresha came up and set themselves up at the table..

"Mmmmmm Delish!" said Josie..

''Best Law Firm in the world.." exclaimed Bresha, who was so happy to be a part of us..

"Well thank you." laughed Olivia..

As we all sat down and had breakfast...A peaceful breakfast devoid of Lt. Tragg..

"Today we have to finish up our initial defense...Benny hearing is tomorrow..We'll be communicating with him this morning through Portal...He has to establish an alibi.."said Olivia.

Beverly, Josie and Bresha were going to be looking at crime scene photos, going over witness statements and looking at the autopsy reports...

Nelson and Olivia were going to be going over the jury pool, that I had already vetted for them and determine what kind of juror they wanted for this trial..

Later , all five of them would be researching predicates, laws and like cases to use for references...and this afternoon, the mock trials...We had a big day planned...but most of all, We hoped Connie would stop by and give us information on Teddy Cross and Bobby Tomillson..That was the real draw...

Me? I was working on everything surrounding this case..The sequence of events that led to the murder, everything!  What was on that Hard drive? Where was the hard drive...Who stole Benny's gun? Why was her phone smashed?? And why frame Benny? All Questions I planned to have answered before I let Nelson and the girls go into court.

MORNING IN CHERRY HILL

"Mmmmmmmm, Benny I gotta goooooooo..." moaned Janice as she kissed Benjamin in the middle of the floor.

They had made sweet love throughout the night...All Night Long!

And early in to the morning... Janice was just about tapped out..

"Benny you 're on something..Viagra or Cialis...My goodness...." exclaimed Janice...

"No I'm not....I'm just turned on....by you!" he said..

She giggled...

''It's not that good." she said.

"You lyin to me.." he said..

She laughed out loud..

''We've got a few hours...One more quickie...before you get in the shower?"he pleaded, kssing her and running his hands deep into her panties..

Janice had made his stay in this hotel, very enjoyable...He made a mental note that when his  trial was over, He was going to take her out to  a very nice restaurant to celebrate and truly pay her back for being a good friend and being so good in bed..

Janice got dressed...

"I'll be back tonight...You get some rest...Your hearing is tomorrow..." she said..

"Yeah...the beginning of the end of this damn nightmare.." said Benjamin Akers..

He pulled Janice to him and kissed her passionately one last time, before she left. 

II-

Beverly walked out of our office with two tumblers of coffee..

She walked over to the unmarked police car and knocked on the window.. She smiled and passed the two plain clothes cops the coffee..

"Good Morning Gentlemen... Tell Lt. Tragg we said nice try...but Benjamin Akers will not be coming here today.." she said..

Both men thanked her for the coffee and they pulled off...

"Lieutenant, they made us...The only people we saw entering was Alfreda Johnson, the office manager, Josie Boyd and Bresha Williams , 

the other two attorneys who work there." said the plain clothes cop ,who wasn't driving..

"Damn it...What are they up to? I need a win with this case.." said Lt. Tragg, who didn't dare come near our place...Not after the warning Rockland had given him...He didn't want to be in any hot water with the Brass. "Alright, come in." he said.

We were taking nothing to chance...Nelson picked Connie up in front of her apartment and drove her to

our Office/Duplex.

She looked around...

''Wowww, nice set up you have here...and you rent the upstairs?" she asked.

''No, my husband, Donnie Ray and I live on the top floor..

And my niece and her husband, live on the floor below us." explained Olivia....

"Oh , Beverly is your niece, Donnie Ray is your husband and Nelson is Beverly's Husband.. A family affair..."said Connie..

'The rest of us just work here." said Josie.

Bresha and Alfreda just laughed...

Alfreda set out some pastries and hot coffee for everybody....

''Now, let's get down to cases...You have some information to share with us..You say the Hedge Fund Brothers were holding back on us yesterday." I said.

"Oh were they?  In addition to being the receptionist...I'm one of the book keepers...I've been there since they started the group...I had to put up with years of Teddy Cross, 

pinching my ass and feeling my legs and buttocks and running his slimy hands up my skirt before I ever advanced.. He was so bad at one point,I stopped wearing dresses and skirts.." said Connie.

''Isn't he married?" asked Bresha.

''Since when has that meant anything." said Josie.

"They're both married...And have two kids a piece, Live in very, very tony suburbs of Philadelphia, the Main Line to be exact." said Connie.

"Oh Myyyy!" said Olivia...

''Something tells me this is about to get juicy.." said Beverly..

who was sitting in her husband's lap ..Nelson had his arms around her waist...softly squeezing her..

""Bobby Tomillson and Teddy Cross have been friends since they were boys ,growing up in the suburbs..

Same Prep School, Same Hockey Team...both went to Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania and both worked for the Stock Exchange at one time until they started their Hedge Fund Group...

They both married Vassar girls, who came from families with long money, old money...Who basically financed their actions..

Country clubs, Golf, Vacations in Cancun, Brazil, Europe, Hawaii...you name it.. Their kids in the best prep school.. A new car every year...These guys were rolling along... Both are now Millionaires many times over....

Then she came... Bernice "Bunny" Johnson....There was nothing special about her to the rest of us.. And she started out as an Office Administrative Assistant....Both Bobby and Teddy were entranced by her exotic good looks...It was as if she cast a spell on them!!!!

Especially Bobby...

It was no secret that he took an interest in her that went far beyond the normal means...Soon she was Office Manager, after having only been there a year.

That Condo that she lived in.. It was his...He bought it...I have papers...These are copies of the original deed...He purchased that Condo in 2015, See, it says it right here..He and Teddy took girls there ....In 2019...The deed was purchased by this "Dummy company"and the morgtage was paid out of a "Pocket account with a phony name as you probably know...and rerouted through a bank in the Caymen Islands.. Bunny was no longer working for us..She started living there and soon a car was leased to her, every year from 2019 until she died through another dummy company, rerouted through the same bank in the Caymen Islands.. That was all done anonymously....but it was all Bobby Tomilson...

She was turning him on his head...His wife would call asking for him and me or one of the other girls in the secreatary pool would lie and say he was away on "business", when he was in South Philly,

Making crazy love to her..She weaved her spell on him mightily....Anything she wanted she got..While she was working for us...Anyone who crossed her, lost their job...she was both feared and hated by most of the staff.

"Look here are orders he took for roses to be delivered to his wife on these dates and to that condo to Bunny Johnson on seperate dates...

''She had his nose open" said Nelson..

''Just like I have yours open." whispered Beverly in his ear...She was still sitting on his lap..

'Yes you do..You always have!" Nelson freely admitted..

''Good to know..You've got mine open too!" she said and smiled sweetly at him..

"Most of us were disgusted by his fawning behavior towards Bunny...It was supposed to be a secret, but we all knew about it...It began before she quit....But Teddy, Teddy was also attracted to her..

He was also a secret late night visitor to her condo...

Apparentrly, he was also smitten by her...She had weaved her spell on him too!

and she allowed him to play...for  awhile..

He rewarded her with Trips to Las Vegas, Paris for Fashion Week, London, Ibiza for parties..et al...

But Bobby began to get suspicious...She broke it off with Teddy..After all Bobby put her in that Condo and payed for her car..  He was her bread and butter!" said Connie..

''Not to mention supplying her with a nice  fat bank account." said Olivia.

"Girlfriend was working it...and getting the most out of it."said Josie.

''I'll say she was..The Power of the panties!"said Bresha.

"Benny met her sometime during all this..He had no idea...Probably still doesn't that she was being kept by one of his bosses and the plaything of his other boss..He fell for her and fell for her hard..

"Taking her to Lunch, Expensive and fancy dinners...Buying her bouquets of flowers,Taking her to shows...et al...anything she wanted..She even drove his car to different places, without him...THat's how gone he was over her ..All this and he didn't get so much as a kiss in return..."

To her credit...She didn't lead him on...She spurned his advances...She told him time and time again that she didn't want a relationship with him, that she wasn't attracted to him...He just couldn't take a hint.."said Connie.

"Did Bobby and Teddy know about Benny's interest in Bunny?" I asked.

''Even if they did know, what could they do or say about it?"said Olivia.

"You're right...They both knew...They made private jokes about it in front of me..Neither one of them was willing to expose themselves as being her lover...and she couldn't expose herself either, that she was playing both ends..So they said nothing...Bunny spurned his advances so as to not  anger Bobby and thus risk being out of doors and out of wheels."said Connie.

"HAHAHAHAHAHAHA, I like that, out of doors and out of wheels"laughed Beverly...

"Here's where it gets cute!" said Connie who looked around..She went in her briefcase...She showed us copies of the books..

Josie looked them over..

"Somebody had their hand in the till." she said.

"Yes indeed and here is where it gets cute!  Teddy was becoming a stalker...He couldn't take it that Bunny wouldn't sleep with him anymore..He called constantly, He stopped by unannounced and he hired a Private Investigator , who snapped photos of her and Benny together. ..as well as her and Bobby on the nights he visited her. He threatened to tell Bobby everything unless she agreed to sleep with him again..

But she had something on him...This..He was a degenerate gambler and a bad Poker player...

He was into Eddie Lee for close to one million dollars... He embezzled one million dollars to pay off his debt... Eddie Lee then banned him from his game..For his own good..

So He went to Atlantic City and was close to 1 Million dollars in debt there..  He sold off some stock to pay his debt off in AC and then moved some more stocks to cover up the more than 2 million dollars he had taken of company money to pay off his gambling debts..

I'm the Book keeper...He couldn't hide any of this from me....I don't know...but I think somebody in our organization gave Bunny this information...and she possibly was using this as leverage ..Leverage to keep Teddy at bay and keep him from exposing her to Bobby...He was creative...More creative than Steven Speilberg, He kept a second set of books.. I came across this second set quite by accident. That's when I began digging and found out the real story. Even though she didn't work there anymore..She still held a lot of sway...Nobody dared cross her.. If she wanted something like a look at the books..It was afforded her.." said Connie.

"I think she was blackmailing Teddy...and I think he killed her..He is the only one who would have a real  reason to...She could end his marriage and if his partner found out he had been embezzling money to pay off his gambling debts...There goes his career..Not to mention if he found out he was diddling the same girl. This is good, but now I need more proof...This points me in the right direction though.. We can keep these documents right?" I said.

''Those are copies..You can keep them..This is my insurance policy, until I find a new job!" said Connie.

''Wow! Color Copies!" I said.

''Only the best."said Connie.

"Thank you...Thank you so much...For all of your help Connie." said Olivia.

"You go back to work tomorrow like nothing happened..Nelson and Beverly are going to take you to anywhere you want to be dropped off at..Leave out the back.."I said.

''Thank You Guys...I'm doing this for Benny...He's a good guy and I'd hate to see him go to prison for something I'm sure he didn't do. Those two don't care...He's just an expendable black man who works for them..." said Connie.

''I agree..He is a good guy..and we are going to do everything we can to keep him from going to prison." said Beverly..

''Yes... You just helped move that process along the way."said Nelson as they left out the back and got into his car ,which had tinted windows..

''Liv...Benny is on the Portal." said Bresha.

''Good, We are ready...You have our questions Josie.?" asked Olivia.

''I do." said Josie.

''Where are you going Donnie Ray?" asked Olivia.

"Chinatown" I said as I headed out the front door.

III-

I sat across the street in my car with tinted windows.. I observed everybody that came in and went out of Eddie Lee's restaurant....

Everybody knew that the upstairs was where his High staked Card  Game was played... Mostly Asian and Russian Gangsters played...a few Black High rollers played..

Teddy Cross entered..I snapped several photos of him... His gambling bug still had a hold of him..

Eddie Lee met him at the door..

"Go Home Teddy" He said.

"Awww come on Eddie..We are all square...I paid all my debts..." said Teddy...

'Trust me...I'm doing you a favor...There are guys here who don't want to play with you...Say you took too long to pay up..." said Eddie Lee.

"But I paid up didn't I ?" said Teddy....

"Okay Teddy....but know when to quit....I mean it.." said Eddie Lee..

"I feel lucky tonight..." said Teddy...

Eddie Lee sighed....

"Come In...Remember what I said.. I mean it." said Eddie Lee.

I snapped more photos of him...

FOUR HOURS LATER-

I returned with Nelson and the girls..Olivia and Beverly...

They wanted to play a little Poker.. They had money to waste...

"Usually a pleasure when you show up Donnie Ray...More of a pleasure when you bring your beautiful wife and equally beautiful niece. I take it you guys enjoyed your meal...?" asked Eddie Lee.

We had dined at his restaurant before coming up....

"Yes we did!  Everything was delicious as usual!  The girls would like to get into your game.." I said..

''Sure.."said Eddie Lee.

Both Olivia and Beverly got into a Poker Game that was just starting up..

Olivia was taught the fine game of Poker by her Father, Alvin Bennett

 and later her older brother, Beverly's father, Jimmy West....

Like everything else..She mastered it..She later taught her little niece, Beverly the art of the game ...Beverly ,like Olivia was a fast learner...

They both played well.. An Asian and a Russian were also in the game..along with a Black man...

Nelson and I didn't play..We were just there to make sure our girls were safe...We ordered drinks from the bar...and listened..

Teddy was still there..He was sweating..

One of Eddie Lee's men walked over to him...

"How much is he in for?" said Eddie Lee..

"Sixty Large" said the man..

''Shut him down..Shut him down now.."said Eddie Lee..

"Guys come on..Come onnnn...I'm on a roll, my luck is about to change...I can feel it.." said Teddy..

Nelson was  filming and recording the entire thing on his phone..

''How much you got?" asked Eddie Lee.

"I got 55 large...but that's all I got....Look, here's a solid Platnium Watch...It's worth a couple of thousand.. I swear...I'll have the rest in a week..I'm good for it..You know me mannn." said Teddy..

"I don't want your watch...or your jewelry...Give me 50 Large...NOW!!! I'll let you keep 5 large.. DON'T COME BACK!!! I MEAN IT!! GET OUT!!!" said Eddie Lee sternly..

Teddy reluctantly left..He was lucky to walk out with five grand on him...He was lucky to walk out...Eddie Lee kept things quiet in Chinatown...but he had goons who thought nothing of breaking an arm or leg to enforce his edicts.

"Cash Me out" said a very happy Beverly...She had won $25,000.00 , a lot more than she came to gamble with...

"Cash me out too!" said Olivia...She had won a little less, $15,000.00, which was $10.000.00 more than she came to play with..

"I like your wives...They know when to  quit...While they're ahead..." said Eddie Lee.

''And they win too!" joked Nelson..

"Good Night Eddie.." I said..

We certainly weren't acting like we had a preliminary hearing to go to in the morning.

We knew now that Teddy was skimming money to pay his gambling debts... My guess is that Bunny knew about it and was blackmailing him or at best using it as leverage to keep him from Blackmailing her..

It was a good theory...Now to prove it.

IV-

That night...after we returned home...

"Look at my little winner, won herself some monnnnnneyyyyy!" I said.,

"It's half yours.... I'm your wife...We are one.." said Olivia.

''NAh...You won that fair and square...I don't want to take that from you...Besides...I've already got my winnings.....YOU!" I said..

"Awwwwww" she said and kissed me passionately...

in the darkness of our bedroom....

"You'll say anything to get some." said Olivia..

"Did it work?" I asked.

"I think sooooo." she whispered..

I helped her slip off her dress and she slowly helped me out of my clothes...I continued to kiss her and squeeze her butt a little..
