Some Tuesdays

 TUESDAY MORNING!

 

 Ms Yvette took a disinfectant wipe and wiped a lipstick smudge off of Kevin's lapel and the side of his face. she didn't ask any questions or make any remarks..The last thing she wanted to do was embarrass him...

He smiled weakly and said "Thank you" to her..

Ms Yvette smiled and nodded..

"We've got our Charactor Witnesses all lined up for tonight and we have a court time of Eight O'Clock...

We are the first ones on..." said Ms. Yvette.

"Good... I'll call our Bail Bondsman just in case." I said.

"Did You read the Autopsy reports?" asked Bee Bee.

"I did, but there is nothing in them that can help or hurt us....It's standard." said Serendipity.

''She's right, I didn't see anything in them either of substance."said Sofia.

"I did see some inconsistancies in both witness statements."said Kahlil.

"That Gun was found in the trash can outside of George's house...It was wiped clean of prints and DNA naturally and Lieutenant Tragg was made aware of it by an anonymous tip.!" said Jade.

"The Good Old Anonymous tip." I said.

"The Anonymous tip helps him with most of his police work."said Kevin Collins...

Virginia whispered to Serendipity..

"You and him huh?" she said and smiled..

"Oh My Goddddddd Ms. Virginia..."exclaimed a happy Serendipity...

"That Good huh?  I saw your lipstick on his lapel and on the side of his face...Tee Hee." she laughed.

Across Town at the Law Offices of HARPER AND RICHARDS

A Bouquet  of Blue Roses arrived for Serendipity.

The day Before a Bouquet of Yellow Rosses arrived..

and the day before that a bouquet of red roses arrived..

All for Serendipity, who wasn't there... All from Assistant District Attorney Bruce Greene.

He called for her several times and was told she was not at the office that she was out working on a case. He even showed up there looking for her.

"Seren has really got this guy's nose open wide....Sending flowers, Calling her...My goodness." said Sonya,laughing as she ran water and placed yet another bouquet of roses in a glass vase.

"They do make the office look and smell nice ." she said.

He went to Olivia and Beverly's office-

''Sorry Bruce...We haven't seen Serendipity since her house warming party." said Olivia.

 

"I'm sure she's fine." said Donnie Ray.

"To tell you the truth...If I knew where she was...I wouldn't tell you."said Beverly, not hiding her disdain for the man.

"Cool it Honey Bun....We haven't seen her."said Nelson..

Neither Josie or Bresha said a word.

"Happy Hunting." said Alfreda.

As Bruce Greene left..

He went to the Bridge Building 

To the Wrongful Conviction /Conviction Integrity Unit..

"She's not here...Our case that she worked with us was finished two weeks ago."said Karen.

"She's moved on to bigger and better things."said Natalie, trying not to laugh...She knew that Serendipity was right upstairs in Yvette's office, but she wasn't about to tell..

"We haven't seen her since her housewarming party."said David, which wasn't true.. They had seen her this morning at breakfast..

"You have her number..Call her."added Brooke, trying not to laugh...

Bruce angrily stomped his foot and marched out...He didn't have time to do any further searching..He headed back to city hall.

II-

NIGHT COURT-

In Philadelphia, Night Court only operates two nights a week....Tuesday and Thursday, Tonight was Tuesday...and fortunately...We got an arraignment date of 8:00 pm. 

The Judge in this case would not be the Judge in the actual case....

Lt. Tragg was not there... Night court was too low profile for him...No witnesses...No media..and a bunch of  Judges  and ADA's who were mostly older Judges and ADA's about to retire...It was lightweight. It was in session from 7:00 pm- 10:00 pm Tuesdays and Thursdays...We were quite fortunate to get a date.

The ADA that did show up was not going to be the ADA that tried the case...He had only the basic out line of the case at hand... He basically wanted to go home...So he didn't really put up much of a fight.

We presented 15 charactor witnesses , all from the courthouse.

Bee Bee, Sofia, Kahlil and Serendipity presented these witnesses and got them to give testimony to our client, George Barry's sterling charactor.

The Fact that he was white and had no prior criminal record weighed heavily in his favor and we all knew it.

Ms. Yvette, and I and Kevin Collins argued brilliantly about George Barry being a camera man on a wildly popular TV show and having no prior criminal record and having ties to the community as well and not being a flight risk..

He was released on his own recognizance..without bail..and surprisingly without having to wear an ankle monitor..

"Have a Nice Night Vettie...Say Hello to Olivia when you see her." said our Bail Bondsman.

"I will, thank you for coming out." said Ms. Yvette.

She looked at us and smiled.. "Let's go get something to eat." she said.

B.L. was there...

"Great job guys as usual... George, you can stay with Karen and me..we have a guest room..."

"Thanks B.L. and Thank you Yvette, Keith, Beatrice, Sofia, Kahlil, Kevin and Serendipity....You guys are the best.." said George.

It was still early enough to go to a nice restaurant in our neighborhood. George and B.L. left and went to his house to get his things and to come back.

We went to our local Steak and Seafood joint and had dinner. It beat going to Sam Mother's Diner all the time.

 

 "I haven't been here in a few weeks, I love this place."said Yvette.

"OUUUUUUUUU I LOVE IT!  THIS IS MY FIRST TIME HERE!" said Serendipity...

"Mine too and I've been in this area for awhile." said Kevin Collins.

"Oh really? Where do you live Kevin?" I asked.

"Just a few blocks over...In that same apartment complex that your friend, Natika lives in." he said.

"Oh wow!  We never knew.."said Bee Bee.

"They have a great Hoagie and Steak shop on the ground floor of that building."said Sofia.

"Most days I grab my lunch from there."said Kevin with a smile.

"You're just a few blocks over from Serendipity."said Kahlil.

"Yes, How about that?" said Kevin, smiling sheepishly...

Serendipity smiled too and then laughed out loud...

Jade just smiled and shook her head...

Meanwhile , Bruce Greene sat outside Serendipity's house

with a Thermos of coffee...waiting for her to come home...She'd been off work for hours...Where could she be?  She couldn't be in court and she wouldn't be out clubbing on a Tuesday Night...He'd been to Josie's ,Aqua Bar, Stoleys and The No I.D. and neither she nor none of the crowd she was hanging with were there..They were all at home..Where could she be? Was she seeing another guy and so soon? he wondered.

III-

That night-

We had all come home after a successful night in Night Court and a nice meal at our local Steak and Seafood Joint.  Some us drunk or tipsy, all of us horny as hell. We were all settled down with our significant others.. What better way to spend a warm fall night than to be making love.?

"In the meanwhile, we are going to need you to keep a low profile. Staying with B.L. is a good idea." I said.

"Turn your phone off and disable the GPS... Here!  This is a Burner phone, write this number down and remember it.  When you contact us...Don't call our business phones or our private phones...You contact us by this phone and this number."said Bee Bee.

She passed him the phone.

"This is a Portal...So that you don't have to come here again unless we absolutely need you.. You can contact us on this and get a face to face report on the progress of your case." said Sofia passing it to him.

"WOW YOU GUYS DON'T PLAY!" said Serendipity , taking notes.

"You guys are pretty thorough." said George.

"That's the difference between winning a case and losing one."said Kahlil.

''Ms. Yvette has trained you guys well."said George.

Ms . Yvette smiled.. She had taught us from her victories and her failures...

Ms. Jade smiled.

So did Virginia, who could see how advanced we were as young attorneys compared to other attorneys our age.

We retreated to our cafeteria for lunch..

"Girrrrrl, you are glowing... You gave him some didn't you?" asked Jazzy,laughing

"Oh My God....Girrrl I feel like he GAVE ME SOME!" said Serendipity...

Lee laughed.. "That Good huh?

"Oh My God!!!!.....My legs are still shaking a little bit." said Serendipity.....

"That's the best kind.." laughed Kayla.

 

"What you gals whispering and giggling about?" asked Dabnis as he got his food.

"Just girl talk." said Kayla.

"They aint gonna tell you Dabnis." said her husband, Ray.

"The Sky is overcast...and I didn't bring an umbrella." said Jessica.

"You wanna pick up one after lunch...We don't have anything on our agenda.."said Chip.

"I'll go with you Jessie, I need one too!" said Karen..

"Yeah I'll go with you too!" said Nina.

"I'll come along too!" said Carlos.

"Dip, I'm happy for you...Just go slow, both of you.."said Natalie.

"We are trying to Natalie..It happened so fast for us.."said Serendipity.

"Bruce Greene came by our office looking for you...He was satisfied when we told him we hadn't seen you...Good thing he didn't venture upstairs." said David.

"He's been by my office...He's sent flowers to my office three days in a row and he's called me 256 times...I spent half of the morning, erasing messages."said Serendipity.

''Sooner or later you're going to have to face him and tell him it's over. He doesn't realize it is." said Brooke.

"If I've called someone 256 times and they haven't answered their phone or returned my calls and texts...I'd  get the message that that person isn't interested...He doesn't want to accept that reality."said Sean.

"I agree with Sean." said Zoey.

"So do I."said Lem.

"Wow!  I think he didn't get the point with me until I got married...and he saw it." said Renee.

"Oh My God, you mean I have to get married?" asked Serendipity...

"NO JUST TELL HIS ASS THAT YOU DON'T WANT ANYTHING TO DO WITH HIM AND THAT YOU HAVE A BOYFRIEND!   I WAS READY TO KNOCK HIM OUT AT YOUR HOUSEWARMING PARTY." said Tyrell, who was getting angrier by the minute..

"Will you calm down? He's no longer our problem." said Renee soothingly.

"Just tell him to hit the bricks."said Tony.

"Yeah!" said Paris.

 

 "Sarting tomorrow , Serendipity, you'll join Bee Bee and Sofia researching laws, predicaes and like cases as well as the crime scene reports and photos and witness statements." said Ms. Yvette.

"The Dull but very important work that an attorney must do to make a difference in a case."Serendipity said.

''Glad you understand.! And Kevin tomorrow you can join Keith and Kahlil in juror selection as well as looking at and breaking down witness statements." said Ms. Yvette.

"Right, I loved working with these guys before."said Kevin smiling.

"We'll get some snacks..It'll be fun."I said.

"We should get some snacks too Sofia." said Bee Bee.

"Good Idea." said Sofia.

"It'll be a long day...We'll miss lunch, but it'll be fun."said Kahlil.

"I'm going to get a ballistic report and go over that...Find out who is the owner of that gun and where it came from." said Jade.

"I'm going to help the girls." said Virginia.

Judge Jetty Dukes understood that Yvette was excellent at putting together a team and steering them in the right directions. She didn't have to do all of this herself, although she probably had  in the past when she was a young attorney.

As we ate, Bruce Greene walked into our cafeteria and spotted Serendipity...He stared at some of us.

"Hadn't seen her since her housewarming party eh? Liars!" he said.

Before things really got ugly, Ms. Yvette stepped in...

"Bruce, she's been working a case with us and we've been in court, She hasn't been here...They probably haven't seen her...." she explained...but it was like talking to a brick wall.

"Serendipity, you've not answered a single one of my phone calls or texts...." said Bruce Greene.

"I thought you'd take a hint..."she said.

"JUST A DAMN MINUTE!!" said Kevin Collins..

"WELLLLL LOOK WHO IT IS...MISTER COLLINS, WHAT HOLE DID YOU SLITGHER OUT FROM?" asked Bruce.

"Bruce...Bruce... I'm busy with a case as you can see...I want you to stop bothering me, stop sending me flowers and stop calling me..I don't want anything else to do with you....Please stop!  That's all I got to say." said Serendipity who sat down...

Bruce looked stunned. 

Jazzy smiled...
 

Dabnis snickered...

"Wonder if he got the message?" asked Lee.

" Probably not."said Kayla.

"He's calling us liars..I'm ready to pop him upside his head."said Ray...

''Well she told him in front of witnesses..."said Jessica.

"You know him, it doesn't matter to him." said Chip.

"No it doesn't matter to him."said Karen....

"Well she told him and that's that!" said Nina.

"I don't think he's accepted that."said Carlos.

''Me neither." said Natalie.

"Me Neither." said David.

"He's such a tool." said Brooke.

"You took the words out of my mouth."said Sean.

"Why doesn't he leave? Why is he still standing there?" asked Zoey.

"Serendipity this isn't over!  THIS CONVERSATION ISN'T OVER!" said Bruce Greene.

 "BRUCE IT IS OVER FOR RIGHT NOW! THESE ARE MY ATTORNEYS AND WE ARE WORKING ON A CASE...WE ARE LEAVING NOW!" said Ms. Yvette, as she motioned for us to leave the cafeteria.  We had all finished our meals.

"Thank you Ms. Yvette. Goodbye Bruce...Don't call me anymore...Don't send me anymore flowers...I mean it. Don't force me to take out a restraining order."said Serendipity.

"Thank you Ms. Yvette..Come on Serendipity,let's go.""said Kevin Collins, taking her by the hand.

"Let's get out of here and get back to work." I said.

"He's probably going to wait until we get off and try to follow Serendipity home."said Bee Bee.

''Well good luck with that...We are all leaving on the train...Serendipity and Kevin came in her car, which is in the parking lot." said Sofia.

"Hope he doesn't have that staked out."said Kahlil.

"Probably!"said Jade.

"He is such a pain in the ass." said Virginia.

"Aint he though?" said Jetty.

Bruce watched as we all filed out of our cafeteria....We hoped he wasn't around for dinner.
