"I DON'T BELIEVE IT!! THIS IS THE CASE THEY ARE WORKING ON? GEORGE BARRY???"

said Bruce Greene who was assigned to the case... "I'd love prosecuting this case and beating these guys, especially Kevin Collins...that snake...How did he get involved with Yvette Jones and company?" snarled Bruce Greene.

His Supervisor, Deputy District Attorney ,Lester Burke walked in with a young lady...

"Bruce this is Attorney Melody Cooper., She's new with the District Attorney's Office, but not new to prosecutions... She comes to us from Cherry Hill..

She'll be assisting you on this case." said Lester.

"Thank you, but I am perfectly capable of handling this case and these attorneys by myself...No disrespect to you Ms. Cooper." said Bruce Greene.

"That's Mrs. Cooper...I'm married." said Melody Cooper.

"I'm not asking or requesting you work together....I'm telling you, you two will be working together Bruce." said Lester.

Bruce Greene was as red as a beet...His hatred for Lester Burke grew with each coming day.

The Morning was overcast.....

and at our building-

Bee Bee, Sofia, Serendipity and Virginia were researching laws, predicates and like cases as well as the crime scene reports and photos and witness statements.

"This is the often boring and laborious tasks that we attorneys have to do that is seldom if ever seen on television.." said Bee Bee.

"Yeah but it pays off in court when we are prepared and we confound and confuse ADA's like Bruce Greene, who I hear is prosecuting this case." said Sofia.

"Thank you Ms. Virginia...your help has been invaluable."said Serendipity...

"I'm only too happy to help you guys." said Ms. Virginia.

Next door in our media room, Myself, Kahlil and Kevin Collins were busy in juror selection as well as looking at and breaking down witness statements.

"These witness statements are different...One says he was 6ft 3 and the other says he was 5'11 or 6 feet..." I said.

"One woman says he was wearing a tan jacket, while the other says he was wearing a shirt."said Kahlil.

"Neither says they saw a gun, One says she heard a scream then a gunshot....and the other heard the gunshot first and then a scream."said Kevin Collins.

"Take Five guys...We brought Snacks.."said Ms. Yvette...

They brought a row of hoagies...

and Cokes...

"It's really rainy outside..." said Ms. Yvette.

It was raining cats and dogs outside..

II-

While Yvette's team was working like a well oiled machine...Things were different for Bruce and Melody Cooper.

For one thing Bruce was not sharing information with her..

She had to delve into the case files herself when Bruce wasn't in the office..

"Have you talked to the Fiance?" she asked... She was studying the the crime scene reports and photos and witness statements.

"There was no reason to...He didn't have a motive and he was in the house."said Bruce.

"Of course he'd have a motive...Everyone involved has a motive....I've looked over the case files and the crime scene reports and photos...Two of the witnesses statements don't jive..One said she heard a shot first and then a scream and the other heard a scream and then a shot...Doesn't make sense...One described the assailant as about six foot three...the other said five eleven.....Our suspect is six feet even... One said he had on a tan jacket and the other said a white shirt...Now what was it? Lt. Tragg's investigation is sloppy...I've heard of him...A number of his investigations are half ass and sloppy.......A number of prosecutors do not want to work with him.... You should hire an independent investigator...

My husband is a P.I. and he's very good...."said Melody Cooper.

"Whether you know it or not...I have an 85% success rate...One of the highest in this damn office...I managed to get along quite well before you arrived and I will continue to do so..."said Bruce.

"I know that these attorneys...Olivia Bennett-Alexander, her niece Beverly West and their team

and Yvette Jones -Lockwood and her group who you're about to face...

Have handed you a number of defeats in court...

And one in particular , Kevin Collins gave you and Lt. Tragg a particularly ugly defeat a few years back....I've done my research." she said.

"These attorneys are smart...they come into court well prepared.....You might want to get an edge over them.." said Melody Cooper.

''And you might want to let me run my case the way I see fit.. I'm still the boss here."said Bruce.

("What an asshole") she thought to herself.. ("I'll be glad when this assignment is over!") she thought.

And meanwhile at our conference room...

"If you guys want to take five....Go ahead...You've been working hard today..."said Yvette.

"I brought my work out clothes , some body wash and lotion..I'm going upstairs to the gym." I said.

"I brought mine too...Come on...I'll join you."said Kahlil.

"I'm running over to the Fashion District...To grab an umbrella...Do you want one Ms. Yvette, Ms. Virginia.?" asked Bee Bee.

"Yes...I forgot mine too and it's storming outside.Thank You."said Yvette.

"Here's some money, grab me one too!" said Virginia.

"I'll go with you Bee....Say where is Serendipity? Where is Kevin for that matter.?" asked Sofia.

The answer was down the hall in a back hall...

''WE'D BETTER GET BACK BEFORE WE ARE MISSED." she said.

While back at our conference room.

"Jillian Dantly's fiance had broken up with his fiance... This is a photo of her. Millicent Hatcher..She's a Public Defender...Or she was.....

She took it very hard and they had several loud arguments in public.. A week before the murder, she and Jillian Dantly had a pretty bad Brou Ha Ha at a Rooftop Bar in Center City...It was witnessed by a lot of people.

On the night of the murder...She made a number of phone calls to this man...Ralph Meeker, He's six foot three..234 pounds... She defended him on a Manslaughter charge and got him off...She defended him a year later on an assault charge and again , got him off.... He's a recovering alcoholic...He's in AA...

She hadn't seen him in a year ,yet the night of the murder she mad three calls to him right before the murder and he made one call to her minutes after the murder... It could be nothing, but it looks strange."said Jade.

"Seems Like we should talk to both Ms. Hatcher and Mr. Beeker." said Yvette.

"Just what I was thinking." said Jade.

""White male , Age 47...Name is Ralph Meeker." said one CSI man...

"Cause of death, one gunshot wound to the head."said another CSI Man.

"Looks like he was playing Russian Roulette...There's the weapon." said Dr. Hazel Baylor..

From the amount of beers he drank...Looks like he was drunk.."said Dr. Marcy Martin....

"His name is Ralph Beeker.. We rousted him for Manslaughter two years ago...He beat the case...Then we rousted him for Assault with a deadly weapon...He beat that...Doesn't look like he beat this case.."said Homicide detectives.

"Shame , I needed to talk to him." said Jade.

"YOU NEEDED TO TALK TO HIM ABOUT WHAT?" asked Lt. Tragg.

"That's my business...Should have been yours. Good Night Lieutenant." said Jade.

"I hate P.I.'s...Alright boys wrap him up....Get him outta here.." said Lt. Tragg..

They put his body in a white body bag and strapped it to a gurney....

Outside it was raining heavily...

While in Curleys-

Bruce Greene sat alone, drowning his sorrows in beer after beer...Livid that Serendipity didn't want to see him again...and surprisingly, wondering why.

The Rain had subsided a little bit.

It had been quite a day......Quite a few days...We had got our client released on his own recognizance through Night Court and had begun the neccesary work needed to mount a credible defense.

We were all at home now...

"No you're not...You're soaking wet and you're coughing and sneezing all over the office...Go Home, Get some rest...Come back when you're feeling better."said Lester Burke.

"I said I'm fine!" said Bruce angrilly.

"I'M NOT ASKING YOU BRUCE, I'M TELLING YOU! GO HOME!" said Lester Burke.

Bruce angrilly stomped his foot and stormed out of the office...

Melody Cooper looked astounded...

Lester shrugged his shoulders and walked out of the office.
