The Scandal Of It All

 THREE DAYS LATER-

"I told you we had a casual relationship.. Yes we sometimes had sex...but we weren't lovers or anything like that...Just colleagues..." explained Radio host and Podcaster, Anna Collins who had met Lt. Tragg back at the apartment complex of her late Producer/Boss Cory Ruffin , who had been found shot to death in his bathtub three days before. She had endured three days of intense questioning by him , had willingly allowed herself to be fingerprinted and had given a DNA sample...She felt she had nothing to hide.

"Casual? We found a loaded condom in the waste basket....with your DNA on it as well as his...and some KY jelly on the bathroom sink that was purchased by you and has your fingerprints on it...You and Mr. Ruffin had sex.."said Lt. Tragg.

"DUHHH, NO SHIT SHERLOCK!!!!!!I JUST TOLD YOU WE DID!!!  Occassionally...but we weren't lovers...just kind of uh friends with benefits.." said Anna.

Lt. Tragg pulled open a drawer...

"Casual huh?  You had a drawer here, an underwear drawer....That sounds like more than just casual to ME! Sounds to me like you were an overnight guest occassionally." said Lt. Tragg, pulling the drawer open and showing her the panties and bras.

"Those aren't mine!!!!   I wasn't aware he had this drawer.....Those aren't mine....Those bras aren't my cup size...Those are not my panties....I didn't come here that often....I never even spent a night with him....I swear..." exclaimed Anna Collins..

"I'm afraid I don't believe you....You were caught on the street cam leaving here at about the estimated time of death..." said Lt. Tragg.

"Trust me...He was alive and well, very well when I left here." said Anna Collins.

"ANNA COLLINS!  You are under arrest for the murder of Corey Ruffin, you have the right to remain silent, anything and everything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law...You have a right to an attorney...if you can not afford one, which is highly unlikely...(Your HUSBAND is an attorney isn't he?)one will be provided for you....Do you understand these rights as I am reading them to you?" he said..

Talking to him was like talking to a brick wall, especially if you happened to be Black, Latina or a woman...He just wasn't hearing you.

She grabbed her phone from her purse..

"Allow me to call my attorneys."she said.

"Knock yourself out.." said Lt. Tragg...He had her handcuffed and walked out of the building after her call was through.

THE BRIDGE BUILDING-

We were eating breakfast...our conversation as we ate our breakfasts was brisk...lawyer talk..

 

 "Guys! We got a case...I told you one was coming...It's Anna, Anna Collins...She's been arrested and charged with first degree murder...right now!" said Yvette..

"MURDER!! HER??? WOWWWW! WHO?" I asked.

"I'm reading the news on my phone...It says she's been accused of murdering her longtime lover, a Producer at WZZT named Corey Ruffin.." said Bee Bee.

"WHAT?? LONGTIME LOVER?? ISN'T SHE MARRIED?" said Sofia.

"DAMNNNNNNN!" said Kahlil.

"Let's get to Central Booking and hear her story first....I'm sure this was a misunderstanding."said Jade.

"If Lt. Tragg arrested her, you know there is something fishy..."said Virginia..

"You'll be helping out in the big conference room today and tomorrow?" asked her husband, Judge Jetty Dukes.

"That's righttttttttt so no free feels for you!"laughed Virginia.

"The Peace was too good to be true...We've got a major litigation today..." said Jazzy..
 

''So do we..but ours is in the conference room downstairs." said Dabnis.

"I'm calling car service for us Jazzy..." said Kayla.

"Me and the guys will gather up the reports for the meeting...Yvette said we could borrow Virginia for the set up..." said Ray....

"We've got a case too....We'll be working with Karen and Wrongful Conviction/Conviction Integrity."said Jessica.

"Always a pleasure."said Chip...

"I'll arrange for you guys to meet your client at the prison tomorrow."said Karen.

"I'll call Olivia...We need to use one of her mini buses to go to the jailhouse.."said Natalie..

"Plus we'll be stopping by Cakeman Raven's Bakery for Bagels, Doughnuts and Pastries."said David.

"That's your favorite part isn't it David?" Laughed Brooke...."You wanna piggy back on this case hubby?" she asked Sean..

"Of course.." laughed Sean...

"This place is going to be pretty empty tomorrow..With us going to our litigation and others going to court."said Zoey..

"Yvette and the guys will be here." said Lem.

"We are taking car service to court." said Renee.

"I'll miss you." said her husband, Tyrell.

"I'll be in school." said Paris.

"And We'll be in the conference room...Big Day.." said Tony.

II-

POPULAR RADIO SHOW HOST AND PODCASTER, ANNA COLLINS ARRESTED , CHARGED IN MURDER OF LONGTIME LOVER, COREY RUFFIN!

It was all over the news media and the internet almost immediately....

Lt. Tragg gave an extensive press conference announcing the arrest and naturally  giving his theory that they had a "Lover's Spat." which lead to the murder...

Reading and watching all of this in the Philadelphia International Airport was Anna's husband, 

Corporate Attorney Jason Collins, who was livid.....

And meanwhile at the Interrogation Room known as "The Fishbowl" an equally angry Anna Collins sat

with Lt. Tragg.

"YOU DUMB SON OF A BITCH!!! YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT...You're all on television and in the newspapers talking about we had a lovers spat...Talking about he was my "Long time Lover." None of that is even close to the truth...You have no proof of that at all..and now you have just ruined my public image, my reputation everything.."screamed an irate Anna Collins..

"You shouldn't have committed murder. You ruined your own reputation by being a married woman and sleeping with your boss..." said a solemn Lt. Tragg....

"YOU DUMB SELF RIGHTEOUS KEYSTONE COP SON OF A BITCH!" screamed a totally livid

Anna Collins..

"Such language young lady." snickered Lt. Tragg.. 

 "That's enough Anna, don't say anymore....We are here now." said Ms. Yvette.

Bee Bee, Myself, Sofia, Kahlil and Jade, all stood behind her..

"We've got your back." I said.

"Oh Anna this is just horrible...but we are here to help." said Bee Bee.

''Don't worry." said Sofia.

"We've got your back."said Kahlil.

"But for now, don't say anything more...Don't even argue with this guy." added Jade.

"WELLLLLLLLL LOOK WHO'S HERE!!!  YVETE JONES AND HER SNOT NOSED YOUNGINS!!! Ya know...I was gonna place a bet whether it would be Olivia and company or you guys....Glad I didn't..My money was on Olivia..She and that crew of hers usually chase a controversial case.. YOU GUYS TOO! "said Lt. Tragg. 

 ''Well looks like we won the luck of the draw..." said Yvette.

''We are going to get you arraigned and released."I said.

''Sit tight and remember...not a word more." said Bee Bee.

''Sit tight and remember...not a word more. Especially not to him, not to guards, cops or anybody locked up with you." said Sofia.

"You graduated from law school...You know the drill." said Kahlil.

"Yeah." agreed Jade..

"You graduated from Law School? I didn't know you were a lawyer." said Lt. Tragg.

"I'm not! I graduated...I didn't take the bar exam..." said Anna ,slightly exaggerating..

"Maybe you should have."snickered Lt. Tragg, who hadn't left the room while we attempted to talk to our client.

"AND MAYBE YOU SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN A PERSONALITY!" said Anna..

We all burst into loud gales of laughter......

Much to thin skinned and easily offended Lt. Tragg's chagrin...He was beet red as we all marched out of the "Fishbowl"

III-

NIGHT COURT-

In Philadelphia, Night Court only operates two nights a week....Tuesday and Thursday, Tonight was Thursday...and fortunately...we got an arraignment date of 8:00 pm. 

The Judge in this case would not be the Judge in the actual case....

The ADA that did show up was not going to be the ADA that tried the case...He had only the basic out line of the case at hand... He basically wanted to go home...So he didn't really put up much of a fight.

Yvette stood with Anna Connor, who was totally humiliated.. She had never been in Night Court or any kind of courtroom before.. She had never heard of it and had never in her life dreamed of being a criminal defendant, accused of a crime..

This was a truly humbling experience for her.. 

She truly hated the situation she found herself in..

Jade could only find five charactor witnesses to vouch for Anna Collins charactor and only four showed up. They were all from the radio station...WZZT-FM

Her Having no priors and her being a celebrity...A popular, Radio and Podcast host helped her  immensely...She was released on her own recognizance. Without bail as we expected.

Lt. Tragg was not there... Night court was too low profile for him...No witnesses...No media..and a bunch of  Judges  and ADA's who were mostly older Judges and ADA's about to retire...It was lightweight. It was in session from 7:00 pm- 10:00 pm Tuesdays and Thursdays...We were quite fortunate to get a date.

Out in the courtroom waiting area... Anna Collins was contrite and very grateful..

"Yvette, Keith, Beatrice, Sofia, Kahlil, Jade...Thank you....Thank you sooo much...This was the worst experience of my life..." she said.

"We are going to get you out of this...but I must tell you the deck is stacked against you."said Ms. Yvette.

"They got your DNA and fingerprints all over that place . some KY Jelly belonging to you and a loaded condom with your DNA in it.." I said.

''Well we can discuss this later, I imagine you need some food and some hot coffee and you need to go home and get a hot shower and some sleep."said Bee Bee.

"Yeah come on....Sam Mother's is still open...Let's walk over there."said Sofia.

"Well Jade , I imagine you've got your work cut out for you."said Kahlil.

"I sure do." said Jade.

"Hi guys..." said Olivia..who had come down....

"Livy, how long has it been? You look great as usual..." said Anna Collins..

You're going to be staying with me in the sub-basement apartment of my Office /Duplex.....My law Office is there and My niece and her husband live a floor above and my husband and I live a floor above that...You'll be comfortable...There is a nice big bed, there is a shower and bathroom and we have a 48 inch TV with a soundboard, cable and streaming stations..and central air...and in the morning, you can join me  and my staff upstairs for a nice hot breakfast.." said Olivia.

''Sounds like a plan to me.." said Anna.

"First we are going to go to your place...You're going to pack an overnight bag...maybe two overnight bags...Then we'll get you something to eat...I know an all night diner, close to where Olivia and  I live...

and then we'll get you settled at Liv's place." said Yvette.

"My girls.....Thank you." said Anna.

We exited the courthouse and headed for Anna's place and then the all night diner.

A few hours later.....Ms. Yvette arrived at home where Gary, her husband awaited her..

"You get Anna situated?" he asked..

He passed Yvette a couple of her organic Orange Tea..

"Yeah we had a late supper at that All Night Diner by Stoleys, then we went by her place and she packed two overnight bags and she is all set up at Olivia's place...We left a message for her husband...

I don't know where Jason is...He was supposed to be coming in today...but there was no indication that he had been home at all..He was welcome to stay with her at Liv's place." said Yvette.

''Well he'll get the message when he gets in." said Gary...

"I'm getting a message from you.." whispered Yvette giggling as she reached inside his bathrobe and fondled his engorged , erect penis and stroked it softly....

Our old office suite was closed....The lights were off and the doors were locked...I wonder what he would do when someone finally took over that space?

He waited there for two hours when he finally realized we weren't coming....He jumped up and down and stomped his foot and stormed off....

While in our conference room., miles away at the Bridge Building....We were interviewing Anna ourselves...

She had had a restful sleep at Olivia's place and had met us in the morning and traveled to our building with us...

"You should have never submitted to a DNA test without counsel present...You're a law school graduate Anna, you know that....And you did not have to go back to that apartment with Lt. Tragg, especially since you weren't charged with anything." chided Yvette.

"I know...I was co-operating because I Had nothing to hide...He had a drawer in his apartment that I knew nothing about...A Panty drawer with ladies panties and bras....They weren't mine." said Anna.

"Which means he has a girlfriend...Someone closer than you two, who sleeps over.." I said.

ONE WEEK LATER-

Naturally Anna kept a low profile... Stayed in Olivia and Beverly's sub-basement and had all of her meals there with them...She communicated with us through the Portal and  Burner phone as she was told. "This is our neighborhood...We all live walking distance from here." I said.

"He might come in here looking for her..but he wouldn't feel comfortable in here." said Bee Bee..

"Not at all and these folk would make him feel real uncomfortable real quick." said Sofia.

"Good because he makes me uncomfortable all the time." said Kahlil.

"Yeah they would."said Jade.

"His own detectives come here to get away from him and I am one of them."laughed Danny Ho..

Virginia laughed. "I hear that." she said.

"I sure hope he doesn't come up in here.." said Jetty...

"Next time we all go out ,let's go to Cherry Hill, at least it's out of the city." said Olivia.

 

"One man....One man causes all this confusion and consternation.." said Donnie Ray.

"I know....It's crazy..."said Beverly...

"He'll be pounding on doors sooner or later.."said Nelson.

"Just don't pound on mine."said Josie.

''We got the Sherrrif on speed dial." said Paris.

"And it's time we use it." said Bresha.

"Yeah...because I'll certainly use it if I see him in the neighborhood tonight."said Tony...

"Me too."said Alfreda.

Her husband, Rockland just laughed..

It wasn't Curley's Couples Night...but it was good enough...There was plenty to drink, plus Fried Chicken and a Shrimp Basket and everybody felt cozy and comfortable.

"This is amazing...all you guys live in the same neighborhood, most of you work in the same building and you all hang out together.. I love it.. Amazing!" said Anna.

"We all worked together on different cases before we worked in the same building or lived on the same street....I've known Liv, Beverly, Kayla, Natalie and Renee my whole life practically...They're family..."said Jazzy.
 

''And I worked closely with Olivia and her team and Yvette and her team many times over the years and Jazzy and I were very good friends before we fell in love and got married." said Dabnis.

"As you know, Olivia and Beverly are my cousins..We are family and I've known Jaz Ma Taz, Natalie and Renee all my life..we went to school together..College and Law School." said Kayla.

"And me.. I just came along for the ride." joked Ray.....

"We met and worked with Yvette and her team first and through her we met everybody else."said Jessica.

"Kinda like a package deal." said her husband, Chip...

"Karen, All of us, you ,me, Olivia and Vettie graduated from Law school together...but Tony Hopkins didn't...I hear he passed the bar recently though and he married Sharon Harris, who he chased throughout law school."laughed Anna.

"He became a detective on an elite unit and ADA Keith Wallace got him back in law school..where he finished his final year in an accelerated program and with help from Dabnis...He passed the bar..."said Karen...

"Our whole crew did alright...That's good.I'm the only one who didn't pass the bar..." said Anna.,

"Anna, I'm an Attorney...as well as TV show host and Podcaster...I could help you study for the bar and pass it." said Karen's husband, B.L.

"I never knew you were an Attorney....I watch your show HARD BOTTOM all the time...I should have figured it out.."laughed Anna.

"With all of these attorneys around here you definitely shouldn't have a problem, studying for and passing the bar." said Natalie.

"You know what they say....Third time is the charm." said David.

"Lat us know when you're ready...Any of us can pitch in."said Brooke.

"Sure." said her husband Sean.

"I may have to....My Broadcast career may be over after this scandal."said Anna.

"Aww don't say that...You've got great defense attorneys."said Zoey...

"Yeah...they'll get you off." said Lem.

"Hey Anna isn't that your husband, Jason over there.?" said Renee, who knew him from another case.

''Where?" she said.

"Over there." pointed Renee's husband, Tyrell...

Attorney Jason Collins had been standing in a corner , drinking..

Strange he had his legal briefcase and roller with him...

Anna walked over to him...

"Well Hello Stanger...When did you get back in town? You won't believe what I've been through...

I'll tell you all about it tonight at Liv's...You did get my message didn't you?" asked Anna.

"I got your message...I have no intention of staying at Liv's with you ." he said..  He went in his briefcase..

"I didn't expect to see you tonight..but I was prepared just in case...These are divorce papers...Read the terms and sign your copy....You're a law school graduate...You should understand them , even if you didn't pass the bar twice." he snarled.

"That wasn't very nice Jason." said Anna.

"SLEEPING WITH THAT CLOWN BEHIND MY BACK WAS NOT VERY NICE EITHER TRAMP!

I DON'T KNOW IF YOU KILLED HIM OR NOT...BUT WHATEVER, YOU GOT WHAT YOU DESERVED.." HE SAID ICILY....

"JASON PLEASE"she said and grabbed his arm.

He hauled off and punched her in her eye...knocking her down...He then quickly exited the club..

The crowd gasped....

"Oh My God!!!!!...I can't believe he did that." said Yvette helping Anna to her feet...

"Let me see if Gus has a cold compact for her eye."said Olivia.

"I'll go after  him, he couldn't have gotten far." said Gary..

"I'll go with you." said Donnie Ray.

"No...No...Let him go...I deserved that." said Anna.
