THE AFTERNOON BEFORE TRIAL BEGINS!

Kahlil and I usually picked the jurors...but this time ,because of the closed jury circumstances.. Ms. Yvette went up against Todd.

Ms. Yvette was on her game.. Todd was still seething about the fight he'd been in with Lt. Tragg,He was off his game.. Ms. Yvette got 11 out of the 12 jurors we wanted in a courtroom closed to the public...

Only the jurors picked knew who they were and tomorrow or whenever the trial began....They would all be sitting in a room with closed circuit Television, anonymous.

" I'm sorry guys...but I had to take over....It's not that I didn't have faith in you."said Ms. Yvette..

"That's okay...We got the jury we wanted...That's all that mattered." I said.

"Yes..We got the jury we wanted."said Bee Bee.

"And Nobody outside of us, The Judge and Todd Dellums knows their identities." said Sofia.

"Wow this is rough...I've never been in a trial like this." said Kahlil.

"Reminds me of the Yakuza trials in Japan." said Jade as we left.

"Wowwwww My Brother caused all this trouble and he hasn't even been here...Wowwwwwww!"said

Alma.

"His reputation precedes him dear..."said Ms. Yvette. "Come on..Let's get out of here and go home." she said as we filed out of court.

"What are you doing tonight Ms. Yvette...I could go for some cold ones." I said.

"Nah, not me..It's cold out...I'm going home and snuggle up with my husband...Something you guys should do...I'm sure it's not hard for you....Stay loose...We got trial tomorrow..."said Ms. Yvette as we headed for the train..

"That's a good idea Ms. Yvette... No drinks until we win." said Bee Bee.

"Hey Bee....I'm gonna fix a little dinner...and I got a fresh deck of cards...You and Keith are invited if you like. Jessie and Chip are coming over."said Sofia.

"It'll be a good time.."said Kahlil.

"That sounds good...You down babe?" Bee Bee asked me..

"Yeah...that sounds good.." I said.

"You guys have fun....I'm catching an UBER....I've got some more digging to do regarding this case."said Jade. "See ya in the morning.." she said..

"Jade is our MVP....without her, we don't win half of our cases."mused Kahlil.

"You're right about that."said Bee Bee.

"Like Ms. Yvette told us...An Investigator is an Attorney's best friend." said Sofia.

"Wonder what Ms. Virginia is up to tonight?" I asked.

"Don't even think about calling her... Jetty is over the moon about her accepting his marriage proposal and that means, he's staring down at her, if you know what I mean and I think you do." she said..

We were imagining the going's on in her apartment right now..

"Jetty!! You're staring at me like you want to rip my clothes off."said Ms. Virginia.

"Oh I would never do that...You pay good money for your clothes....Hey by the way have your breasts gotten larger?" he asked..

"No Smarty, they haven't!" laughed Virginia..

"Well uh let me uh see...." he asked slyly and lifted her blouse up and off and began kissing her..

"LAWD!!" he mumbled as they made sweet love.. He was deeply in love in a way he had never been before...

We all imagined what was going on in her apartment right now...

"If the walls of that apartment building could talk....You and I steamed up the windows in there enough when Sofia and I lived there." said Bee Bee to me...

Every Saturday Afternoon once we started going together...We'd spend hours in her room with the door locked, making sweet love.

"And I imagine you and Kahlil steamed up some windows in there too!" said Ms. Yvette.

"We sure did...but mostly in his upstairs apartment.." remembered Sofia..

"Yeah....the walls in that building could tell some stories." said Kahlil smiling...remembering him and Sofia not being able to wait until they got to his apartment one night

and doing it in the back stairwell. They were lucky they didn't get caught.

We all laughed at our memories as we got on the train and headed home..

After we got home...We drove to the supermarket..... The four of us loved this area...Basically a newly developed area with new homes, apartments and lofts, public transportation at our disposal and three shopping centers, a movie theatre and three or four nice clubs...Not only that...We had made friends, good friends who all lived on our block or close to us...

"My parents worried about me living way up here, so far from everything...But when she and my dad and my tia visited me and you , saw our homes and met our friends she felt a lot better."said Sofia as she and Bee Bee picked up items...

"Yeah my Parents felt the same way until they came up here... They were glad that Ms. Yvette, who they love lived down the street and Ms. Olivia, who they also met lived across the street.."Someone to watch you young people, keep you straight." they said..

Both girls laughed as they shopped.

Kahlil and I were picking up extra groceries ,not related to tonight's dinner..

"Man, I bet if this woman, Alma. I'm talking about , agreed to turn in states evidence against her brother..The Feds would drop all charges...THEY DON'T WANT HER...THEY KNOW SHE'S NOT INVOLVED...THEY WANT HIM...THEY WANT LONNIE....This is a dog and pony show..You know it homeslice and I know it." I said.

"I know....You right...but she's never going to flip on her brother...He's family...and you know that too!" said Kahlil. He was after all right.

We went home...After Bee Bee and I put our groceries away...We walked next door to Sofia and Kahlil's house..

Jessica was there..... Sofia had given her the keys before we left so she could let herself in and she had a pot of hot water started....

She and Sofia and Bee Bee fixed a Lemon Pepper Chicken dish...

They made Linguine with white wine and herb sauce...

Chip , Jessica's husband came by with the perfect topper...White White.

"Trust me... I know you guys drink a lot of Red Wines...but this white wine is perfect for this meal." he said.

"You'll get no argument from me homie!" said Kahlil.

"Nor me either." I said.

The six of us had a delicious meal and good wine...

Alexa played some classic 90's and early 2000's hip hop....

"How is your case going?" asked Jessica in between bites of food.

"It's going...It should be simple but it's not.... Our client, a school teacher with a spotless record, Teaches first and second grade and special needs students, has an A-1 rating in every school she's been in...No criminal record whatsoever... is busted by the DEA....They find 20 kilos of H. hidden under her porch during a playdate for her 11 year old son.."said Sofia.

''She has no idea how it got there right?" said Chip, enjoying his food immensely..

"Well, it doesn't seem like she does.. We believe her....."said Kahlil.

"Here's where it gets cute...Her older brother is Leon "Lonnie" Johnson, major bad news....Big time West Philly Drug Kingpin...He wasn't at the party....but I'm guessing that was his stuff..."said Bee Bee.

"The Party Planner, The Caterer, Two Ton Tony Watkins was at the party....I'm guessing he stashed it there and he was executed for that reason....but we have no proof.." I said.

"That's your story, that's what you run on...."said Chip..

"Sounds to me like he was stealing from the boss.." said Jessica.

''Why hide it there? Why set up his sister?" asked Bee Bee.

"Yeah why do that?" asked Sofia.

"Because if she is as clean as you say...Where better? It's safe...but it seems to me..like the FEDS already knew all of this... I bet if this woman, Your client. I'm talking about , agreed to turn in states evidence against her brother..The Feds would drop all charges...THEY DON'T WANT HER...THEY KNOW SHE'S NOT INVOLVED...THEY WANT HIM...THEY WANT LONNIE....This is a dog and pony show." said Jessica.

"That's exactly what I was telling Kahlil in the supermarket." I said.

"And I said..She'll never flip...because that's her brother...The only family she's got." said Kahlil..

'You could be right, but you know I'm right too...Kahlil, you, Bee Bee, Sofia and I come from the neighborhood that produced..Minolo Senterro, Mickey Lolo, Valdez Dias and Manny Spain, all big time drug kingpins...You know how they operate in that world..You don't steal from the boss....It's no different anywhere else." said Jessica.

It was a sobering thought as we finished our meal and drank our wine..

Another Day was coming to an end...

III-

In Curley's Bar....Jade is having a meeting with one of two people..

"Thank you Bonnie for meeting with me on such short notice..."said Jade...

Bonnie Shay was an Attorney, a former Public Defender, former Assistant District Attorney, who in addition was now an Insurance Investigator for a major Insurance Company...Among her other talents...She was an I.T. specialist...

"Oh no problem Jade, We are kind of like in the same business." said Bonnie..

"This zip drive has the actual anonymous tip that was phoned to the DEA......Don't ask me how I came upon this."said Bonnie , smiling.

"But of course not." said Jade, laughing... The two women understood each other quite well...

"You were correct...The call came from a cell phone at Alma Johnson's house, during the party....We analyzed the voice on the phone... It is her SON!!!!! Her 11 year old son... He called from a burner phone lying around the house...and he used a voice scrambling ap....Apparently this little boy is very tech savy as most kids are now of days... I analyzed the recording and I got a voice print from the little boy...All of us have a unique voice that is ours and ours alone...I compared the voice print to the voice on the recording....Despite him using a voice scrambling ap...He couldn't hide his voice.. That is definitely him...Her son... I think he was trying to protect his mother....I don't think he was trying to get her in trouble..He saw who planted the drugs...Where is he now?" asked Bonnie.

''With his aunt....Alma's cousin...I'm going to see if I can interview him soon." said Jade.

''As an Attorney myself, I know that that can be a slippery slope." said Bonnie.

"So do you ever try cases? Represent clients?/" asked Jade.

"I represent the company,along with my husband in Litigations...but that's mostly in board rooms, not in the courtroom....I was in court enough as a Public Defender and Assistant District Attorney." said Bonnie.

as their drinks arrived.

Lt. Tragg walked in... Like Todd, he looked like hell, Two black eyes, nearly swollen shut...a swollen lip...and discolored cheeks... He saw Jade and walked over to her and Bonnie.

"WHAT WAS THAT YOU SLIPPED INTO YOUR PURSE? I saw you!" he asked.

''WHY? It doesn't concern you at all." said Jade.

"THAT'S NOT WHAT I ASKED YOU....IT WAS A ZIP DRIVE...NOW I WANT TO KNOW WHAT WAS ON IT!" he bellowed.

"It has nothing to do with you whatsoever.....I am not going in my purse and I'm not saying what it is...Now get away from our table and leave us alone." said Jade...

Bonnie smiled.

"HOW BOUT IF I TAKE YOU BOTH DOWNTOWN TO CENTRAL BOOKING?" bellowed Lt. Tragg.

"You know you 're not going to do that.....You know you have no grounds...Now why don't you run along and leave us alone...This is why your face looks like it does...You don't know how to back off."said Jade.

Bonnie cracked up laughing...

That stung! Lt. Tragg knew he had no grounds to arrest either one of them or search Jade's purse....and what's more, he knew they knew it.. He then went to his usual tripe..

"I hope you won't be driving...All this drinking you two are doing." he snarled..

''What are you a traffic cop now? I thought you were Homicide."said Bonnie.

"He's getting prepared for his next career move..."said Jade.

Both women cracked up laughing....

The hair on his neck rose...Lt. Tragg was livid! It was obvious he was getting nowhere here..He stomped his foot and walked off to the bar ..He was obviously getting nowhere with either of these women.

After Dinner...we all decided to chill out at our homes... What better way to spend a cold Fall afternoon than to be making love...

Bee Bee was wearing another sheer see through Baby doll.....She had just taken a hot shower and walked into our bedroom..

My eyes popped out of my head..

She giggled..

"Oh my goddd..look at you...Are you going to act like this all the time?..WOW!!! That boner is massive." she said and put her hands over her mouth..

I pulled her towards me...Is this something you bought at Bridget's store the other day?" I asked.

A nice dinner at Sofia's house with friends and now this. Who could ask for anything more?

EIGHT TO NINE HOURS had passed by.

A totally unhinged Lt. Tragg was once again in our old building and outside of our locked old suite..

We hadn't been in here for a year. When would he get it through his bone head that we no longer resided in that office space??? Probably not until someone else moved in.

After about an hour, he stomped his foot and marched off.

He hadn't been watching the news...If he had of , he'd realize that at this very moment..we were downtown in Federal court with our client, Alma Johnson.

We convened in Courtroom D. The Judge hadn't shown up yet!

"Hmm not like the Judge to be late." I said.

"I know... It's Thursday, a week before Thanksgiving....I would want to wrap this thing up before Thanksgiving." said Ms. Yvette.

"So Would Todd..Here he comes/" said Bee Bee.

"Yvette , guys..Judge Bedford won't be in today..He had a family emergency...He sends his sincere apologies..He'll be returning tomorrow. So listen...I have a solution to all of this.. Look, this is a big dog and Pony show. WE DON'T WANT ALMA JOHNSON......If she agrees to turn in states evidence against her brother...We'll drop all charges...and this will all go away..."said Todd.

"I don't know anything....I have nothing to tell you....I will not turn in any States Evidence and I will not betray my brother....I am not interested in any witness protection.."said our client.

Sofia looked exasperated...She sighed..

Kahlil whispered to me..

"I told you...I told you she wouldn't flip."

I nodded in agreement.

"Sorry Todd, we are duty bound to represent our client's wishes" explained Ms. Yvette.

"Okay...but I'm holding all the cards...I've got the hot hand." said Todd, walking away..

"Something I need to tell you Alma... The person who tipped off the DEA was your son!" said Jade.

"MY SON??" she said.

Jade showed her the zip drive...

"On this zip drive is a recording of the actual anonymous call that was made to the DEA about the drugs hidden under your porch.....Your son witnessed the entire thing...He called the feds...He used a burner phone...One of the phones your brother ,his uncle gave him....and he used a Voice scrambler app on the phone...Your boy is very tech savy, like most kids...We got a voice print of your son and then compared it with the voice on this call....Every human being has their own unique voice print...and a voice scrambler can't hide the print... Your son's voice print was compared to the voice on the scrambled call...It's him...." said Jade..

"Your brother has put you in jeopardy...He or one of his henchmen....planted those drugs on your property...You nearly lost your house and your car...You face 30 years in prison...They've got nothing on him....Nothing....I hope we can get you off...We are going to do our damndest to get you off...But you need to seriously think about your brother and what he does and how even wheh he doesn't mean to..It affects your life and your son's life. If you go to jail...Who is going to finish raising him? HIS UNCLE?? Think about it Alma." said Ms. Yvette. "I'll see you tomorrow in court." said Ms. Yvette.
