A Lifeline Of Hope

 Karen called our client to be at Stanga Correctional Facility for Men..

Al Thompson was shocked to be getting a call from Philadelphia... He had been locked up for more than a year....He kept claiming his innocence to anyone who would listen...He made good use of the prison's law library...filing a few briefs in his behalf that went nowhere...

Karen explained that she was the Director of the Wrongful Conviction/Conviction Integrity Unit of the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office and that a witness against him...one Thomas Harris recanted his testimony and signed a legal affadavit saying he was told to testify against you in return for a lighter sentence on what would be his third felony conviction.  Because of that, she and four attorneys working with her were going to work to get his conviction overturned and either get a new trial for him or his conviction overturned completely...

He thanked her for offering him a life line of hope.

The next two days, Natalie , Brooke, me and Sean worked hard up in Yvette's conference room..

we were aided by Sofia, Bee Bee, Keith ,Kahlil and Ms. Virginia...  

We were looking at the Crime Scene report, Witness statements, and evidence... as well as laws pertaining to the original trial, laws pertaining to simular and like cases and general laws.

"Thanks Sofia for helping us." said Natalie.

"Oh No problem...As many times as you guys have helped us."said Sofia.

"Yes, thank you Bee Bee for helping us."said Brooke.

"No sweat...We have a loving community in this building..We help and support each other." said Beatrice.

"This case was a pure miscarriage of justice... Rape Kit lost and no one ordered a second one and a witness was strong armed into perjuring himself ...This is crazy..."I said.

"I know....The shenanigans that are pulled to get a conviction sometimes." said Keith Jones.

"That snake, ADA , Lucas Fuentes, who tried to jam my wife up..   will twist and turn and swear he knew nothing about this." said Sean.

"Well you have enough here to get his conviction overturned, provided you get a sympathetic judge."said Kahlil.

"No..A Judge that follows the letter of the law." said Ms. Virginia.

Sofia, Bee Bee , Keith, Kahlil and Ms. Virginia helped us with the case we were going to present in front of an Appellate Court....They also gave us a list of Judges to try and get...

All under the watchful eyes of Yvette, Karen and Jade,.

"Your guys are on the right track....They've been working dilligently.." said Yvette.

"I know...Thank  you for allowing us to use your space Vettie."said Karen...

"You're always welcome Karen." said Yvette.

"I'm amazed that there we have two rapes...One in Philly and One in Bayside and yet no one ordered a rape kit.....Well ,one was ordered in Bayside...The Philly cops fumbled this one...The Rape kit was lost...The original attorney cried foul...but nobody listened... I'm amazed...This case can be made on DNA....When you go to visit him get his DNA....Fresh DNA  can clear him of at least one of those rape charges and if he's innocent of one, chances are he's innocent of both."said Jade.

"Both victims said later that they weren't 100 percent sure they had the right man...and that he was a lighter skinned Black male...but Lt. Clarke was certain they had the right man...He had been in an automobile accident with Thompson months before and the insurance company found him at fault..

He was salty about that.... That and the second Rollie Fingers telling Tommy Harris to perjure himself is enough." said Karen.

"Lt. Clarke...AGRHHHHH!  I despise that man....I like Lt. Tragg better and that's saying a lot." said Yvette.

''And Rollie Fingers ,I remember him from when I was an ADA....A Horny Snake..He wanted to get in my panties so bad.....Fortunately I had better judgement...I had to pry him off of me one time...He cornered me at one of those Christmas parties that I no longer attend. Won't have to worry about him anymore , neither will any other woman."said Karen.

''What did you mean by that?" asked Yvette.

"He's dead!  Died two years ago...He was with somebody's wife and the husband shot him to death...It was in the papers." said Karen..

"Talk about Justice." laughed Ms. Yvette.

The Next Afternoon-

We were at Olivia and Beverly's Office /Duplex's law library, right down the street from where we lived.. Doing the same thing we did with Yvette, Keith, Bee Bee, Sofia, Kahlil and Ms. Virginia.

"Thank you Josie for helping us. We owe a lot to everybody who has aided us the past few days." said Brooke.

''We want you to be successful Brookie...When you guys are successful, We all are successful. "said Josie.

"Nelson, I appreciate your help..Seems like you've been helping me out my entire career."I laughed.

"I remember you when I used to come down to the Public Defender's Office to lecture, Always with the good questions...I said, he's going to be a good lawyer. I was right." laughed Nelson..

"Bresha I really appreciate your help...We appreciate everyone who has helped us..." said Sean.

"Awwwww , you're welcome. You'd do the same for us I know..." said Bresha.

All under the watchful eyes of Olivia, Karen and Donnie Ray..

"Your kids are so earnest...So dilligent..They don't really need our help..."said Olivia..

"Oh they did...I'll tell you like I told Yvette yesterday, you all gave us a lifelong of hope...Your help was invaluable...and you helped us get ready, a few days ahead.."said Karen.

"Good Luck... He was shot and killed by the husband of a woman he was fooling around with.."said Olivia.

"Typical Rollie...Shame we can't call him as a witness.."said Karen.

Alfreda walked in with a pitcher of Ice Tea and glasses for everyone.

"Take five everybody......" she said.

"This is right on time Alfreda." said Karen.

"Thank You Freda." said Olivia.

"Always on time Freda." said Donnie Ray, smiling..

We were home after finishing up our research on this case...

"WOWWWW...We've covered a lot in just two days...."said Natalie.

 "I know you guys will get that man's sentence overturned....You all worked so hard..Good Luck!" said Yvette.

"I know they worked very hard....I hope they are successful."said Virginia.

"They will be...Their track record proves it!" said Jetty. 

"I wish I was going." said Jazzy, waving and smiling..
 

"Not without me." said Dabnis, smiling and holding her around the waist..

"You just want to get outta town."laughed her husband, Ray.

"Normally, we'd be going with them."said Jessica.

"Yeah I know." said Chip.

We pulled off ..Heading to 30th Street Station.....Off to offer our client, a lifeline of hope.
