THE OFFICE OF ASSISTANT DISTRICT ATTORNEY JOSHUA HOFFMAN 

ADA Josh Hoffman put a glossy photo on the desk and showed it to Lieutenant Tragg.

"Do you know who this is?" he asked.

"No!  Should I asked Lt. Tragg.

" His name is Mikal Mogolovich- He is mixed up, allegedly in  Arms trafficking, racketeering, money laundering, contract murders … These are just a few of the criminal charges leveled against this guy...A Russian , who is a naturalized Russian citizen.  he has allegedly accused of  scamming millions of dollars from investors of a Canadian company he oversaw. Why he should be important to you, to us..is because Olivia Bennett-Alexander and her husband, Donnie Ray Alexander dropped a subpoena on him a few days ago... He has something to do with our case... I have to look at discovery to find out...Why weren't you on top of this? I told you to recanvass." said Josh Hoffman.

"I'll lean on Donnie Ray....This guy's name never came up in my investigation. I swear."said Lt. Tragg.

"You can't put toothpaste back in the tube once it's out.. You'll say nothing to Donnie Ray...I'll find out what is going on." said ADA Hoffman with a look of disgust on his face.   "I do not want to look like a fool. If I do...There will be hell to pay...I swear."he said, storming out of his office and leaving Lt. Tragg sitting there looking like a fool.

ADA Hoffman hadn't lost a case in years...and He wanted nothing better than to beat the celebrated "Auntie and Niecey"...Olivia and Beverly in court.

Lt. Tragg already knew he didn't like this guy...

TWO DAYS LATER-COURTHOUSE WAITING AREA!

"Coffees everyone!" said Nelson as he and his wife Beverly brought coffees to us from the coffee shoppe down the street that we all went to.

He had Beverly's lipstick smudges all over his face and his lapel.

He passed the coffees around.

Beverly also passed coffees out to the rest of us...

Olivia took a disinfectant wipe out and wiped the lipstick smudges off of Nelson's face....She smiled

"I suppose you and my niecey poo were in a long line and had to uh pass the time somehow right?" she said.

"That's right..." said Nelson with tongue in cheek.

"I love the way you love her." said Olivia with all sincerity.

Beverly said nothing...She simply pulled out her lipstick and applied it to her lips.

"You bought that from my store didn't you?" asked Bridget, smiling.

"I did." said Beverly smiling.

"You ready  Bridget?" I asked.

"Ready to get this over with and to get on with my life."said Bridget.

"This case is weak...and I'm 100 percent sure we can win this Bridget." said Josie.

"We've got receipts." said Bresha.

"I sure hope so." said Bridget.

ADA Josh Hoffman walked in...

"Good Morning folks..." he said , smiling and continued walking into the courtroom.

II-

COURTROOM E-

"ALL RISE FOR THE HONORABLE JUDGE TELMA BAILEY" said the Bailiff.

Judge Telma Bailey walked in...

"Damn it!  Her!!! She hates me." mumbled Josh Hoffman.

Lt. Tragg didn't say anything, but he didn't like Judge Bailey either.

 

"We are in luck..She's a good Judge." said Olivia.

 

''Well one thing has broke our way." I said.

"I like her....Plus she's a soror..."said Beverly...

"Hopefully...that will help us." whispered Nelson.

"I like her."said Josie.

"I do too!"said Bresha.

"Well that makes me feel a little better." said Bridget.

The man we had subpoenaed Mikal Mogolovich was there too and with his attorney.

an attractive Blonde Attorney named Gretchen Bondi who had made a career out of defending Russian Mobsters.

"Be Seated.....Good Morning...Good Morning.....I am Judge Telma Bailey..We are going to seat a jury today and trial will start tomorrow morning...I believe I know most of the attorneys involved...but would you introduce yourselves anyway to the court please?" she said.

"Assistant District Attorney Joshua Hoffman....I uh just practiced in your courtroom your honor." he said.

"Yes I recall." she said dryly.

"Olivia Bennett-Alexander, Lead Attorney for the defense your honor."said Olivia..

'"Beverly West-East, Attorney for the Defense your honor." said Beverly.

"Nelson East, Attorney for the Defense your honor."said Nelson.

"Josie Boyd, Attorney for the Defense your honor."said Josie.

"Bresha Billips, Attorney for the Defense." said Bresha.

I sat with Bridget...She smelled good and she was dressed to the nines..She was a very alluring woman.

Bridget sat in disbelief...disbelief that she was even here in this moment.

''Alright, we'll have Jury selection."said Judge Bailey.

Josh Hoffman knew as much about Trial Science as Nelson....He came equally prepared.

Nelson was as prepared as ever...

and he had Josie and Bresha on their laptops helping him with questions and information on each juror.

Still he just barely edged Josh Hoffman...

He won by 7-5....Very close......to a man who was very prepared.  The Jury foreman was one of Josh Hoffman's picks.

 

"Excellent!  We now have a jury....Trial will begin promptly tomorrow morning here at 9:00 am.

Attorneys and Jurors be on time and be ready for trial." said Judge Bailey as we all left the courtroom.

I stared at Mikal Mogolovich 

He smiled at me....

So did his attorney surprisingly as we all left the courthouse.

III-

COURTROOM E- THREE DAYS LATER

For three days ,ADA Josh Hoffman weaved a story about a business relationship that turned into a romance that went wrong when it was learned that the deceased was seeing other women.

He brought witnesses who backed up his story.

Nelson, Josie and Bresha dissected his witnesses statements apart like surgeons.. The statements they originally made and the statements they were making now and the fact that their testimony was based on gossip and hearsay.... 

ADA Josh Hoffman made several objections to their line of questioning, but they had receipts...like laws and laws from cases like this one to back them up..

Judge Bailey ruled in our favor...She loved the fact that we were so astute when it came to the law.

ADA Josh Hoffman believed that this Judge definitely didn't like him..

Olivia and Beverly opened up their defense by saying that there definitely was a romance between Bridget Jones and Tate Dennison but that it ended when she went to San-Francisco and discovered just who Tate Dennison was.

They brought witnesses in from San-Francisco, people who knew him well, 7 people whose businesses were liquidated by him in his corporate raide stage, 8 people who had been on boards , who had been replaced at his behest...They had no love for him and several women he had slept with and their husbands...They had no love for him and they told Bridget what he was trying to do...Get influence with her business  so he could launder money through it.

They brought in a Canadian Businessman who said Dennison scammed him out of millions of dollars and then vanished.

ADA Hoffman conceded that while Mr. Dennison was not a model citizen there was still the fact that he was murdered.

Nelson called several people from the Crime Scene Investigation team and Police who were on the scene who admitted that there was no proof that Ms. Jones was even in the car with Dennison.

No Fingerprints and No DNA.

Josie said that the only evidence of Ms. Jones at all was her purse...Which was taken without her knowledge as a keepsake,.

"Her DNA is not even on the panties and bra found in the purse..  They were brand new and unworn."said Josie.

Bresha called two area women who were having affairs with Tate Dennison who said they knew nothing about Bridget Jones.

Beverly called close associate Brenda Washington...

Brenda said that as soon as Bridget returned from San-Francisco she told Tate Dennison that she knew all about him and what he was trying to do.She ended their romantic and sexual relationship, fired all of his proxys from the board and rehired his former board members and cut off all relations with him.  She said he stole the purse as a "keepsake."

The other women he had been involved with said he liked to have a keepsake of their relationship after it was over... A Purse, panties, bras...something.

Olivia called Russian Gangster, Mikal Mogolovich.

He smiled..  He intended to be as unco-operative as possible.

When asked if he knew Tate Dennison...He denied it.

Nelson showed the jury large Glossy photos taken by Private Investigator Milt Lewis of Him and Tate Dennison at a coffee shop in Little Norway ,in Chinatown at Eddie Lee's Card Game and walking in center city...There was even a photo of the two of them in Bridget's Lingerie Store.

Beverly showed photos of Bank receipts , both deposits and transfers, Wire transfers of money from his account into Tate Dennison's dummy account in the Caymen Islands.

Olivia asked him how he made his money, since he didn't seem to work anywhere..

"Isn't it true you have been connected to the illegal sale of Arms..Money Laundering among other things and even Murder?" she asked.

He took the fifth on the advice of his Attorney...

Who kept looking at us and smiling.

"Okay, my client's fingerprints and DNA are not in the car....We have the police who have verified that...

But you know whose fingerprint and whose DNA IS IN THE CAR?   YOURS  Mr..Mogolovich."said Olivia...and she left that there.

He looked like he swallowed a canary....But he said nothing.

"My client was not in that car or anywhere near Mr. Dennison on that Sunday Morning..She was at her townshouse, sleeping....The Defense rests."said Olivia.

"Alright jurors, the case goes to you...Talk only amongst yourselves..."said Judge Bailey.

"TRAGG! YOU DID SLOPPY WORK....HOW COME YOU DIDN'T FIND HIS FINGERPRINTS OR DNA IN THE CAR? HOW COME HE WASN'T QUESTIONED TOO?  YOU MADE A HASTY ARREST...I'M AFRAID THIS YOUNG LADY MAY BE INNOCENT....OUUUUUUU CAPTAIN CANTRELL AND THE DEPUTY OF OPERATION ARE GOING TO HEAR FROM ME!"snarled 

ADA JOSH HOFFMAN ANGRILLY!

Lt. Tragg was as red as a beet.

Sgt. Brice had tried to tell him about the extra set of prints and sweaty DNA in the car belonging to someone else..but he just blew him off. he was convinced Bridget Jones had killed him during a lover's quarrel.

 EMILY'S SOUL FOOD RESTAURANT-

That night we all went to Emily's Soul Food Restaurant in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. 

"This is a pre-acquittal supper Bridget...So Nice you and Brenda could join us."said Olivia.

"I wish I had your confidence...but this is a great establishment...I've been here once before." said Bridget.

 

"You're going to be acquitted....I think even ole Josh Hoffman was convinced that you're innocent." I said.

"Nice seeing you again Brenda, glad you could join us." said Beverly.

"This place is nice...I'm surprised I didn't know it was here." said Brenda Washington.

"Well Now you know and you can drive out here or suggest a date bring you here."said Nelson.

"I know you have plenty of guys after you since your divorce...Tell em to bring you out here."said Josie.

"Yeah, it's inexpensive and has great food."said Paris.

"Not to mention live entertainment." said Bresha.

"Speaking of the food...I smell it...It's on it's way." said Tony.

"Yes, here it comes." said Alfreda.

"Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm." said Rockland.

There was a delicious Soul Food and Shrimp Display tonight.

 

Hot Fried Chicken platters arrived for some of us..

Along with plates of sweet cornbread and butter..

and fried fish platters for the rest of the group..

The Food was delicious. 

 "Ouuuuuuu this food is delish!" said Yvette.

"Almost as delicious as you." said Gary...

"Oh Hush Up!"laughed Yvette..

"Mannnnn I love this place." said Keith Jones.

"So Do I." said Bee Bee.

"Yesss, this food is delish."said Sofia.

"I love this place." said Kahlil.

"We do eat good don't we?" said Jade.

"Yes we do." agreed her husband, Danny.

"This chicken slides right off the bone and this cornbread...ouuuuuuuu!"said Virginia.

"I'm gonna be happy and full tonight."said Jetty.

''Me too Jetty." said Jazzy.
 

"Awwwww man...I jumped for joy when they said we were coming here tonight." said Dabnis.

"I hear they have a comedian appearing here next week."said Kayla.

"As long as it's not that lawyer...who Nelson used to date who doubles as a comedian..."said Ray..

"Oh Yes, she was horrible." said Jessica.

"Hey, I had nothing to do with that...She wasn't telling jokes when I knew her."said Nelson.

"Let's just say she forced him to seek a better class of woman." joked his wife, Beverly.

"Exactly!"laughed Chip.

"Good Luck tomorrow Bridget or whenever the Jury comes back with a verdict.."said Karen...

"Yeah and I want you on my show within a few weeks."said B.L.

"Thanks Karen...."said Bridget.

"Enjoy the night Bridget."said Natalie.

"This is your night tonight...The Trial is over for better or worse."said David.

"Yes, Enjoy yourself tonigh Bridget."said Brooke.

''And they aren't just saying that to get a discount at your store either."said Sean.

We all burst into loud laughter.

"Thanks guys."said Bridget who laughed for the first time.. "And thank you Olivia for inviting me here."she said and hugged her good friend.

"Oh you are sooo welcome girlfriend." said Olivia.

"WOW!  We have certainly been treated to two fine restaurants during this."said Zoey.

'We sure have."said Lem.

'Ever since we moved around here, We have had soo much fun, haven't we?" said Renee.

''We sure have.."said Tyrell.

"I feel the same way."said Lee, sitting in Matthew's Lap.

"Ummmmmmmmm yes." said Matthew, smiling from cheek to cheek.

"Oh here comes the band.."said Nina.

"Yes, I forgot this place has live entertainment."said Carlos.

To Top the night off...There was live entertainment...A Live Jazz band that performed while we ate.

It was a great night for us all, but especially for Bridget.

TENDER IS THE NIGHT-

That night at our home..Bridget bedded down in our sub-basement

Anxious about the jury's verdict, which we all hoped they came to tomorrow..

''We got this right?" said Bridget.

"Of course.."said Beverly.

"I read this jury...To a man we won this case." said Nelson, who was seldom wrong about a jury.

"I'm worried about the foreman...He was one of Hoffman's picks." said Josie.

"Yeah I know." said Bresha.

"HAS THE JURY COME TO A DECISION?" she asked.

"Yes we have your honor..."said the Jury Foreman.  He placed the envelope in the bailiff's hands.. He in turn gave it to Judge Bailey, who read it...Smirked a little bit and passed it to the Bailiff..

"Read it." she said.

 CASE 502, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania vs. Bridget Jones ,charges Murder one, Tate Dennison" said the Bailiff.  " We the jury find the defendent, NOT GUILTY in the murder of Tate Dennison.

"OH GODDDDD! THANK YOU OLIVIA,  DONNIE RAY, BEVERLY, NELSON, JOSIE AND BRESHA. THANK YOU ALL SOOO MUCH!" said a Tearful and Happy Bridget.

"I told you we'd get you off..I knew it from day one. This case was so weak that as a prosecutor I wouldn't have charged it!"said Olivia.

 

"He wouldn't have either if anyone else was on the defense but you two...He wanted to go up against you guys." I said.

"Well he did..and he lost."said Beverly, smiling.

"Big Time."laughed Nelson.

"WOWWWWWW! Tonight is the night we should be going out..."laughed Josie.

"Speak for yourself girlie...Me and my hubby are staying home tonight and cuddle."laughed Bresha.

Beverly and Olivia leaped into the air and high fived each other and yelled..

"WHOOOOOOOOOOOO WEEEEEEEEEEE!" as they always did after a victory.

"I HATE WHEN THEY DO THAT!" said Lt. Tragg...

"Don't worry about them....You'd better worry about yourself after the piss poor investigation you ran on this case scoffed an Angry ADA Hoffman who stormed out of the courthouse.

EPILOUGE-

Mikal Mogolovich,was eventually arrested and charged with the Murder of Tate Dennison...He accepted a plea deal and was sentenced to 20 years for Second Degree Murder.

ADA Josh Hoffman made good his threat... He pleaded to Captain Cantrell and The Deputy Of Operations about Lt. Tragg's faulty investigation...

That and the Lawsuit Bridget filed against the city for false arrest..

Dabnis represented her...

This left the Brass with no choice but to sentence Lt. Tragg back to the Marine Boat..INDEFINITELY!!!

One Night on the Marina....

As his boat was about to come in.

''Sorry your first few days will actually be at night Arthur...We won't be able to be together...Here is some Hot Soup for you." said Judge Kelly Anne.

She passed him a Thermos.

"Thanks Babe." said Lt. Tragg...

He had his flask of Jameson's Gin in his shirt pocket... He vowed to get revenge on Josh Hoffman if it was the last thing he did....

LADY CHATTERLIES LOVER-PANTIES AND BRAS FOR THE DISCRIMINATING WOMAN!

"It feels good being back in the store again huh?" said Olivia to Bridget...

"Girrrrl you just don't know.."laughed newly exonerated Bridget..

"We heard you're in the money girl." said Kayla.

"Yeah Dabnis won you a 2.5 million dollar settlement from the city for false arrest." said Beverly.

"The City hates to lose those kind of cases...Somebody had to pay...So guess who it was?  Lt. Tragg, who arrested you in the first place.. He's on the Marine Boat indefinitely.."said Olivia.

"AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!"laughed Bridget...

as the women enjoyed their afternoon in Bridget's  lingerie store.
