A WEEK LATER-COURTROOM WAITING AREA.

"Coffees everyone?" said Natika...She had rounded up coffees from the coffee shop down the street for everybody.

"Thank You Natika."said Karen.

"Thank You Ms. Sommers." said our client, Wallace Crockett.

"Thanks Natika." said Natalie.

"Thank You Natika." said Brooke.

"Thank You Natika." I said.

"Thank you Natika.." said Sean.

"Thank You Natika." said Lee, who was aiding us also.

Wallace Crockett had to pinch himself..When he originally went on trial, a year and a half ago...He couldn't afford one lawyer...He had an alcoholic overworked Public Defender....Now today..He had

seven lawyers...All Young and all good.. How fortunate was he? ,he thought to himself.

Bruce Greene walked in with the prosecutor...

Todd Baker...

with Lt. Tragg walking behind them....

Bruce stared at Natika angrilly....He was still stung by the disastrous date they had had at Gazspachos the week before.....

"Bruce, I appreciate your help...but I really don't need you second chairing me on this case...I've got it."said ADA Todd Baker..

"Trust me, I can help you in ways you don't know..."said Bruce Greene.

"And how is that? throwing a temper tantrum when you don't get your way or a Judge rules against you?" said Lt. Tragg, still angry about the mini fist fight he'd had with Bruce Greene in court a few weeks before at the conclusion of a trial.

"I'm going to ignore you because as usual, nothing you have to say is worthy of a reply from me."said Bruce.

We overheard some of their exchanges-

"Not A humble bone in his body.." said Natika.

"Not a one." said Natalie.

"Humble? That word and Bruce Greene are Oxymorons.."said Brooke.

"This is going to be an interesting trial."I mused..

''Aint it though?"said Sean, hugging Lee and laughing.

Lee laughed also.

II-

COURTROOM A-

Judge Elise Cummings was the Judge on this case...I had never tried a case in her courtroom, but both Olivia and Yvette had told us that she was a very good judge and the best to work under..A defense attorney's friend.

She certainly was attractive....

"Good Morning ,Good Morning Jurors..I am Judge Elise Cummings...I will be presding over this case.

Case 207-Commonwealth of Pennsylvania vs. Wallace Crockett.." she said.

"VA VA VA VOOOOOOOOOOOM! I wish the judge in my first case had been this foxy...I might not have minded getting convicted." he whispered to Sean and Me..

Sean and I laughed.....

"We will start with introductions." said Judge Cummings....

"Representing the Commonwealth Of Pennsylvania, Assistant District Attorney Todd Baker, your honor."said Todd.

''And acting as second chair you honor...I am, as you well known, Assistant District Attorney Bruce C. Greene, representing the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania." said Bruce Greene.

"Ohhhhhhhh boy, he's got a boner for the Judge.."sighed Natalie..

"You're joking, but you're probably right." said Brooke.

Lee heard us and she giggled.

"Natika Sommers, Special Lead Attorney for the Defense your honor." said Natika.

"Karen Page, co-lead attorney for the defense your honor." said Karen.

"Natalie Charles, Attorney for the Defense your honor." said Natalie.

"Brooke Marks, Attorney for the Defense your honor."said Brooke.

"David Charles, Attorney for the Defense your honor." I said.

"Sean Marks, Attorney for the Defense your honor." said Sean...

"Lee Phillips, Attorney for the defense your honor." said Lee.

"I remember you....I lectured at Middleton Law School two years ago.....You were one of my students....So you've graduated and passed the bar and are working as an Attorney now huh? Outstanding!"said Judge Cummings... "We will now have jury selection.

ADA Todd Baker appeared to know what he was doing....but when it came to picking a jury...He was an an amateur...He had been second chair or had had an experienced second chair who knew what he or she was doing in the past...

Today he had Bruce Greene doing jury selection. He was so angry and so distracted by Natika, that he didn't appear to look as if he knew what HE WAS DOING!

He was no match for Natalie and Brooke, who nearly pitched a shut out, getting 10 out of 12 jurors we wanted....An astounding victory for our side...

"OUTSTANDING!!! WE have a jury....Trial will begin promptly tomorrow at 10:00 am...Attorneys, Jurors be on time and be ready for trial, you are dismissed!....." said Judge Cummings.

"Bruce.....I appreciate your help...but I don't need your help...I've got this.."said ADA Todd Baker.

"Nonsense...You need my help...I know the particulars of this case...I know the traps these lawyers like to set..I'll be able to get out of them."said Bruce Greene...

That night at our house....

"With Bruce Greene connected to this...There is going to be mass confusion in this case...They didn't look like they knew what they were doing today..They aren't like you and Brooke..You two never get in each other's way.".I said.

"Brooke is the ying to my yang....We are sooo on point , we end each other's sentences... Unzip me."said Natalie.

I unzipped her dress and helped her out of it...I enjoyed looking at her figure and how a lot of her dresses just clung to her.. She knew it and smiled.

"Oh My God! You bought this bra and panty set Saturday at Bayside didn't you?" I said and smiled.

"This trial is going to be a circus." said Brooke.

"I heard Todd tell Bruce that he didn't need his help, but Bruce insisted on being part of the team."said Sean...

"It's Natika... He wants to use this trial to get back at her in some sick way." said Brooke.

"She really hurt him, by walking out on that date.."said Sean..

"She hurt him by not letting him get into her panties...That's what he wanted."said Brooke.

COURTROOM A- ONE WEEK LATER!

The trial was a circus, just as we expected!!

Judge Elise Cummings was exasperated with the Prosecution...

ADA Todd Baker was running this trial more like a tribute to his one time mentor...

The Late Carmen "Tough Cookie" Upton than a real prosecution.... He offered no new evidence and the same witnesses from the first case..

Karen, Brooke, Natalie, Myself and Lee eviscerated these witnesses on cross...Their statements and memories were markedly different from their original testimonies...Facts we brought out and hammered them on...

To make matters worse...Bruce Greene's theatrics didn't help... His vigorous objections were all shot down by Natika and Sean....

Natika's objections completely un nerved him and had him spinning around in a circle like a top, tossing his suit jacket in the air and jumping up and down like a four year old , throwing a temper tantrum...

Judge Cummings threatened him with contempt of court a record five times....She clearly didn't want to haul him into the cooler, but the look of frustration on her face showed she was near her wits end..

ADA Todd Baker really didn't want him involved in the case and looked at him as though he was nuts...

The Frustration on his face was quite obvious...

Even Lt. Tragg was looking at him as though he were a fool...

By the time ADA Baker made his closing arguments...He had completely lost the jury....

Natika and Karen gave brilliant opening arguments as to our client's innocence and how this entire prosecution was a rush to judgement..

Our now clean shaven client looked nothing like he did when arrested...

which helped with the jury's perception of him....

We described the fact that he and the murder victim, Willow Lathan, had a tempestuous relationship filled with arguments, a lot of drinking and marathon sex after these arguments to make up...

Lee and I called in three Dentists and oral Surgeons...We showed the jury photos of Mr. Crockett's perfect teeth and the bite marks he made in an apple...

We showed how they were not a match for the bite marks on the murder victim's body.....All three dental surgeons said that the person who bit the murder victim had three missing teeth...While our client had perfect teeth...

On Cross Examination Bruce Greene questioned the dentists schooling and qualifications...which was a waste of time..He got nowhere... It was as usual , Theatrical and it did not fool the jury one bit.

When Natika accused him of badgering the witness....

Bruce Greene snapped..."I AM NOT BADGERING THE WITNESS, ALL I WAS ASKING FOR WAS A LITTLE CLARIFICATION....A LITTLE UNDERSTANDING....THAT A MAN HAS NEEDS...NEEDS THAT NEED TO BE SATISFIED AT SOME POINT!" HE SAID."

"WHAT? WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? SIT DOWN MR. GREENE!" said the judge..

Karen, Natalie and Brooke were laughing so hard they were shaking....

ADA Baker put his head between his knees.....He couldn't believe how unhinged ADA Greene was...

He had heard that this guy was good, one of the best....Something was wrong here...

Deputy District Attorney Jonathan Burke was sitting in the visitors section observing the entire trial..He was really observing Natika...He couldn't get her out of his mind...

Sean and I called in Experts from the Goggins DNA Lab, The FBI Lab and our own Medical Examiner who disputed the original contention that the blood found on the floor of Wallace Crocket's garage was human blood or the blood of the victim.. It purely was not.. It was deer blood.. He hunted Deer on the weekend and skinned a deer in his garage...He attempted to clean it up , but didn't clean it up well..

Finally Natalie, Brooke and Lee brought in the three witnesses , two men and a woman who left the first bar with the murder victim and went to the second bar and were gone ,leaving the victim there with an unidentified man...They found the original bartender, who 's shift was over and wasn't around when the police arrived much later.. None of them saw Wallace Crockett in the bar until after the murder victim left with this other unidentified man....

In her closing statement...Natika Sommers told the jury that this case was indeed a rush to judgement.,bolstered by a lot of circumstantial evidence and sloppy investigation and that the wrong man was behind bars.. It was short and sweet and to the point.

ONE HOUR LATER-

"Has the jury come to a conclusion?"asked the Judge.

''We have Your honor" said the Jury Foreman.

The Bailiff passed her the verdict....She read it and sighed a little bit. She smiled and then passed it back..

"Read it." she said.

"IN THE MATTER OF COMMONWEALTH OF PENNSYLVANIA VS WALLACE CROCKETT ON THE CHARGE OF FIRST DEGREE MURDER, WE FIND THE DEFENDENT, NOT GUILTY!" said the Bailiff.

"THANK YOU SO MUCH!! THANK YOU! I HAVE MY LIFE BACK!" said a jubilant Wallace Crockett.

"You're quite welcome Wallace... Karen...I've decided I prefer getting people out of jail as opposed to putting people in jail...and for that reason...I've written my resignation and sent it to the attention of D.A. Garcetti and DDA Burke." said Natika.

"What will you do now?" asked Karen.

"Do you have any prospects?" asked Natalie.

"A Smart Girl like you always has prospects...I'm sure you had a prospect before you wrote your resignation didn't you?" said Brooke.

"How right you are!.... But before I make that announcement...Olivia has set up a meeting for me with a realtor....I believe you know her, Sepia Morris , your realtor... We may be neighbors...I'm trying to find remedies to my immediate problems. Like first finding a place live. My parents are about sick of me by now!"laughed Natika.

"That'll be great..." I laughed.

"Good Luck to you in all of your plans." said Sean.

"Yes good luck." said Lee..

ADA Todd Baker was livid.

"YOU!! YOU!! YOU IMBECILE, I TOLD YOU I DIDN'T WANT YOU WORKING ON THIS CASE....I TOLD YOU AND YOU MESSED IT UP! YOU AND YOUR THEATRICS...." he snarled at Bruce Greene..

Bruce Greene looked like the cat caught swallowing the canary....

Then he turned to Lt. Tragg...

"AND YOU, THIS WAS THE SLOPPIEST INVESTIGATION I HAVE EVER SEEN.....Missing witnesses...wrong DNA analysis, Wrong Bite mark analysis...Mistaking Deer Blood for human blood..

No recanvassing...What kind of detective are you ? How did Cookie get a conviction the first time? That really shows how good she was. These attorneys would have handed her her ass." he asked and walked away in total disbelief.

"Like they did you?" said Lt. Tragg in his defense.

Lt. Tragg stood there with a baleful stare. Looking clueless as usual.

In the Judges Chambers..

"I'm so glad you came today.." Natika said to DDA Burke.

"I had to see you in action....I got your letter of resignation this morning...Only Gil and I know so far...The rest of the staff will be informed tomorrow....I hate to see you go...but it's for the best...Now we can see each other in public and there won't be any problems." said Lester Burke.

He took her in his arms and they began to kiss passionately...

"AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW LAWWWWWWWD!" he moaned..

"OUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU" she cooed.

"UMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM! OUUUUUUUUU Girrrrrrrrrl!" he moaned.

EPILOUGE-

Willow Latham's murder has to this date not been solved.. No one knew the mysterious man she left the bar with and the Bar's TV camera only caught the back of him, not his face...

It is still an open investigation.

Natika Sommers met with Sepia and Bonita.

They got her a nice apartment about a mile from where we all lived, but in our section of the city..

It was beautiful and had stores on the first floor. A Grocery Store, A Beauty Parlor, A Barber Shop and

a Steak and Hoagie store.. It was perfect...

And it was a block from the train station...There was a chance we might see her sometimes.

We all surprised her with a Cake and sandwiches for a house or in this case Apartment warming party.... a few days later.

There was Cake and Deli meats and Cheeses for sandwiches and hard rolls, mustard and mayo..

as well as Tomatoes,Lettuce, onions,pickles and peppers.

"Oh My God!!! THANK YOUUUUUUUU! OH I LOVE YOU GUYS! THANK YOUUUU!" gushed Natika as we all unloaded everything.... "Thank you for putting me up." she said to Olivia.

"You are welcome.. Well, you've got a place to live...You said you were going to tell us of your new job plans." said Olivia.

"That's right, you resigned from the District Attorney's Office right after the conclusion of the Crockett trial." said Donnie Ray.

"Oh I know Bruce Greene was upset."laughed Beverly...

"Has anybody checked on him?"joked Nelson.

"He's in enough hot water...I heard from my contact in the court system that D.A. Garcetti and DDA Burke were upset with his behavior in the court and recommended he take a paid leave of absence and get some therapy....":said Josie.

"You think he'll do it?" asked Paris.

"No! Only if they strongly recommend it." said Bresha.

"Oh as in order him to!." said Tony.

"That's exactly what she means." said Alfreda.

"So what are your plans Natika?" asked Rockland.

"I have Accepted a Position of Managing Director of the Public Defenders Office." said Natika.

"I start in two weeks, which gives me time to get this apartment set up." said Natika

Some of her things were still in boxes.

"That is wonderful Natika.. Beverly, Nelson ,Olivia and I all got our start there at the Public Defenders Office as Staff Attorneys." said Jazzy.

"It's good training for all trial attorneys....but you'll be a boss though...Managing Director."said Dabnis.

''Wow the first Black and first Female Managing Director...Love it!" said Kayla.

"Niceeee!" said Ray.

"My Husband and I were Staff Attorneys at the Public Defenders Office too at one time.."said Jessica.

"And Like Dabnis said it's good training for trial attorneys.." said her husband, Chip.

"Well congratulations are in order....You'll make a fine Managing Director Natika."said Karen...

"Congratulations Young Lady....new Apartment...New Job!! Onward and upward." said B.L.

"Our old stomping grounds...Me, My husband and Brooke all met and worked there for a couple of years..."said Natalie.

"Now we've got a reason to drop in and visit sometimes." I said.

"I'm so happy for you Natika...New Apartment....New Job!"said Brooke.

"Don't be a stranger..We expect to see you at Josie's, Aqua Bar, Stoleys and of course the No I.D. Bar when you can make it." said Sean...

"Wouldn't miss hanging out with you guys for nothing in the world." said Natika.

"Congratulations...I am sooo happy for you." said Zoey.

"Great Job.....Congratulations!" said Lem.

"Now that was a power move....I love it!~" said Renee.

"We are Happy for you."said Tyrell.

"Congratulations!" said Lee.

"Got any plans for your new job?" asked Matthew.

"I do....So many of the attorneys are overworked...I plan to hire more if I can... Attract younger, more aggressive attorneys to lighten the load a bit and institute a few more progressive changes."said Natika.

''Well before you change the world, how bout we enjoy some Champaigne?" said DDA Lester Burke

Who arrived with a bottle of Champaigne.

He took Natika in his arms and kissed her...

"Ouuuuuuuuuuuuu now I know why she had to quit the D.A.'s Office.. He was her supervisor." said Yvette.

"Yeah and that would definitely be a no no...Those two having a relationship and him being her supervisor.. Now it's cool..They can be out in the open."said Gary.

"What about her and Bruce Greene?" asked Keith Jones.

"He wasn't her supervisor....They were on the same level, so there was no problem there."explained Bee Bee.

"Except only a fool would get seriously involved with Bruce Greene and Natika is no fool."joked Sofia.

"Yeah Really."said Kahlil.

"Well, everything turned out alright."said Jade.

"Yes it did."said her husband, Danny Ho.

"She's about three train stations away from us, but I'm sure we'll run into her at sometime."said Virginia.

"You got everything you need here girlie...A Beauty Parlor, A Steak and Hoagie Shop and there is a Dry cleaners around the corner..."said Beverly...

"One day soon I'm going to have my Girls High girls over for a "Girls Day" You, your cousin Kayla, Jazzy, Natalie, Renee,Bee Bee, Sofia ,Bresha and Lee.. just us girls...

"Oh that would be nice.."said Kayla.

"We could stop downstairs and get a steak or a hoagie."said Jazzy.

"Sounds like a plan."said Natalie.

"Us Girls High Alumnae."laughed Renee...

"Imagine that!"said Bee Bee.

"That's a plan...Maybe one Saturday after Brunch..." said Sofia.

"Yeah."said Bresha.

"I'd love it." said Lee.

And that includes you non Girls High Girls too, I'm not leaving you out, Josie, Brooke, Jessica, you're my "GIRLS" too...I'm not leaving you out..."said Natika.

"Ouuuuuuuuuuu yes...I didn't even go to High School in Philly."laughed Josie.

"I went to Hallahan.."laughed Brooke...

"I went to Central...I guess that counts..."laughed Jessica.

NIGHTFALL !

Everybody had left and gone home, except Lester Burke.

Natika had enjoyed the food and fellowship with everybody....She truly treasured them and their friendship....She was happy with her new job, her nice apartment in this new area of the city and her relationship with Lester Burke...They could be out in the open now.. They didn't have to hide.

"Quite a day for you huh? A Surprise House Warming party.....Food, Drink, Good friends...."he said.

"Oh it was lovely and I truly love all of them....but the thing that makes me happiest is you being here...with me and out in the open...We don't have to hide anymore...You don't have to park your car down the street anymore.." she laughed.

"No, but I do like your indoor parking lot...just in case Bruce Greene followed me here and plans to slash my tires."joked Lester.

"That's not funny Lester, that's kind of creepy." said Natika.
