I am Donnie Ray Alexander..Investigator for Olivia Bennett-Alexander and Beverly West- Attorneys at Law...I'm also Olivia's husband of several years...

This was the rare period after Thanksgiving that there were no major cases on our dockets and we could relax for awhile..

Crime Scene Investigators and Police were snapping photos at a crime scene...

"The Victim took two shots to the back of the head...."said a crime scene investigator.

"Death was instantaneous..." said another crime scene investigator.

"Her name according to her drivers license is Carmelita Sosa...She's 42 and body temp and lividity suggests that this just happened a few minutes ago..."said Dr. Hazel Baylor...

"She lives miles from here, I wonder what she was doing around here?" asked Dr. Marcy Martin..

"Her phone has been washed....There is no phone call record on here." said Dr. Marcy Martin..

"That's okay...we have a way of getting her phone call records..." said two detectives..

a police car and an unmarked police cruiser drove up... Four uniform officers got out first

And then of course Lt. Arthur Tragg of Homicide got out...

"What do we have here Sargeant?" he asked..

"Adult female, Hispanic, shot two times in the head....40 years old... No one heard any shots... A Man was seen running from the scene....That's about it Lieutenant." said Sgt. Brice.

Lt. Tragg looked at the body...He pointed to shell casings, which the uniformed policemen picked up, bagged and tagged...

He had Lipstick smudges on his lapel and the side of his face... He had apparently been with Judge Kelly Ann Mercer earlier when he got this call..

Dr. Marcy Martin took a disinfectant wipe and wiped the lipstick off of his suit jacket and the side of his face...

"Thank you Marcy!" he said embarrassingly.....''Alright...get a team together Sgt. Brice and interview everybody within a 15 mile perimeter......Put a team on the street cams and that ATM Bank cam across the street.....Even if nobody saw anything...Those cameras did...Get on it..Somebody had to have heard something...  Whitey...Get me the book on this babe!" he said.

"Can we release the body?" asked Hazel.

"Yeah, there is nothing more to do here.....Get me the uh Autopsy reports as soon as you guys can." he said softly, which was certainly a less belligerent tone coming from him..

He watched as the body of the young woman was put into a body bag and strapped to the gurney and wheeled away to the morgue,,

Beverly and Nelson weren't home, probably still out dancing...

"We sure did, especially after a night of dancing at Stoleys and Aqua Bar." laughed Nelson slyly...

"Ummmmmm those pancakes look delicious."said Josie.

"So does the French Toast."said her husband,Paris.

"I love that they have Chicken and Waffles here." said Bresha.

"So do I." said her husband Tony....who had loved this neighborhood and the people in it since before he and Bresha were married and considered himself fortunate to be in the neighborhood.

"Ummmmm this is sooo much food."said Alfreda...

"Especially after Thanksgiving at Kayla's house and then our trip to New Orleans."said Rockland. 

We had entertained each other and members of our families at Kayla's house...on Thanksgiving.

Then we all had traveled to New Orleans and stayed at my sister and brother in laws Air BNB's shortly afterwords, Now we were here and contemplating..what we might do for Christmas.

 "Last night was so romantic husband.." said Yvette to Gary...

"Thank you and hopefully we'll have many more nights like last night..Just us....." he said.

Keith, Bee Bee, Sofia and Kahlil had joined the other young people at  Aqua Bar and Stoleys..

"Last Night was lit wasn't it?" said Keith Jones.

"Oh My God....I haven't danced so much in ages."laughed Bee Bee.

"We got our dance on in New Orleans."laughed Sofia.

"Yeah we did..."laughed  Kahlil...

"Ohhhhh did we?"laughed Jade as they made their plates.

"She and Danny had gone along too and had a very enjoyable night of dancing and drinking.

"We had a nice night too husband..at home, just the two of us."giggled Virginia,.

"Yesssssssssssss I'm looking forward to another night like that, heh heh heh."laughed Jetty devilishly.. 

"Last Night at both Aqua Bar and Stoleys was lit wasn't it?" said Jazzy...
 

"Lawd yeah, both bars were poppin..."said her husband,Dabnis...

"Between last night and New Orleans, I don't know when I've danced so much..."said Kayla.

"Save some of that energy for Christmas and New Years...You know Josie's throws big holiday bashes." said Ray...

"Yeah with guest bands, D.J.'s and a comedian tossed in..." said Jessica.

"Just Not THAT comedian" laughed her husband, Chip mentioning Nelson's ex- an Attorney who fancied herself as a comedian, who was terrible.

"Nooo Not Her... Funny you would mention her...We saw her and I guess a colleague last night at the Brewery."said Karen,..,

"She wasn't telling jokes was she?" asked Chip.

"Nooooo...Nooo, just drinking, like Karen and I were.."said B.L.,laughing.

"You two missed a good time at Aqua Bar and Stoleys." said Natalie.

"Yes it was lit.."said her husband, David.

"Oh My God...between there last night and New Orleans....I'm all danced out."said Brooke.

"That's Okay...After Breakfast...We can go home and get some rest.."said her husband, Sean.

"We had a nice Date Date at the Mermaid Crab Tavern..." said Zoey,smiling at her husband...

"Yeah it was pretty cool." said Lem.. They had had dinner and drinks there and then had retreated home just as Olivia and I had for some serious lovemaking.

"I'm like you Brookie, between last night at Aqua Bar and Stoleys and New Orleans...I'm beat."laughed Renee.

"Well like they said...Save up some energy for Christmas and New Years at Josies...You know they always do it up for the holidays." said her husband, Tyrell.

"It's nice not having any major cases for awhile eh Carlotta?" said Sissy.

"Knock on wood boss lady...as soon as you say that, one will come up."laughed Carlotta.

"Lt. Tragg caught one last night... a young girl shot to death up by the Locust Lofts..."said Tyriq.

"God ,wonder how he'll mess this one up."laughed Jimmy.

"Don't jinx him....It's near Christmas...He just may crack this case." said Sirena.

"He just may."laughed Hop....

"The law of averages..."laughed Duke.

"That's his headache...Not ours."said Angie.

"Amen to that.."said Sharon..

"I heard about that shooting...Nobody heard a thing and no witnesses as of yet.."said ADA Keith Wallace.

"Typical Saturday Night shooting."said Sissy's husband Eddie C. as he made himself a plate of food.

"I had to work that case... So sorry..such a young and pretty girl...Wonder who would want to shoot her like that?" said Hazel...

Just then Karla Williams and her husband, Tony walked in..

They were inseparable since their marriage...

"Oh look!  It's our new neighbors, the Newlyweds....How are you?" asked Olivia.

"We are just fine....Say Liv....I've got to talk to you about something, possibly a case....I'll stop by tomorrow okay?" said Karla.

"Sure, Sure...You know my door is always open to you."said Olivia..

IV-

Monday Morning.....We had all had breakfast and were chilling in the conference room when the doorbell rang!

"There is the door, I'll get it....You expecting anyone Liv?" asked Alfreda.

"Yes...Karla Williams said she wanted to talk to me about something....I told her to stop by." said Olivia.

"Hi Olivia, Donnie Ray, Beverly, guys..I have a client who is more up your alley since you guys do Criminal Defense work... Right now a very frightened individual named Hector Sosa is in my office right now... He is a Doctor....I met him when I was in law school at St. John's in New York and he was finishing up Med School...We became fast friends... He is from Venezuela...At the time he was here on a Student Visa... He finished his education and within two years he became a U.S. Citizen...

We ran into each other again...In Philadelphia...I was working at the U.S. Attorney's Office and he was at a major hospital..

He married a young woman named Carmelita...Carmelita Suarez, in the country illegally from Mexico...

They got married and I worked with her to get an Education Visa...She got an Associates Degree from Community College and I helped her get a work visa....

She wasn't faithful to him...She was a barmaid at Aqua Bar...Hector was desperately in love with her and was doing everything he could do to make their marriage work...I suggested  couples therapy...I don't know how many sessions they had... but Saturday Afternoon ,he overheard her on her phone..

taking a call from someone....Someone he suspected was a male....He followed her...

He followed her... Someone shot and killed her just as he was arriving...He turned and ran...He is certain he was seen......He is equally certain he's about to be arrested and charged with a murder he didn't commit....He's scared... I thought maybe you guys could help him." said Karla ,or assist me in helping him." she said. 

"I heard about the young girl that was shot to death Saturday Night....So that was her huh?" said Olivia.

 

"Yeah I heard about it too!" I said.

"I remember her....The Barmaid at Aqua Bar...Nelson you know her.."said Beverly...

"Yeah they were saying that they were a barmaid short on Saturday..." said Nelson..

"She was funny....I liked her." said Josie.

"Yeah I liked her too....Awww she's dead.." said Bresha.

"Yes...and her phone was washed.There is no record of any of her calls." said Karla.

"We can get that information...That's no problem....I would tell you to tell him to turn himself in...but he only feels like he could be arrested...He hasn't been approached by the police yet.So maybe he should just be cool and let things play out...If he's correct...We will be ready top spring into action." said Olivia.

 

"Get me her iphone number and I can find out who she called....I'm certain the police are already doing that..."I said.

"Tell him to go home...if he is arrested or approached by the police...Have him call you and you call us." said Beverly.

"Well here goes our end of the year case."said Nelson.

"Yupper......I'm ready...we had a nice break." said Josie.

"A lawyer's life." sighed Bresha, feeling blessed to be a working attorney...and feeling equally blessed to be working with these attorneys...Young Black attorneys close to her in age and her friends outside of the job as well. Often, work didn't feel like work.

"Thank you Olivia...I knew I could count on you..."said Karla.

But as they spoke, at the Women's Law Center...

Several armed Tactical Squad Policemen rushed into the building and snagged Hector Sosa...

Charging him with First Degree Murder...

Naturally Lt. Tragg was on hand for the arrest and the Press Conference right afterword..
