 NOON , the next day!

Nelson and I both had been out most of the morning, though not together..

"Bad News guys....The Cops arrested Karissa last night!!...Charged her with Three counts of First Degree Murder.." said Nelson..

"Well I figured they'd get her eventually!" said Olivia.

"We should get down to Central Booking as soon as possible." said Beverly...

I was arriving right behind Nelson... 

"I got the Autopsy Report and the Crime Scene Report..." I said and dropped the files on the conference room table..

"Mmmmm come here lover.."said Olivia,

who planted a wet sloppy kiss on my lips that nearly sent me in orbit..

Josie leafed through the Autopsy report and the Crime Scene Report......As did Beverly, Nelson and eventually Olivia.. I had already read and looked at both.

"Come on...bring them with you...We've got to go to Central Booking.."said Olivia.

In the "Fishbowl" The nickname the Detectives gave the interrogation room, Karissa sat silently...

She had been here for five hours...She refused a cigarette, she didn't smoke..She refused a soda , a candy bar and a hot dog...She simply sat..

Lt. Tragg questioned her.

"Look , make it easy on yourself.. This guy led you to believe that you were married to him...when in fact, his second divorce hadn't gone through...It wasn't official, he should have done it here..and if that wasn't bad enough, he had another girlfriend....and they were planning to go away to Miami for a "business" trip....but you and I know it was "Monkey Business", that had to make you mad didn't it? That would make anybody mad...That's why you killed him didn't you? Now where did you stash the gun...We had a warrant and we went all through your house.. Come on...If you uh confess, the ADA may go easy on you...say you went temporarily insane or something...Look I'll be straight with you...Any Public Defender you get is going to sell you down the river...make you plead out or something or louse the case up and you'll wind up on a table with a needle in your arm...This is serious..This is a triple murder...A capital case...Help yourself out here." he said.

"You told me I have the right to remain silent....I'm using that right...and for your information...I have counsel...I won't be needing a public defender..."said Karissa...

"Oh Is that right?" said Lt. Tragg..He clearly didn't believe her..

"THAT IS RIGHT!" said Olivia as we walked into the Fishbowl..

"Absolutely!!!...Good Girl...We were worried you might breakdown before we got here."said Beverly..

"Sit tight, we are going to get you arraigned as quickly as possible.."said Nelson..

"And just in case you're hungry....We bought a thermos of coffee..." said Josie.

and doughnuts

and Bagels too!"said Josie.

said Josie..

"OHHHH THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!! YOU GUYS ARE A GODSEND!" said Karissa.

"I DON'T BELIEVE IT!!! I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!!! YOU GUYS ARE AMBULANCE CHASERS...ANY CASE WITH ANY CONTROVERSY AND YOU GUYS ATTACH YOURSELF TO IT!!  KARISSA THEY ARE JUST USING YOU...USING YOU FOR PUBLICITY!"screamed Lt. Tragg..

"Considering their record as opposed to yours...I'll take my chances with them..and they can use me for publicity.."said Karissa.

Lt. Tragg was as red as a beet ..He stomped his foot angrilly and stormed out of the room and slammed the door..

"He's really got to do something about his temper..."said Beverly with a smile..

"Yeah...it took his old man and his uncle out of here..all that pent up rage."I said.

"We aren't going to discuss the particulars of your case...What we are going to do is get you arrained...in front of a judge within the next few hours..." said Olivia..

"My mom and dad and my aunt are sponsering a defense fund drive at the church to help pay your fee." said Karissa.

"Tell them not to bother...Somebody, we don't know who, wired a substantial amount of money into our company account that will more than compensate us for your defense.."said Nelson..

"And they sent a substantial amount of money to pay your bail up to a certain amount too.."said Josie.

"REALLY? Who?  I wasn't working...." said Karissa. " And none of my friends have that kind of money.."she added..

"We've uh not been able to determine where the money came from or who sent it..but we have somebody on it..Tracing it.."I said..

"You got a boyfriend with deep pockets Rissa?" asked Beverly jokingly..

"No...I was in love with my husband...There was no other man in my mind..Honest.."said Karissa.

"That's not important...The important thing is that we have been paid, so that's one less thing you have to worry about..Whoever your benefactor is ,,they wired the money sometime last night and left a text from a burner phone on my phone saying it was payment for your legal defense and that you were innocent.Now, we want you to sit tight..We are going to try and get you arraigned...Let's go guys."said Olivia.

Lt. Tragg watched as we all walked out of the interrogation room..

Two officers read Karissa her rights again and walked her to the elevator that would lead her to the holding cells above us..

He smirked..

"You're not going to win this time Liv...She's guilty as hell and even you know it..And none of your cute stunts will work on this one.." he added..

"You know..You say that all the time and time and time again.. We prove you wrong..Why don't you just give it up Lieutenant?"said Beverly...

"Don't rub it in baby." laughed Olivia..

Nelson smiled..

So did Josie..

I didn't say a word.. I had work to do..Although I believed she was innocent..Damn if I had any proof one way or the other.

AN HOUR LATER -

We were in court...

Judge Percy Reynolds, our favorite Judge was in session..

There was a new ADA, Jill Jenkins...

She certainly caught Lt. Tragg's eyes..

"VA VA VA VOOOOM! She's hot!" he said to one of the bailiffs..

Olivia ,Beverly and Nelson argued that our client had no prior police record , was an upstanding citizen..had been a school teacher and a high school principal at one time and was not a flight risk..

They brought in 29 people from her Mother and Father's church to vouch for her charactor and several former teachers and class mates, and students of hers..

She smiled..

"Oh they're very good."

"They made me want to be a lawyer."said Josie.

I smiled..but I knew that because of the seriousness of this crime...It was very doubtful that she'd be given bail..

ADA Jill Jenkins was very good...She argued vigouously that despite her seemingly good charactor..She is accused of slaughtering three people, regardless if done in the heat of anger or not...She should be considered a danger to the public.

This was the part when Judge Reynolds usually ignored the prosecutor and set bail at some ridiculously low price as $900.00 dollars and one of us would write a check for $90.00 dollars and skip out to Sam Mother's Diner with our client..

Today was different..

"Because of the very serious nature of this crime.. A triple Homicide..I can't in good conscience grant the defendent bail...Mrs. Butts is to be held without bail until the time of trial.." he said and banged his gavel.

I wasn't surprised at all..

"I knew our good luck would run out one day...."said Nelson..

"I just wish it hadn't been today." said Josie.

"Yeah, Me too!"sighed Beverly..

"Chin Up Karissa..We are going to get you out of this."said Olivia..

"I hope so...I have faith in you."said Karissa, who was crying as handcuffs were placed on her by baillfs and she was escorted back to the holding facility upstairs...

Lt. Tragg stood by the door..He laughed as we walked out..

"Not Your Day today huh Liv..?" he smirked,.

''Well you know what they say Lieutenant...Win some lose some."said Olivia with a smile.

Beverly was too upset to even respond to him...

I put my arm around her..

"It's alright Shortcake..We lost this battle..but we haven't lost the war." I said..

Nelson just hung his head

So did Josie as we exited the courthouse..

Back at home..

Our good friend , Bonnie Shay, An Insurance Investigator, who was also an Attorney, (She had been a Public Defender and an Assistant District Attorney in New York City, before returning to Philadelphia)

was sitting having coffee with our office manager..

"Heyyyy you guys are back...and judging from the looks on your faces..You didn't get her out did you?" asked Alfreda.

"No...She is being held without bail." said Olivia..

"A Triple Murder is just too serious a crime." sighed Beverly...

"Don't worry Honey Bun, that will just motivate to work harder on her case.." said a hopeful Nelson.

"Yeah..."said Josie..

"Any news on who sent that money Bonnie?" I asked.

"I can't say I haven't seen this kind of subterfuge before.. First off , you were right about the text message , It came from an untraceable burner phone...but I pinpointed the area to Center City..Somewhere downtown...I know, that could be from anywhere."

''Whoever wired this money to you used a secret messenging service which according to the screen, they route through 7 proxy servers , 7 firewalls to a central server with an encrypted code..." said Bonnie..

"I was able to pull the number and the ip address...It came from a bank account in the Cayman Islands and guess who the owner of the account is...Wait for it....CECIL BUTTS!!" said Bonnie.

"Cecil Butts? That's impossible..He's dead.."said Josie..

"Of course he is..but who else would have access to his accounts?  Tony Collins...This is from him."said Olivia.

"That's guilt talking."said Beverly.

'"Well who cares...The important thing is we were paid...Now let's try to earn that money.."said Olivia.

I have often said when Olivia is upset about something...I wind up having the best sex of my life.. Tonight was no different..
