VENTURES: Tailgate

A Warm Saturday Afternoon... We had all helped set up the tents the night before on the ground outside Renee and Tyrell's house.

It was tailgate time....Our first Community Tailgate.

Inside the fire proof tents we had set up our grills ...

There was Burgers and Hot Dogs...

Grilled Meats, Steaks, Sausages and what not...

Grilled Seafood

And a table full of Tacos.

Creamy Pasta Salad...

Pork and Beans

and Plenty of Beers and Sodas.

Inside Renee and Tyrell's basement area..

Alexa played music...Hours of Programmed music, Classic Hip Hop, Classic R& B and Smooth Jazz.

There were games, Chess for those who played...

Backgammon...

And games of Poker, Pinocle and Spades for those who played..

"Ouuuuu Gary this is sooo nice... I didn't miss not going to the NO ID Bar last night...Did you?" asked Ms. Yvette.

"No, not at all...Setting up these tents and the grilling equipment was enough for me." said her husband Gary.

"I was good and tired after we finished." I said.

"Yeah but it was worth it, getting the food together...and everything else." said Bee Bee.

"Yeah this is nice...And after it's over....We can all walk home.Tee Hee." said Sofia.

"Most of us anyway..."laughed Kahlil.

"Yeah most of us." said Jade.

"I think even our friends in the apartments walked up here." said Danny...

"Yeah all they had to bring was themselves..We supplied everything else...Food, Drink, Games, Music."said Virginia.

''Always a good time." said Jetty.

''Aunt Olivia, Auntee Vette, Thank you for inviting us.." said Daniel Bristol.

"Ohhhhhh Everybody is your Auntee." joked his girlfriend Alexa.

''We are glad you all could come."said Olivia.

"Yes Thanks for coming." said Ms. Yvette.

"This is so nice....The food is outside on the grills and we have this nice roomy comfortable basement to relax in and eat,play games, listen to music." said Toni Robinson.

"Yeah man, this is really nice." said Eric Sellers...

'We are gonna kick back and get some Spades Tournaments going." said Jazzy..

"Hmmmmmmm after I finish my plate." said Dabnis, who was chowing down on practically everything.

"I want to play some knuckle..." said Kayla.

"Yeah me too!" said her husband, Gary.

"This is so nice.." said Monique, her first time at Renee's house and her first time at one of our little soiree's.

"WOW....I could never imagine something like this." said Natika..

Both she and Monique were there without their significant others today, but didn't seem to mind...

Serendipity was here with her live in boyfriend, Kevin Collins.

"Hi everybody....Whoaaaa this is soooo nice...

"Yeah, wowww!" said Kevin.

"Wait until Thanksgiving...We have that at Kayla's house and then Christmas We have it here at Renee's house." said Jessica.

"This is probably our last big outdoor thing before it starts getting dark early and cold." said her husband, Chip.

Karen made her and her husband, B.L. plates of food and joined the others inside for some card games..She was one of the few white women we knew who played Spades.

B.L. just sat and ate and grooved to the music.

Natalie sat on her husband, David's lap while they both ate their food and listened to music...She laid her head into his shoulders.

David held her tightly, smiling...He was in Heaven....

Brooke sat on her husband, Sean's lap while they both ate their food and listened to music...She laid her head into his shoulders also.

Sean held her tightly....smiling.

"Renee you did an excellent job." said Zoey.

"Yes, this is wonderful." said Lem.

"Thank you...But I can't take complete credit...Olivia and Alfreda and Yvette and Karen really put this together."said Renee.

"You did your part...This came off really well." said her husband, Tyrell.

" This is really nice." said Lee, enjoying her food.

''Yes...I love this group." said Matthew.

This was Nina's first appearance at one of our large events...She was really enjoying the food and the music...

As was her husband, Carlos.

"This was a nice turnout." said Olivia.

"Yes....Everybody came out that we expected...and then some.." said Donnie Ray.

"This is so much fun." gushed Beverly...

"It is...Much like 'Game Day' " said Nelson.

"Yeah...this is even better...More people." said Josie, who was sitting on her husband's lap...

Paris was smiling and sipping a cold beer....

"Ouuuuuu this grilled Seafood is delish." said Bresha,.

"It is indeed.." said her husband, Tony, who was holding her in his lap.

" I'm loving this...This was a good idea." said Alfreda.

"Yes it was.." said her husband, Rockland.

Our client , Edward Holman showed up...We were kind of surprised...but he had heard us talking about the tailgate and had said he was coming..

He brought three bottles of wine....

Former Judge Landon Huges and his wife also arrived.

She looked very uncomfortable being around

Edward Holman.

Landon was glad to see him free..

"I told you I'd take care of you..." he said, smiling, patting him on the back..

"Those lawyers you sent me are solid." said Eddie Holman. "How are you doing Ericka?" he said.

"Just fine." she said cooly.

Yvette was taking all of this in.

Deputy District Attorney Lester Burke arrived with a bottle of Champaigne in time to rescue Natika from a conversation with Edward Holman, who was trying his best to get her to go home with him..

"Hey Babes." said Lester.

"Ouuu Hi Baby. It was nice talking to you, but my boyfriend is here." said a relieved Natika...who wasn't sure if Lester was coming or not.

"Oh Okay then." said Edward Holman.

"I worked a case with Yvette's client..He's fresh...He likes Black women..."said Jazzy.

''Well He and I have that in common."laughed Dabnis.

"Yeah I had the same experience with him... He was going through a divorce when I worked with him...

Tried to use that to get sympathy sex...It didn't work with me.."said Kayla.

"And I'm glad of that." said her husband, Ray, squeezing her butt.

"This is turning out to be the best event yet.... It's packed with other people besides our circle." said Jessica.

"That's what makes it so nice." said her husband, Chip..

"Yeah...the best thing about this...Is after it's over most of us can walk home." said her husband, Matthew.

"Amen to that...No driving and no riding home on a long bus ride...Although that I never minded." said Nina.

"Yeah I know." said her husband, Carlos.

"I'm sooo glad you came." said Monique, spying A. Rodger Cockrill in the crowd..

"You know I wasn't going to pass up free food and a chance to see you.." he said.

"As usual, everybody is enjoying themselves." said Donnie Ray.

"This is sooo much fun...I don't want this day to end." gushed Beverly..

"Good Food, Games, fellowship with our friends and neighbors and then some."said Nelson.

"Yes and then some." said Josie, who loved these gatherings as much as Olivia did.

"I'm having a great time."said her husband, Paris , who made himself another plate.

"One thing I can say...The way this crowd is eating and drinking...There won't be many if any leftovers." said Bresha.

"That's a good thing...Donnie Ray, Nelson,Paris and I and some of the other guys are going to wash and clean the grills and take down the tents on Monday afternoon after work." said Tony.

"Oh that's nice." said Alfreda..

"Something to keep all of us busy yet another day."laughed Rockland, who was glad to be included in all of the activities... It was nice to have friends, he mused.

"I'll come up and help out too with the clean up on Monday Night." said Daniel.

"Depending on what time I get home...I will too." said Alexa.

"Yes, so will I..Maybe we can have one more rooftop party before it gets cold."said Toni Robertson.

"Yeah that would be cool." said her boyfriend, Eric Sellers.

"Nice Shindig Yvette."said Edward Holman.

''Edward, this is my husband, Gary Lockwood.He's an investigator for the District Attorney's Office. Gary ,this is our client, Attorney Edward Holman."said Yvette.

"Pleased to meet you." said Gary.

Beverly was having a simular conversation with her cousin ,Kayla.

"Love you too baby!" said Beverly laughing as she and Jazzy took her over to a chair to chill out..

"Love you too babes, always." said Jazzy as she and Beverly helped Kayla to a safe seat.

"I'm full, how bout you babes?" asked Jade.

"Yeah, no more food for me."laughed Danny Ho.

"There's not much food left."laughed Virginia.

"This was great Tailgate." laughed Jetty...

"I'm ready to go home Landon." said Ericka Hughes..

"Okay...it's almost 11:00 pm. " said Landon.

A Great Day for everybody involved.. Food , Music, Games and Fellowship...A Successful Tailgate.

" He was shot somewhere else...Even the Crime Scene report says that." said Bee Bee.

"And he had been dead for hours when the body was discovered." said Sofia

Next door....Kahlil and I were busy trying to decide on and pick the kind of juror we wanted.

"It's been three days on this...We've got to start making some decisions Home slice."said Kahlil.

"Ms. Yvette gave us until tomorrow to pick the jurors we want." I said.

It was nice we had had a nice Tailgate this past weekend...It prepared us for the work week ahead..

The four of us had been working on this case since Monday...It was Wednesday.

Out in the office, Yvette and Virginia were talking...

Jade walked in...

"Hello Ladies....Lt. Tragg has taken a page from our book...They have Hanky Peterson holed up somewhere where I can't get to him to talk to him...They are probably prepping him..." said Jade.

"Damn and we still don't know who this mystery woman is."said Yvette.

''Well...he was at a Motel with a young lady, here to for unknown that day from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm....His Credit card statement shows that....and on that same date...He was at the Marriot with another woman that same afternoon from 10:00 pm until 8:00 am....with another woman...."said Jade.
