A Little Christmas Cheer

 SAM MOTHER'S DINER- A WEEK BEFORE CHRISTMAS-

Attorney Nelson East was in Sam Mother's Diner...  He had been in court this morning filing some briefs in an upcoming case... He was by himself.. His more famous counterparts, Olivia Bennett-Alexander, his wife, Beverly West-East, Donnie Ray Alexander,  Josie Boyd and Bresha Billips were all at home or doing other things.

Nelson had an order of Eggs, Bacon, Hash Browns, Coffee, Orange Juice and a side order of French Toast.

ADA Bruce Greene walked in...saw Nelson and invited himself to his table.

He had Fried Eggs, Sausage, Hash Browns and coffee..

"Nelson East....You went to St. Johns University in New York....as did I..."said Bruce.

"I did....I think I remember you vaguely...You were a little ahead of me."said Nelson.

"Two years to be exact....I was a Senior when you were a sophmore..  I graduated and went to Harvard for law school....I understand you attended St. John's Law School." said Bruce.

"I did!...I passed the New York Bar and the Pennsylvania Bar and moved back to Philly, 

where I got a job at the Public Defenders Office."said Nelson.

"I understand you met Olivia and your future wife, her niece, Beverly there.."said Bruce.

"Yes, Olivia was my supervisor and mentor..

..A year later...Her niece, Beverly and Jasmine Jenkins , now Mrs.Jasmine Coley ,arrived and they too were assigned to Olivia.

"Oh wow...the beginnings huh?" said Bruce.

Nelson chuckled..."Yeah." 

Millionaire/Entreprenauer Stephon Bristol walked in just then and saw the two men eating breakfast..

He walked over to their table.

"Nelson, Bruce....Glad to see you both here.. I'm having a party tomorrow at my new event space..." he said.

He pulled out an envelope with about 40 tickets in it.

"Nelson, give this to your lovely wife, and Olivia and all of your friends...It lets you in free and you get two free drinks. Bruce , here is two tickets for you...Bring a plus one buddy." said Stephon, who knew Bruce from around...They didn't live too far from each other.

"Thanks Stephon..."said Nelson.

Bruce was surprised...HE never got the impression that Stephon liked him....

"Thank you Stephon..." he said.

"Don't mention it...Just come through, for a little Christmas Cheer."said Stephon , who went to the counter and ordered his Breakfast to go..

A Pretty Bond Attorney named Paula Johnson walked in...Bruce hadn't seen her in a year...

"Paula!!, Paula Johnson,  How are you? Happy Holidays." said Bruce.

"Happy Holidays to you too Bruce..I'm surprised you're speaking to me...Last time we were together I did dump a Rum Cake on your head."said Paula.

Nelson snickered to him self at the thought of that.  Bruce really knew how to bring it out in people he thought.

"I'm willing to let bygones be bygones if you are....Look I have two tickets to Stephon Bristol's Christmas soiree tomorrow. Want to go?" he asked.

"Really? Are you inviting me as your plus one?" asked Paula.

"Yes!" said Bruce Greene.

''Well thank you...I see we get two free drinks...I won't have to pay the drink tab."Paula joked.

"Paula, I don't do that anymore.."said Bruce Greene.

'Well, I see there has been some growth....Very good...I'd be pleased to be your plus one." said Paula.

"Hi Nelson." she said.

"Hi Paula." said Nelson as he paid his bill.

"You know Nelson?" asked Bruce.

"We went to High School Together...West Catholic... and our paths have crossed in legal circles a time or two. I worked with him, his wife Beverly and her Auntie, Olivia on a case once. and I attended a legal seminar at Middleton with his wife, Beverly, her cousin Kayla and Jasmine Coley just a few months back." said Paula.

"Do you know a Renee Cantrell-Jones?" asked Paula.

''Yes I know her." said Bruce, thinking about Renee...He still hadn't gotten over Renee.

''She was at that same seminar with us. We were the only Black girls there so we naturally hung together." said Paula.

''Small World."mused Bruce.

"Yes, isn't it though?" said Paula.

The Next Night was incredible... Stephon Bristol always through incredible parties and this one was no different...

As expected, the place was packed..

and he hired five D.J.'s to spin the music.

Drinks were plentiful as expected...

And the food was a mixture of New Orleans Cuisine

and Mexican cuisine...

 

"Boyyyyyy Stephon as usual knows how to throw a party." said Olivia.

 

"I love the New Orleans Cuisine...Wowwwwww!" said Donnie Ray.

"Husband, this is a great event...So glad we don't have anything going on this week." said Beverly.

"I know....I'm glad he gave me enough tickets for all of our neighbors and friends to come to this."said Nelson.

"Ouuuuuuuu this food is delish and the drinks..."said Josie.

"Not to mention the music...That D.J. is jammin."said Paris.

"Stephon never does anything small..Always big...This is lit." said Bresha.

"Yes it is...Let's make ourselves a plate.."said her husband, Tony.

"Is that Bruce Greene with a plus one?" asked Alfreda.

"It is....Let's watch and see how he messes this up."laughed Rockland.

 Bruce and Paula were on the other side of the Bar...

"Enjoying yourself?" Bruce asked.

"YESSSSS!  Good Food, Good Music and good drinks!"said Paula.

Natika Sommers was there..She noticed Bruce and Paula.

"WOWWW! Bruce Greene is here and he has a plus one." said Natika, smiling.

"Yeah ,let's watch and see if or how he manages to mess this up." said Lester Burke.

Serendipity Harper and Kevin Collins ,newly engaged , were also there...Stephon had given them tickets too!

"This is nice...Good Food, Plentiful drinks and Good Music..."said Serendipity..

"There's your boy, Bruce Greene and he's got a plus one."said her fiance, Kevin..

"I'm happy for him....I hope he doesn't louse it up!" said Srendipity.

Toni Robinson and her new boyfriend, Nick Smith were also there.

"This is soooo nice ,I am soo glad we got invited to this."said Toni.

"Stephon knows a lot of people." said Nick.

 

 "Yes he does and he always throws great parties."said Yvette.

"Even Bruce Greene is here and with a date."laughed Gary.

"I know her...Her name is Paula Johnson, She's a Bond Attorney..."said Keith Jones.

"I've seen her around....I know of her."said Bee Bee.

"I hope she knows what she is getting herself into."said Sofia.

"He'll find a way to screw it up before the night is up..watch."said Kahlil.

"He can't make her pay the drink tab...Our first two drinks are free." laughed Jade.

"This is true......and the food is free..buffet style."laughed Danny Ho.

"You guys are terrible." laughed Virginia.

"Terrible, but accurate." laughed Jetty.

"He sure does...Good Food, Plenty of drinks and Five good D.J.'s." said Dabnis.

"YESSSSSSS! Look, there is Bruce Greene. ...and he's with Paula Johnson. Imagine that!" said Kayla.

"You know her?" asked her husband Ray.

"Yes, Jazzy and I worked with her a few years ago.and we were involved in a legal seminar with her at Middleton earlier this year. Bev and Renee were there too!" said Kayla.

"Yes I know her... Bruce will behave himself with her...She won't put up with his nonsense."said Jazzy.

"I know her too...She's been lonely for a couple of years...Funny what a woman will put up with just to have a man."said Jessica.

"Bruce seems to be on his best behavior tonight...He hasn't been slapped yet or had a drink poured on his head."said Chip.

"You're too funny Chip."laughed Karen.

"I think he's learned from his past failures."said B.L.

"Hope Springs Eternal." I know Paula....We worked a case together, earlier this year." said Natalie.

"Like Chip said..Bruce seems to be on his best behavior tonight...He hasn't been slapped yet or had a drink poured on his head."said David.

"This is true...They seem to be getting along quite well."said Brooke.

"I think we are going to have a very good uneventful night." said Sean.

"Yes..."said  Zoey...

"Everybody is having a good time tonight." said Lem.

"Bruce has a plus one.....Paula Johnson...I know her...Jazzy, Kayla, Beverly and I were with her in a seminar at Middleton School of Law earlier this year." said Renee.

"I remember when you girls attended that seminar."said her husband, Tyrell.

"Ouuuuuuuu this food is delish and the drinks..."said Lee Phillips.

"Yes... this is an incredible event."said Matthew.

''We all came here on the buses....I hope our friends, Natika, Lester, Serendipity, Kevin  and Toni and Nicky, who came here in cars don't get too toasted."said Nina.

"If they drive slow and follow our buses they'll be alright." said Carlos.

"Bruce I am having an incredible time...Thank you for inviting me.."said Paula..

"It was my pleasure."said Bruce.   He had changed ....He was no longer talking incessantly  about himself..He was actually listening to her when she talked...

Paula actually bought some drinks for Bruce......Bruce returned the favor by buying her drinks as well...

They enjoyed each other's conversation and company.

"Paula would I uh be too forward if I asked you to spend the night with me at my apartment?" asked Bruce.

"No you wouldn't be being too forward..." she whispered...

This was much better than a year ago...The disastorous date they had had..

He got up and made her another plate of hot Mexican And New Orleans food...  They both enjoyed their food immensely and the drinks..

He shocked everyone when he joined Paula and everyone else on the floor as they line danced.

After the party ended...Bruce drove Paula to his apartment complex .....

They were kissing in the elevator and in the hallway as he put his key in the door...She was surprised at how soft his lips were and even more surprised that she was enjoying his kiss.. Bruce was surprisingly gentle...

"Those Guys go everywhere together....and do everything together..."said Bruce.

"Yeah I know....Most of em live down the street from here, walking distance...and except for Olivia and her crew they all work in the Bridge Building I believe. I see them all in Curley's on Couples Night."mused Paula.  "I like them, they're all very nice.  I've worked with a few of them from time to time."said Paula.

"You live around here too don't you?" said Bruce.

"I do...a little farther up though....Not walking distance."said Paula.   "Uh...how would you like to spend the Holidays with me?  You know, pack an overnight bag and come stay with me. for a few days...?  I've got plenty of room." said Paula.

"GA GA GAZOOOOO!"said Bruce....

"I don't know what that means...but from the look on your face...I believe that's a yes."laughed Paula. 

"That's Bruce and Paula...Remember we saw them on Saturday?" said Olivia.

 

"Yeah I guess the date went well... He got a second date."said Donnie Ray.

"Amazing....How that guy gets girls to go out with him."laughed Beverly.

"You know...I had Breakfast with him the other day...The day I went to Court....He's not so bad when you talk to him one on one and he's not performing in court." said Nelson.

"You can have him....I'm good." said Josie,laughing.

"Well he seems to be behaving himself." said Paris.

"I wonder if she gave up those panties." mused Bresha.

"I'm certain she did..Which is why there is a second date...and from the looks of things..She's paying."said Tony.

"Very observant..."laughed Alfreda loudly...

A Chef was fixing Spanish Paella  with Shrimp, Scallops and other seafood.

"Yes it does." agreed Gary.

"There is uh Bruce Greene and Paula Johnson." said Keith Jones.

They left the Steak and Seafood Restaurant and headed to Paula's house which was a few blocks up and on the same block as Serendipity's house.

"You've got a beautiful place here Paula." said Bruce..
